Former Vice President Mike Pence was, for most of their four years together, a loyal partner who helped smooth Trump’s dealings with establishment Republicans and evangelical conservatives. “It compresses things,” said Joel Goldstein, a vice presidential scholar and professor emeritus at Saint Louis University. At one point, polling showed him to be one of the least-liked vice presidential candidates over the last 30 years. And during his own presidency, Biden tasked Vice President Kamala Harris with the tough-to-define and tough-to-evaluate assignment of tackling the root causes of migration from Mexico and Central America. He also was the last sitting vice president to win the presidency.

Mortgage rates rose again last week, pulling demand from both the refinance and purchase markets. Total mortgage application volume dropped 10.8% compared to the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association's seasonally adjusted index. Applications for a mortgage to purchase a home decreased 5% for the week and were just 2% higher than the same week one year ago. Mortgage rates, however, are pricing some buyers out again, and concern over the economy and the election may have some sitting on the sidelines right now. Mortgage rates were essentially flat to start this week, and whatever the results, or nonresults of the election, will surely play into recent volatility.

Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid shoved a newspaper columnist during an altercation Saturday, according to multiple reports. The altercation happened in the 76ers’ locker room after the team’s 124-107 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday, according to multiple reporters who were in the locker room for a postgame media availability. Embiid reportedly shoved Marcus Hayes, a columnist for the Philadelphia Inquirer. In his column, Hayes mentioned Embiid’s son and late brother as reasons for why Embiid should start playing. Before the current season, Embiid said in an effort to help preserve his knees — which have both required surgery in the past — he would “probably never” play in back-to-back games again in his career.

NCRI identified 951 accounts that engaged in “coordinated inauthentic activity” associated with a pro-Harris campaign called #BlueCrew. According to Hurun's 2024 rich list, China lost 432 billionaires since the high of 1,185 in 2021. Republican presidential nominee and former U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a rally at Madison Square Garden, in New York, U.S., October 27, 2024. Andrew Kelly | ReutersRepublican presidential candidate Donald Trump headlined a rally at New York's Madison Square Garden on Sunday that began with a series of vulgar and racist remarks by allies of the former president. Danielle Alvarez, a senior adviser to the Trump campaign, told Reuters that the joke about Puerto Rico "does not reflect the views of President Trump or the campaign." Harris's campaign in an email said the Madison Square Garden rally was "mirroring the same dangerously divisive and demeaning message" as Trump. Trump's 2016 presidential opponent, Democrat Hillary Clinton, has accused him of "re-enacting" a pro-Nazi rally that was held at Madison Square Garden in 1939 on the eve of World War Two.

One comment on an Instagram video of the unveiling said that the statue better resembled Laurence Fishburne as ’Morpheus’ from the movie ‘The Matrix’ than Wade. Fans criticized the likeness of the statue although Wade himself didn't seem too bothered and was relishing the moment. Mortgage interest rates rose last week for the third straight week, hitting the highest level since August. Total mortgage application volume fell 17% last week compared with the previous week, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association's seasonally adjusted index. Refinance demand, which is most sensitive to weekly rate moves, fell the hardest, down 26% week-to-week. Applications for a mortgage to purchase a home fell 7% for the week but were 7% higher than the same week one year ago. The recent rise in mortgage rates may have slowed the resurgence in refinancing, but homebuyers may be less concerned about interest rates today and more concerned about the shape of the economy in the coming months.
