They show that neither Harris nor Trump have broken out in the swing states. Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin will likely determine whether Vice President Kamala Harris or former President Donald Trump wins. The final set of New York Times/Siena College surveys of each state showed Harris narrowly leading among likely voters in Georgia, Nevada, North Carolina, and Wisconsin, while Harris and Trump are tied in Michigan and Pennsylvania. Biden in 2020 won Georgia by a razor-thin margin, while Trump narrowly won North Carolina that year. Harris is winning female voters by 16 points (57% to 41%), according to the final NBC News poll.

Trump spent Friday in Michigan and Wisconsin, Saturday in North Carolina, and today will be in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia. If Harris won Michigan and Wisconsin, she would still need to add Georgia or North Carolina to her column. Harris and Trump are campaigning in swing states as they make their final appeals to voters. AdvertisementWith Election Day on Tuesday, the end is in sight for what has been a contentious US presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump. It wasn't long before Harris began to narrow the gap between the Democrats and the GOP in the presidential race. Now, millions of women live in states with near-total abortion bans, while millions of other women live in states where abortion rights have been strengthened. In the closing days of the race, Harris has heavily emphasized the issue, which also helped Democrats in the 2022 midterms.

The Trump campaign and surrogates began filing lawsuits the very same day, challenging the results on a variety of grounds well before the final votes were counted. In Arizona, voters and the Trump campaign filed a lawsuit alleging thousands of people in Maricopa County had their ballots disqualified because of ink-bleed caused by Sharpies. In Wisconsin, Trump filed a lawsuit alleging widespread voter fraud and demanding a recount, which ultimately reaffirmed Joe Biden’s victory in the state. Dan Griffith of Huntington Bank expects ING trusts will surge in popularity with dealmaking on the rebound coinciding with a "silver tsunami." However, Wyoming and South Dakota are also options as they do not tax trust income or capital gains and protect trust assets from creditors. "This can apply even if they don't live in a state with a state income tax." Since beneficiaries do have to pay state income taxes — if applicable — when they receive distributions. ING trusts cannot be used to defer income taxes on salaries or income from tangible assets in the state.

Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve says city leaders should cut regulations that stymie construction. AdvertisementThe mayor of Reno, Nevada, argues that the single best thing city leaders can do to help solve one of the country's worst housing shortages is to loosen regulations on housing construction. As mayor, Schieve has celebrated the new jobs and the growth of arts and culture in Reno and its surroundings. Under Schieve, Reno has loosened some of its regulations by allowing for more density, reducing parking requirements, and cutting fees. Schieve, the former chairwoman of the US Conference of Mayors, said Reno's rules regarding affordable housing construction are relatively lenient.

In states where tensions have long boiled over reproductive rights, family planning experts say women face mounting barriers to getting birth control. In June, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have enshrined a national right to birth control into law. States have been left to decide if they will protect access to birth control. The Right Time initiative is part of Michelle Trupiano's work at Missouri Family Health Council that reduces costs and helps Missourians to obtain birth control. She works at a family planning clinic that is benefiting from Title X funding, which means right now, uninsured patients can get birth control through the clinic.

America PAC has been tasked with much of the pro-Trump canvassing operation as his campaign focuses its efforts on a more limited effort targeting so-called low-propensity voters. “I know it’s been flagged for America PAC that this has been transpiring,” an operative formerly on the effort said. As some of that data spilled into public view last month, an operative close to the effort said: “All hell has broken loose” inside the PAC. Through late October, America PAC had spent upward of $54 million on Blitz’s services, according to Federal Election Commission filings — more than the PAC has on the three other vendors combined. America PAC ended its relationships this summer with two other prominent GOP-aligned canvassing firms that were knocking on doors as part of its effort.

Both presidential campaigns have discussed ideas for cutting housing costs. Economists say lowering labor and building material costs is far more important to home building. Housing policy experts and economists disagree, saying lower energy costs would not significantly boost construction or make homes cheaper. Notably, under the Biden administration, the US has produced and exported more crude oil than ever before in the country's history, even as housing costs have soared. PHOENIX — Vice President Kamala Harris said Thursday that former President Donald Trump's remarks this week about protecting women whether they "like it or not" is another sign of how he "devalues" women. The Trump campaign did not immediately provide a comment on Harris' remarks. Trump on Wednesday said that his "people" had instructed him not to say that he wanted to "protect the women." In addressing Biden's comments, Harris pointed to Trump's rhetoric about "the enemy from within" and comparing the U.S. to a "garbage can." When asked by NBC News what Harris thinks her late mother would say to her in the final days before the election, Harris smiled.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The longtime music director at a northern Michigan church said he was fired just a few months before retirement after officials learned that he was in a same-sex marriage, a dismissal that has angered members and led to sidewalk protests by the choir. “He’s extremely talented, he’s perfect on the piano, he has perfect pitch and because of him, I look forward to going to church every week,” said Bob Holden, a chorister at St. Francis Church in Traverse City. The Catholic Church teaches that marriage is a lifelong union between a man and a woman. “We take employee privacy very seriously and are not able to disclose details about individual personnel matters,” the Diocese of Gaylord, which oversees St. Francis, said in a written statement. In a time where there is so much controversy in the world, the church needs to be a place of peace, and instead it’s turmoil after turmoil,” church member Toni Stanfield said.

Democrats have a big enthusiasm advantage over Republicans in the 2024 election, per Gallup. But polling in key swing states continues to show a tight race between Harris and Trump. AdvertisementWith just five days to go until Election Day, Democrats appear to have a significant advantage over Republicans when it comes to voter enthusiasm. Just before the 2012 election, Republicans boasted a 12-point enthusiasm advantage over Democrats, but Mitt Romney still lost to Obama. Voters across the country are set to decide on nearly 150 ballot measures next week that will shape the future of a wide variety of policy issues in their states. Early voting trends cannot predict the outcome of an election, but they can provide clues about who is voting – at least so far. Early voting in Georgia and North CarolinaWhile preelection turnout is generally down, Georgia is an outlier. Compared with the same point in 2020, early voting turnout is roughly the same – down just 1%, according to Catalist’s data. The state also now doesn’t accept mail ballots that arrive after Election Day, even if they are postmarked before the polls close. There’s also a clear partisan difference in how people are voting early in North Carolina.

For years, Republican activists have huddled in video meetings to talk about remaking democracy and plan for the election. They successfully lobbied for new state election laws and procedures, diving deep into the intricacies of election regulations. Earlier this year, Ms. Mitchell said she was called by God to shift her attention to the possibility that noncitizens were voting. They were involved in recent attempts to make it easier for State Election Board members to hold up certification while they conduct inquiries into the vote. Ms. Mitchell has talked about a federal elections overhaul should Republicans win the White House and Congress.

Democrats had warned the new rules around certification could allow local election officials to delay or altogether decline to certify the election results as they searched for purported fraud or irregularities. Key GOP state officials, including Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, had also opposed the new rules. Republican state officials have launched an emergency appeal in Virginia, while Trump has attempted to play up the ruling for political gain. A Republican lawsuit led to a settlement with Detroit election officials that affirmed that there would be at least one GOP poll watcher in each precinct. But in Wisconsin, a judge rejected a lawsuit there to force election officials to hire more GOP poll workers in Racine.

As President Joe Biden fought to remain in the presidential race this summer, advisers often argued there existed a “Biden coalition” — a cohort only the incumbent could hold together. A coalition of labor groups targeting union members in battleground states is pointing to Biden’s term in office. Coons noted the vice president has campaigned in Pennsylvania’s biggest cities, but also in places like Wilkes-Barre, Johnstown and Erie to reach the kinds of voters Biden has long considered his base. And for some voters whom Biden won in 2020, the message has shifted away from being about him. The union has held rallies and other organizing events there and in Michigan, Wisconsin and Nevada targeting its own and other union members.
