The NBA warned players to safeguard valuables against "well-organized, sophisticated" transnational crime rings, according to a memo obtained by NBC News on Friday, matching a similar caution issued earlier this week by the NFL. The FBI reported that, in most of the incidents, the homes were equipped with alarm systems that were not activated. The FBI also reported that the homes were all unoccupied and, in most cases, no dogs were present." Earlier this week, the NFL told players to be mindful about publicly sharing any information about their whereabouts, homes and luxury items they might own. "The homes of professional athletes across multiple sports leagues have become increasingly targeted for burglaries by organized and skilled groups," the NFL memo said.

Generic drugs are the backbone of medicines prescribed in the U.S.: They account for about 90% of all prescriptions filled, according to the Association for Accessible Medicines, a trade group that represents generic drugmakers. Karoline Leavitt, a spokesperson on Trump’s transition team, declined to say whether Trump planned to grant an exemption on generic drugs. According to the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, a group that tracks drug shortages, there are 277 active drug shortages in the U.S., half of which have persisted for two or more years. That’s different from generic drugs, which are cheaper and are often sold at close to the cost for which they were made, he said. What concerns Kesselheim the most is that tariffs could cause generic drug prices to skyrocket should more generic drug manufacturers drop out.

“Police officers must respect people’s civil and constitutional rights and treat people with dignity,” said Assistant Attorney General Kristen Clarke of the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division in a statement on the report. “After an extensive review, we found that police officers in Trenton routinely failed to respect the Fourth Amendment rights of those who call Trenton home. Also, the report noted, since 2021, accusations of officer misconduct has cost the city more than $7 million to resolve lawsuits. “When police stop someone in Trenton, our investigation found that all too often they violated the constitutional rights of those they stopped, sometimes with tragic consequences. “Even prior to the USDOJ review, the City and the [Trenton Police Department] had already begun to change policies and practices that prioritize community safety, accountability, and respect for civil liberties.

North Carolina lawyer Katie Jenifer is trying to prepare one year’s worth of estrogen for her transgender daughter. If the Trump administration still allows trans people to change the gender marker on their passport, Greenesmith said, it might require them to provide proof of gender-reassignment surgery, putting gender-marker changes out of reach for the majority of trans people. There is no existing policy that would allow the government to require people to turn in “X” passports, for example. The biggest surprise of “Gladiator II” is not that Denzel Washington is great. Instead, it’s how pivotal his character Macrinus is to the long-awaited sequel starring Paul Mescal as the heir of Russell Crowe’s iconic character Maximus. But it’s Washington’s Macrinus who moves “Gladiator II” forward. “His grand purpose,” Washington told NBC News, “is to take over the world.”Denzel Washington plays Macrinus, Pedro Pascal plays Gen. Skulls found on a New Mexico property earlier this month were obtained online and are not related to the case of a woman who went missing in 2019, the Lea County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. Human remains were found after a search of a property associated with the man in Jal, a city of around 2,000 in the southeastern part of the state, the sheriff's office said last week. The medical examiner determined the remains found on the property had "no medical or legal significance," the sheriff's office said. On Nov. 12, shortly after the discovery of the remains, the sheriff's office said it could be related to Angela McManes, who disappeared in 2019. Two days later, the sheriff's office said there did not appear to be a link between the skulls and McManes beyond the proximity of her home to the property where the skulls were found.

The first emperor penguin found in Australia has been released after spending 20 days in the care of a wildlife expert, the Australian government said Friday. The bird, nicknamed Gus by its caretaker, was released from a vessel off the southern coast of Western Australia on Wednesday morning, according to the state’s Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions. The team initially weighed the penguin at about 50 pounds, only around half the weight of a healthy male. “Good luck, Gus,” Biddulph shouted with a smile after the penguin dived into the water and swam away from the vessel. Don’t stop for anyone.”It remains unknown how the bird ended up arriving in Australia from its icy Antarctic home.

A woman who had accused the mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor of raping her in a hotel penthouse in 2018 was awarded nearly 250,000 euros, or about $260,000, in damages on Friday after a jury found him liable for sexual assault in a civil trial in Dublin. Mr. McGregor was previously the subject of a criminal investigation in Ireland, his home country, in connection with the allegations, but was not charged. After the verdict on Friday, the woman, Nikita Hand, spoke outside the courthouse, her hands shaking as she read from a page of remarks. She said she hoped the outcome would send a message to victims of sexual assault to “speak up.”“You have a voice,” she said. The allegations have dogged Mr. McGregor, a star fighter known as Notorious who has been credited with helping to popularize mixed martial arts and the Ultimate Fighting Championship, or U.F.C., and who remains a major figure among fans even though it has been three years since his last fight.

The "Shark Tank" investor pointed to first-time buyers getting older and losing out to cash buyers. High prices, steep mortgage rates, and fierce competition are locking young people out of becoming homeowners, Barbara Corcoran says. Plus, the median age of first-time buyers climbed from 35 to 38. Corcoran also dismissed concerns that the housing market is overheated and headed for a slump.

Germany, Europe’s largest economy, has not seen significant growth in the past two years. On Friday, the country’s economy recorded 0.1 percent growth from July to September, but it is forecast to contract over the entire year. And economists do not expect to see a return to growth in 2025, unless a new government can make significant changes quickly. Driving that point home, Germany’s largest auto supplier, Bosch, said on Friday that it planned to cut 5,500 jobs, beginning in 2027. High energy prices, a complex bureaucracy, an aging public infrastructure and geopolitical developments have hurt Germany’s export industry.

I have been watching “The Great British Bake Off” since it arrived on American shores about 10 years ago as “The Great British Baking Show.” The baking competition was such a staple of my mid-aughts TV routine that my older daughter used to call it “cake channel” when she was in preschool. Even so, in all my years watching “G.B.B.O.,” with all its memorable characters, no contestant had ever won my heart the way that Nelly Ghaffar has this season. Ghaffar is a joyful mother of two from Dorset, England, who works as a palliative care nurse, and she’s originally from Slovakia. Her English retains a charming accent, which reminded me of my Austrian oma’s. I am still thinking of her, though she was sent home on the episode that Netflix showed two weeks ago, because the show isn’t the same without her genuine warmth and good humor.

The interest rate outlook will come back into focus next week with key inflation data and Federal Reserve meeting minutes coming out ahead of Thanksgiving, as investors wrap up a major month for markets following President-elect Donald Trump's election victory. The October personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index set to release Wednesday could dent already-dimming hopes for a December rate cut if it comes in hotter than expected. The inflation rate is expected to have increased 0.2% month over month and 2.3% year on year. Rosy expectations Even with the interest rate cut expectations coming in, investors are optimistic on the direction for stocks to close out the year and into 2025. Goldman Sachs' David Kostin this week said he expects the S & P 500 can end next year at 6,500.
