London CNN —Mars has agreed to buy Kellanova in a deal that values the maker of Cheez-It and Pringles at almost $29 billion. The mega-deal will create a global snacks behemoth, adding a bevy of new nibbles to Mars’ portfolio of brands, which includes Snickers, M&M’s, and the Mars bar. “The Kellanova brands significantly expand our snacking platform, allowing us to even more effectively meet consumer needs and drive profitable business growth,” Andrew Clarke, global president of Mars Snacking, said in a statement. The Kellanova acquisition ranks in the top 10 global food and beverage mergers and acquisitions since 1995, according to Dealogic. The Kellanova deal is expected to close in the first half of next year, subject to shareholder and regulatory approval.

Family-owned candy giant Mars, whose brands include M&M's and Snickers, said on Wednesday it would buy Cheez-It and Pringles maker Kellanova in a nearly $36 billion deal, making it the biggest deal in the packaged food industry. Mars will pay $83.50 per share in an all-cash deal for Kellanova, representing about a 33% premium to Kellanova's close on Aug. 2, before Reuters first reported that Mars was exploring a deal for the Pringles maker. Kellanova, which split from WK Kellogg last October, is rooted in a salty snacks business and sells cereal outside of North America. WK Kellogg was left with the North American cereal business of Kellogg, the original parent company. Kellanova logged net sales of more than $13 billion in 2023.

It's called working a "hushed hybrid" schedule, and unlike other forms of sneakily evading a return to the office, you actually want — no, need — your boss to know about this one to make it work. Hushed hybrid refers to employees working from home more often than companywide policies would otherwise permit them to, thanks to the flexibility of their managers. AdvertisementWhile some workers could benefit from working "hushed hybrid," uneven enforcement of work policies could raise questions of favoritism. That could help eliminate the need for "hushed hybrid" working. Depending on how companies track attendance at the office, some managers may not be able to cover up for their employees' remote work.

CNN —Former President Donald Trump is meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Friday, the first such meeting between the two men since Trump left the White House more than three years ago. Trump, who often claims he was the most pro-Israel president in modern history, once touted his close, personal relationship with Netanyahu. Netanyahu called Trump the greatest friend Israel has ever had and heralded him for “unequivocally” standing by Israel during Trump’s tenure as commander in chief. In posting that engagement with Abbas, Trump was trying to “strike a balance” going into the meeting, Bahbah said, adding that he hopes Trump will come out of the Netanyahu meeting calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire. “At the table, the most important question is asking the prime minister what he needs to win.

In fact, they're often specifically designed to be irresistible, a scientist who used to work with UPF companies told Business Insider. But over time, Smith said companies became more interested in enhancing food to make it irresistible to the point where people feel they can't stop eating it. That's because sonic branding, or associating a sound with a product, can make us want to consume it, Smith said. How a chocolate bar sounds when it snaps can be engineered. So, similar to sound, companies use our sense of smell to grab our attention and make us crave their products.

A court in southern China on Friday found a prominent feminist journalist guilty of endangering national security and sentenced her to five years in prison, Beijing’s latest blow to civil society. A labor activist convicted of the same charge got a sentence of three years and six months. The activities that prompted the arrest and conviction of the two, Huang Xueqin and Wang Jianbing, involved organizing discussions, providing support to other activists and receiving overseas training. The legal action against Ms. Huang and Mr. Wang, which experts said was harsh even by China’s standards, signals the shrinking space for independent discussion of social issues. “We are seeing an almost zero-tolerance approach to even the mildest forms of civil society activism in China,” said Thomas Kellogg, the executive director of the Georgetown Center for Asian Law.

New York CNN —Years ago, Special K marketed to women by promising that they could lose weight by replacing two meals a day with bowls of cereal. The cereal brand has partnered with Molly Baz, a cookbook author who was recently the star of a buzzy ad for lactation cookies, on a limited edition cereal box. It’s the first cereal box featuring a pregnant woman, according to the brand. The box, which shows Baz with an exposed pregnant belly, is available for purchase on the Kellogg website. DuPont de Nemours to split into three companies

CNN —DuPont de Nemours, the American multinational chemical company that traces its history back to 1802, announced plans to split into three publicly traded companies on Wednesday. DuPont’s breakup comes amid other large, multi-national companies announcing breakups in recent years, with many CEOs and corporate boards touting the agility of smaller companies. In a statement, Breen echoed a similar refrain, saying the three smaller companies would have greater flexibility after the spin-off. This is the second DuPont breakup in half a decade. In 2019, DowDuPont, which was created in a DuPont merger with Dow Chemical, broke apart into three separate entities: DuPont, Dow Chemical and Corteva, the company’s agriculture business.

I love “Seinfeld.” As for the actual comedian Jerry Seinfeld, however it’s…complicated. In most of his activities outside his eponymous classic sitcom (1989-1998), Seinfeld bemuses more than amuses me. This ambivalence only obliquely affects my opinion of “Unfrosted,” Seinfeld’s recently-released feature-length Netflix comedy. Still, I’ve always had the disquieting sense of Seinfeld somehow always Getting Away With Something when he pulls off this suave, impeccably creased act. Seinfeld isn’t about unsettling his viewers and I’m in no way suggesting he should be.

Executives looking to boost their own profiles have for years paid freelancers to ghostwrite their LinkedIn posts. Now big PR firms are getting into the game, and LinkedIn profile management is going mainstream. Business Insider spoke to 14 PR firms that said more companies are asking for LinkedIn writing and strategy services for their leaders. Zappa said he does not offer specific rates for LinkedIn posts and instead includes LinkedIn in broader content contracts.
