Daniels, the Commanders’ rookie sensation, threw for 269 yards with two touchdowns and no turnovers Sunday, continuing one of the most prolific starts to a career by a rookie quarterback in history. But in the present, it was Jackson, aided by running back Derrick Henry, who had enough to win one of the season’s most anticipated games, 30-23. Jackson threw for 323 yards with one touchdown and one interception, with nearly half his completions going to Zay Flowers (nine catches, 132 yards). Henry added 132 yards and two touchdowns rushing to help Baltimore improve to 4-2, with four consecutive victories. The Commanders’ defense has been one of the league’s worst, and allowing Baltimore 14 points in the second quarter and 10 more in the third pushed the Ravens’ lead to as high as 27-13 entering the fourth quarter.

In a battle of the quarterbacks, Chicago Bears signal-caller Caleb Williams reached new heights in his team’s 35-16 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. Williams also showed off his skills as a runner, like on this 24-yard scramble in the second quarter. After a slow start to the season, Williams’ game has steadily progressed. Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has outperformed Williams so far this season, but the gap has closed considerably the last few weeks. After Sunday’s game, Williams has now thrown for 1,317 yards with nine touchdowns and five interceptions.

Are we living through another Lamar Jackson MVP season? The Bears defense has also been phenomenal and will keep them in games even when Williams will inevitably struggle, as all rookies do. Full disclosure: One of my bold predictions entering the season was that Rattler would wind up taking Derek Carr’s job this season. The bigger concern is the Saints’ defense, which surrendered 600 yards and 50 points and allowed the Bucs to convert 6 of 10 third downs. It doesn’t matter who plays quarterback — the Saints defense has to put up some resistance.

Quarterbacks Jayden Daniels versus Lamar Jackson should be pure fireworks, but it's far from the only intriguing matchup this weekend. Henry has scored in all five games this season while rushing for a league-high 572 yards. Considering down and distance, Henry has rushed for 229 yards more than expected, according to advanced NFL stats. Kirk Cousins, meanwhile, is fifth in passing yards per game despite a slow start for Atlanta’s offense. The Lions are conceding 349.0 yards per game, 11th-worst in the NFL.

The New England Patriots will start rookie quarterback Drake Maye in their Week 6 matchup against the Houston Texans, per multiple reports. Maye was the third overall pick in April’s NFL Draft and will be making his first career start. Maye, 22, has appeared in only one game for New England so far this season. Nguyen: With Aaron Rodgers’ age and their defense, the Jets have a small window to make some noise. In theory, Adams would also add some much-needed explosiveness to a Jets offense that entered this week ranked 29th in the NFL in total yards and 27th in points. The Bills’ defense also suffered losses in free agency, and holes went unfilled even though Buffalo’s top competitors in the AFC include elite offenses in Kansas City, Baltimore and Cincinnati. Watson isn’t just not playing well, he’s playing like one of the worst quarterbacks in the league. Maybe improved offensive production would help ease pressure on the Browns’ defense.

Nobody needs to punt if the offense continually marches down the field. Way said he’s constantly thinking on the sideline about when he’s checking in, what the wind velocity is and what specifically to aim for. It was a decent punt that our guys went down and made a great tackle.

☆ Raiders’ Antonio Pierce offered recruits and parents perks like trips to strip club and gun range while at ASU, per the NCAA

Pierce, who served multiple roles, including associate head coach and recruiting coordinator, at ASU from 2017 to 2022, was sanctioned by the governing body for an alleged roughly year-long prohibited recruiting scheme. CNN has reached out to Pierce, the Raiders and ASU for comment. Pierce “consistently denied planning or arranging any portion of the visits, providing recruiting inducements, or participating in the out-of-state contacts and evaluations,” according to a NCAA press release. In the 67-page report, the NCAA provided what it described as multiple examples of the former Super Bowl Champion knowingly and repeatedly conducting forbidden recruiting violations. The NCAA has accused Antonio Pierce of recruiting violations while coaching at Arizona State University.

In honor of Jayden Daniels’ historic start to his NFL career, the Power Rankings are checking in on rookies this week. Last week: 4Sunday: Beat Green Bay Packers 31-29The Vikings are having the NFL’s most surprising season without much help from their rookie class. Veteran wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury against the Chargers. Second-round wide receiver Ladd McConkey had a career-high 67 yards Sunday and leads the team with 173 receiving yards. Fourth-round tight end Erick All has been a surprise with 12 catches, but third-round wide receiver Jermaine Burton has been a disappointment.

The Saints, one week after blowing out the lowly Carolina Panthers, did the same in Dallas to the high-flying Cowboys.
