Hong Kong CNN —Two tickets for passage on what could be the first Chinese rocket ship to take tourists to space were sold Thursday, according to a livestream held by the company, as the country’s commercial space firms aim to join a small but expanding global space tourism industry. Some 3 million people tuned in to the broadcast on Chinese shopping platform Taobao, which was the first time a Chinese firm has put tickets for space tourism up for public sale. Hong Kong CNN —Dinosaur fossils have been discovered for the first time in Hong Kong, on a remote island in the financial capital’s countryside. Hong Kong’s Secretary of Development Bernadette Linn said that “the discovery is of great significance and provides new evidence for research on palaeoecology in Hong Kong,” the statement read. The dinosaur fossils will also be on public display at Hong Kong’s Heritage Discovery Centre from Friday onwards. Hong Kong's Antiquities and Monu/APExperts in paleontology say the landmark discovery is a big deal for Hong Kong, a city with a complex geological history and ever-changing weather patterns. The only “dinosaur-era things” Hong Kong has found so far are plants and fish, he said.

But Hong Kong police say the men had fallen prey to a romance scam that used deepfake artificial intelligence to lure its victims into parting with more than $46 million. In a news conference Monday, police in the Asian financial hub announced the arrests of more than two dozen members of the alleged scam ring, which they say targeted men from Taiwan to Singapore and as far away as India. But increasingly realistic deepfake technology has raised the stakes and put authorities on high alert. According to Hong Kong police, the romance gang’s deepfake scam typically began with a text message, in which the sender – posing as an attractive woman – said they had mistakenly added the wrong number.

Hong Kong CNN —Beijing says it’s investigating fashion retailer PVH Corp, the owner of Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, for refusing to source cotton from the Xinjiang region, in a move that could lead to sanctions on an American company with major business interests in China. The ministry said in a statement that New York-based PVH (PVH) is suspected of “violating normal market transaction principles” by boycotting cotton sourced from China’s far western region of Xinjiang. Being banned by China would deal a big blow to PVH, which, like other global fashion firms, sources extensively in the country. Hong Kong CNN —China says it successfully fired an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific Ocean on Wednesday, a rare public test that comes amid growing tensions with the United States and its regional allies. An ICBM carrying a dummy warhead was launched at 8:44 a.m. Beijing time and fell into a designated area in the high seas of the Pacific Ocean, the Chinese Defense Ministry said in a statement. This is the first time China has publicly announced a successful ICBM test in the Pacific Ocean in more than four decades. In 1980, China celebrated the successful test of its first ICBM, fired into the South Pacific from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in the country’s northwestern desert. Hong Kong CNN —Hong Kong aviation investigators say an engine problem that caused Cathay Pacific to ground its entire fleet of Airbus A350 jets for inspection earlier this month could have escalated into “extensive damage.”Cathay canceled dozens of flights in early September, citing the need to inspect its A350 planes after the engine issue forced a Zurich-bound flight to return to Hong Kong shortly after takeoff on September 2. The airline had previously identified an engine component failure on the affected aircraft, though it stopped short of revealing what the problem was. The AAIA recommended the European Union Aviation Safety Agency to require Rolls-Royce, the engine maker behind the popular A350 long-haul jets, to “develop continuing airworthiness information” on the problem. Following the incident, Cathay conducted a thorough inspection of its 48-strong A350 fleet and replaced components on 15 of the planes. CNN has reached out to Cathay and Rolls-Royce for comment.
