Nvidia shares have surged 25% in the last month and are closing in on a record ahead of tech earnings season in the coming weeks, when top customers like Meta , Microsoft and Alphabet will update shareholders on their expected investments in artificial intelligence. In August, Nvidia reported second-quarter earnings that showed revenue rose 122% year-over-year while net income more than doubled to $16.6 billion. The company also gave stronger-than-expected guidance for the current quarter and said it expects to ship several billion dollars worth of its new Blackwell AI chip. Demand is so high that Nvidia expects shipments for its current-generation Hopper chip to increase over the next two quarters. Nvidia shares jumped 4% on Sept. 23, after a filing showed Huang finished selling the company's stock.

Slowing rate of change in earnings growth There are two important trends to follow in earnings. In the case of Nvidia, earnings are continuing to increase, but the rate of change is decelerating. This earnings report will likely be the final time in this stretch that Nvidia will see triple-digit earnings growth. But the impact has been shrinking – just as the overall Mag 7 impact has been diminishing with second quarter earnings growth broadening out. Based on recent supply chain checks, UBS analyst Timothy Arcuri said "demand momentum for Blackwell rack-scale systems remains exceedingly robust." Sell-side consensus estimates expect Nvidia to deliver earnings per share of $3.62 in 2025, which gives it a forward price-to-earnings multiple of 35x. Also boding well for more gains for Nvidia is the growing "wall of worry" surrounding the stock in recent weeks.
