When women knew AI, not humans, would review their job applications, they were more likely to apply. A researcher told BI that AI could be a useful tool but humans should always decide on hiring. It's possible that AI, working as a gatekeeper, will do a better job than humans at reducing bias in how we get jobs . Helping tech bros be less bro-eyWomen seeking tech jobs seem to be on board with AI as a surrogate recruiter, according to Leibbrandt's research. Simeon Hyman, ProShares' global investment strategist who manages the largest bitcoin futures ETF, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) that launched in October 2021, noted that bitcoin futures ETFs have tracked bitcoin "fairly well." Some are concerned that the creation and redemption process that was agreed upon to create spot bitcoin ETFs could result in a bitcoin ETF trading at a premium to its NAV.

The milestone marks the first time Nuuly has earned money since its launch in 2019, a goal for the company from the beginning as it looked to prove it could run a clothing rental business profitably. While there is wide demand for clothing rental services, particularly among younger consumers, the logistics of rental have made it difficult to make money, threatening the platforms' viability. watch nowNuuly and Rent's services are similar in that they both offer clothing for rent on a monthly basis for all sorts of occasions. The clothing rental market is still a budding industry. As brands look to convince consumers to rent instead of buy, offering a wide-ranging assortment has proven critical.

"I think the long-term buyers of these products are financial professionals — financial advisors, family offices," and registered investment advisors, said Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan. The fund has slightly lagged the price of spot bitcoin since inception in 2021, when bitcoin was near an all-time high. A photo by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for an initiative called “No Place for Hate” has been altered to replace the word “hate” with “whites,” yet some online posts share the edited photo alongside calls to ban the nonprofit. ADL created the “No Place for Hate” initiative to provide schools and communities with a framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred. A post on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “Why does the ADL promote this overt anti-White hatred and bigotry? The photo shows four people holding balloons that read: “NO place for WHITES.”Another example on Facebook said, in part, “The ADL is an anti white hate group” and calls for a ban on the ADL (here). The signage on the balloons read: “NO place for HATE.”A cropped version of the photo can also be seen on a page dedicated to the initiative on the ADL website with the same “NO place for HATE” wording (www.noplaceforhate.org/why).

The nurse practitioner on duty that day was employed by Corizon Health, Inc., one of the nation's largest private prison healthcare providers. Under federal law, a bankruptcy judge may respond to evidence of self-dealing or perjury by appointing a trustee to take control of the bankrupt company, bankruptcy experts told Insider. Just six months before the Garcia family was scheduled to have their day in court, Corizon filed for bankruptcy. "The Corizon bankruptcy is presently in a court ordered mediation, and we are seeking a global resolution for all the parties involved." Having a good idea wasn't enough to win those colleagues over, she said — she needed to be likable. The lesson proved valuable when Hyman came up with the idea for Rent the Runway six years later in 2008, she said. The pair cold-emailed Diane von Furstenberg, and by luck, landed a meeting. As Hyman recounted, von Furstenberg worried that allowing her clothes to be rented for cheap would "cannibalize" her consumer base. Why tiny homes could be a big deal

It's easy to look at these tiny homes as undersized gimmicks, but there are real use cases. Others are leaning on tiny homes to house homeless veterans. Denver changed its zoning laws to make ADU construction easier, allowing two-story units in some parts of the city. Tiny homes won't fix that, but innovation in zoning and construction, taken with recent data pointing to a surge in residential construction, offer reasons for hope. Why tiny homes could be a big dealThis first appeared in the Insider Today newsletter.

Invasive hammerhead flatworms have distinctive curved heads, striped bodies ranging in color from light yellow to dark brown, and they can secrete tetrodotoxin — a neurotoxin found in puffer fish and blue-ringed octopuses. Five species of invasive hammerhead worms — four in the genus Bipalium and one in Diversibipalium — are established in North America, said Bruce Snyder, an associate professor of biology at Georgia College and State University. Today, most hammerhead worms (also known as broadhead planarians) are concentrated in the Southeast, where they favor warm, damp habitats. Bazzano Photography/Alamy Stock PhotoTo date, more than 3,000 sightings in southeastern states of just one invasive hammerhead species — Bipalium kewense — have been shared to the citizen scientist database iNaturalist. Rent the Runway co-founder and CEO Jennifer Hyman came up with the idea for her clothing rental company, fittingly, in a closet. Hyman recounted a story from Rent the Runway's early days, when she and Fleiss cold-called designer Diane von Furstenberg. It was an effective argument, and von Furstenberg was struck by the co-founders' openness and ability to engage in dialogue, said Hyman. Artist-Designed Party Hats, and How to Recreate Them
  + stars: | 2023-07-27 | by ( Coco Romack | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
In the United States, party hats — those ubiquitous, cone-shaped signifiers of children’s birthdays and summer picnics — have their roots in a less celebratory phenomenon: the pointed dunce caps used as disciplinary tools in schools throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. It’s a reminder that even the most unassuming objects can have complex meanings — something that artists, several of whom have turned to party attire for inspiration, have long known. The students of the Bauhaus, the influential German design academy founded in 1919, took their costume parties as seriously as their studies, dressing up as monstrous creatures and mechanical humanoids. And in 1972, the Spanish painter Salvador Dalí designed several fantastical ensembles for the infamous Surrealist Ball, a lavish gathering held at the French estate of the baroness Marie-Hélène de Rothschild. From there, imaginations ran free, yielding headdresses that resemble, among other things, a rainbow-colored palm tree, a coral reef and an otherworldly drinking helmet.

He said “cars like the Duesenberg have a cult following among those who simply must have the best of the best, but they tend to be viewed as more of a museum piece than a driver’s car.”“Vintage European cars deliver a more sophisticated driving experience and are therefore used more regularly by their owners,” said Mr. Hyman, who also noted that there were many opportunities for owners of 1930s Bentleys and Alfa Romeos to take part in organized tours and rallies that push the cars quite hard, but fewer such opportunities exist for high-end American classic cars. “Usability is a driver of value, and vintage European cars tend to be more sporting, they handle and brake more like modern cars, and people will pay more because of this,” he said. One exception is the Cord 810/812. “When they’re properly sorted out, they’re fast, and they handle very well, but the number of people who understand and support these cars is a fraction of what you see in the vintage Bentley world, and this in turn negatively affects usability and value,” Mr. Hyman said.
