New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been hit with five federal charges – including wire fraud, bribery and solicitation of a contribution by a foreign national – according to a sprawling 57-page federal indictment unsealed Thursday. Although the Bentley Suite for two nights would have cost approximately $7,000, Adams paid less than $600, the indictment says. And so, the building opened as requested by a Turkish official who had plied Adams with travel benefits and other gifts, the indictment says. In addition to the free travel and hotel rooms, Adams received illegal campaign contributions from foreign donors, including the Turkish government official, the indictment says. Adams has repeatedly said that his administration is cooperating in the investigations and he's focused on his work as mayor.

New York Mayor Eric Adams is expected to face federal charges by prosecutors out of the Southern District of New York as soon as Thursday, two sources familiar with the matter said Wednesday night. Before news of federal charges broke Wednesday, Adams was at a reception at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which President Joe Biden also attended. “I do not see how Mayor Adams can continue governing New York City,” Ocasio-Cortez said on X. "However, it is clear that defending himself against serious federal charges will require a significant amount of the time and attention needed to govern this great city. Sean “Diddy” Combs has been moved to a section of the New York City jail where convicted cryptocurrency fraudster Sam Bankman-Fried is being held, sources confirm to NBC News. The area of the detention center is reserved for detainees who require special protection, three sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. Combs, 54, was arrested last week and is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, a federal jail that has a notorious reputation for violence and poor care. Bankman-Fried, known as SBF, was convicted in November and was sentenced in March to 25 years in federal prison. CNN —Canada continued its surprising debut run at the Copa América, defeating Venezuela 4-3 in a penalty shootout to make the semifinals of the competition for the first time ever. As the teams stepped up to take their spot-kicks, the shootout ended 3-3 after five attempts each. “This is amazing to be in the semifinals of Copa América. Venezuela forward Salomón Rondón scored a wondergoal to equalize. Despite Canada’s best efforts to earn the winner in regulation – the Copa América features no extra-time with shootouts after 90 minutes until the final – the match ended with dreaded penalties and a deflated Venezuela.

CNN —Adria English, a former adult film actor who says she worked for Sean “Diddy” Combs between 2004 and 2009, accused the embattled music mogul of sex trafficking and sexual assault, according to a lawsuit filed Wednesday. The lawsuit marks the ninth against Combs since last November and the eighth directly accusing him of sexual assault. One of the eight lawsuits, filed by former girlfriend Cassie Ventura, has been settled. Another lawsuit accused his son Christian Combs of sexual assault, and Sean Combs is accused of aiding and abetting. Combs has vehemently denied claims from many of the civil suits but has not responded to all of the allegations.

CNN —Argentina began its defense of the Copa América title with a 2-0 victory against Canada at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on Thursday. Lionel Messi broke an appearance record which had stood for over 70 years by playing in his 35th Copa América match, and was at the heart of Argentina’s goals from Julián Álvarez and Lautaro Martínez. Canada, appearing in this expanded edition of the Copa América for the first time, was a heavy underdog against the 15-time champion but did squander several promising opportunities to get on the scoresheet.
