Wall Street analysts on Monday issued a bearish call on Club holding Honeywell International , citing its lagging stock performance and sluggish growth prospects. We're hopeful management can get the company back on track by reshaping its massive portfolio of far-flung businesses. The analysts said investor concerns about subpar organic growth in Honeywell's massive portfolio have caused the stock to underperform its peers. Jim Cramer has acknowledged Honeywell's lackluster performance and urged CEO Vimal Kapur to reshape the company's portfolio. If history is any guide, Walgreens Boots Alliance may fare better after getting tossed from the Dow Jones Industrial Average . In fact, data shows that betting on a stock that's leaving the Dow is often a better trade for investors than buying shares of a stock that's entering the 127-year-old average. What history shows Alcoa was the best-performing stock among the last 10 outgoing Dow members. For example, Honeywell International surged more than 40% one year after joining the Dow, while UnitedHealth rallied nearly 28%. General Electric , the last of the original 12 Dow stocks, plunged about 58% one year after leaving the average in 2018.

Amazon shares moved up 1% in extended trading, and Walgreens stock moved 3% lower. "Reflecting the evolving nature of the American economy, this change will increase consumer retail exposure as well as other business areas in the DJIA," S&P Dow Jones Indices said in a statement. All three major averages posted gains for the third consecutive week, lifted by solid quarterly earnings and positive economic data. Earnings season ramps up next week, with five of the Super Six mega-cap stocks delivering results. Employment numbers are the most important economic data, with Friday's January nonfarm payrolls report carrying the most weight. The January ISM Manufacturing report on Thursday and December's factory orders report Friday are expected to show the sector still in contraction mode. But earnings and commentary this week from peer Sartorious made us encouraged about a return to growth in 2024.

Honeywell International is putting cash to work with a big acquisition in the security space. The all-cash deal is Honeywell's largest acquisition in eight years, and one that should bolster its struggling building technologies division . By acquiring Carrier's Global Access Solutions unit — which manufactures products like electronic locks, video monitoring apps and fire alarms — Honeywell is setting itself up to benefit from growing demand for safety and access solutions. "You will never see a roll back in safety and security," Jim said during an interview with Honeywell CEO Vimal Kapur on Friday. A host of new data centers, drug manufacturing plants and semiconductor fabrication plants will require digital access solutions and robust security options.

Today's market-leading stocks may not have the luxury to sit on their laurels, according to Goldman Sachs. Since Goldman Sachs began tracking the "Laggards" trade in 2022, the trend has held up 13 years out of 21, according to Mehta. The laggards have on average outperformed the S & P 500 by 130 basis points. The first, "differentiated buys," includes opportunities where Goldman Sachs analysts have out-of-consensus buy ratings. Finally, Goldman Sachs analysts also identified stocks with a "track record of CROCI [cash return on capital invested] generation," a metric that evaluates a company's cash return against its total equity.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. will fund nine projects with $169 million from last year's climate bill to speed manufacturing of heat pumps, systems that can heat and cool homes and businesses more efficiently, the Energy Department said on Friday. Heating and cooling homes and buildings, including critical infrastructure like military bases, drive more than 35% of U.S. energy consumption, according to her department. Compared to boilers fueled by natural gas, heat pumps reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 50%, it says. The funding will go to manufacturers including Armstrong International in Michigan, Honeywell International in Louisiana, and Ice Air, LLC in South Carolina. The Energy Department said it expects to unveil another round of DPA investments in early 2024.

HON YTD mountain Honeywell YTD Unfortunately, Honeywell hit a 52-week low in Thursday's terrible market. Moreover, guidance for the remainder of the year was mixed: Sales are expected to be better than we thought. Honeywell repurchased 5.3 million shares during the quarter, more than double the amount purchased in the second quarter. Additionally, for both the full year and the current quarter, earnings performance is being suppressed by pension liabilities. Qualitatively, continued volatility is expected but management believes they can deliver further growth, margin expansion, and cash growth "in line or above EPS growth."

Broadcom (AVGO), Caterpillar (CAT) and Eli Lilly (LLY) are among the 15 Club stocks with a streak of annual dividend growth that Wall Street expects to continue in their current fiscal years. Long-term investors should look to own companies with a history of dividend growth instead of chasing stocks with high yields, Morgan Stanley strategists said in a note to clients this week. However, Morgan Stanley's note made us curious to screen our portfolio for stocks with strong dividend growth track records that are expected to persist. To help us project which stocks will keep their dividend growth streaks alive, we also examined analyst estimates for total per-share payouts in their current fiscal year. Bottom line In any case, dividend growth over time is certainly welcome and can help increase total investment return, assuming the distributions are reinvested instead of taking cash.
