The demand for Nvidia's AI chips could bolster job growth across the semiconductor industry. It could also help bring more semiconductor chip manufacturing stateside and reduce the US's reliance on Taiwan — which remains vulnerable to Chinese invasion that would wreak havoc on the global economy. AdvertisementEven without the AI boom, the semiconductor industry was already poised for big job gains in the near future. Of the 115,000 US new semiconductor jobs the Semiconductor Industry Association is projecting by 2030, it said roughly 67,000 of these positions risk going unfilled given current college degree completion rates. In an effort to prevent a worker shortage, community colleges and universities across the country have partnered with semiconductor companies.

OK, you will never confuse me for a rapper, but those are the four words that describe this economy right now. I have not been a fan of this company because of its losses and its inability to pivot to profit. You have to add the DoorDash numbers to the Toast numbers to see the strength of the go-out and go-in parts of the economy. I am just saying that the Federal Reserve does not have a handle on how overheated this economy has become. I fell in love with Singapore the first time I visited. Right after my contract with the Navy ended in 2017, I moved to San Francisco to work at Tesla, and then I took a job at my current company, KLA. I took the job knowing it was based in San Francisco, but I kept telling my boss that I would be interested in moving to Singapore if the opportunity arose. Singapore is so safe that it's difficult to explain to AmericansI lived in the Tenderloin in San Francisco. I'll happily return to America to visit but not to liveSingapore is one of the most expensive cities in the world, but when I lived in San Francisco, the rent was even more expensive.

HONG KONG (AP) — Asian markets opened the week on a positive note, with Chinese regulators announcing measures to support the country’s teetering stock markets while heavily indebted property developer China Evergrande was ordered to undergo liquidation. China's securities regulator announced on Sunday that beginning Monday, China will suspend the lending of specific shares for short selling, a move to support the country’s declining stock markets. The Federal Reserve’s meeting this week will likely end with no change to interest rates, but traders are split on whether it could begin cutting rates in March. It's trying to slow the economy and hurt investment prices enough through high interest rates to get inflation fully under control. Traders are betting the Fed will cut interest rates as many as six times this year, according to data from CME Group.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Chipmaking equipment supplier KLA (KLAC.O) on Wednesday forecast second-quarter revenue above Wall Street estimates, boosted by growing adoption of artificial intelligence tools that require sophisticated processors. This has driven demand for equipment to make and design chips benefiting KLA and its peers such as ASML (ASML.AS) and Applied Materials (AMAT.O). KLA expects fiscal second-quarter revenue of $2.45 billion, plus or minus $125 million. Analysts were expecting revenue of $2.41 billion, according to LSEG data. The company reported revenue of $2.4 billion for the first quarter ended Sept. 30, compared with estimates of $2.36 billion.

Reuters reported in June that the very AI chips barred by prior regulations could be purchased from vendors in China's Shenzhen. AI capabilities, aided by supercomputing and advanced chips, improve the speed and accuracy of military decision-making, planning and logistics, according to the regulations released Tuesday. "We don’t think incremental semiconductor equipment restrictions are likely to have significant long term effects" on equipment suppliers, Wolfe Research said in a client note.

The U.S. Department of Commerce announced Tuesday that it plans to prevent the sale of more advanced artificial intelligence chips to China in the coming weeks. Those earlier restrictions banned the sale of the Nvidia H100, which is the processor of choice for AI firms in the U.S. such as OpenAI. The new rules will ban those chips as well, senior administration officials said in a briefing with reporters. Other rules will likely hamper the sale and export to China of semiconductor manufacturing equipment from companies such as Applied Materials , Lam and KLA. Companies that want to export AI chips to China or other embargoed regions will have to notify the U.S. government.

Analysts at an Asian brokerage and investment group have picked four semiconductor stocks to play the "booming demand" for high-performance chips. "This old semiconductor migration locomotive still has steam in it yet, even amid the current industry downcycle, thanks to booming demand for high-performance chips," CLST analysts Jason Tsang and Cathy Hsu said in a research note dated Aug. 23. Semiconductors are used in products like tablets and smartphones, and the Covid-19 pandemic led to high demand for such goods, resulting in a shortage of some types of chips. Analysts expect it to take market share from fellow chip manufacturer KLA. "In addition to expanding shipment volumes, demand improvement, content growth, and value add should together drive a boom in the semiconductor equipment market," the analysts wrote.

Nvidia has captured the hearts of investors, but at least one market veteran refuses to show the artificial intelligence pioneer any love. "Nvidia is the stock market's new Tesla, where the market blindly assigns a ridiculously high and unrealistic valuation," Trainer wrote in an email to Insider on August 24. Trainer continued: "Investors should not be chasing Nvidia stock, as it is way too expensive. "While we recognize that artificial intelligence is an exciting technology and Nvidia is a great company, investors must pay attention to a company's valuation," Trainer wrote. To live up to its current valuation, Nvidia would have to increase revenue by 20% per year for the next 25 years, the investment research firm CEO wrote.
