I put my clear plastic goggles back on and reenter the smoky range to learn how to shoot a gun. That’s how I found myself at Gun for Hire, a gun range and club in New Jersey, to learn how to shoot. (“I want you to get the feel for both guns,” Kedem said.) Kedem had told me I’d get used to the noise, and I did. If I came to the range a few more times, I know I could get the hang of shooting — and even excel at it.

Israeli gun shops are seeing a surge in demand, according to the Financial Times. Long lines are keeping stores open late, with one doing business on the Jewish Sabbath. The country's right-wing national security minister loosened Israel's gun permit rules after Hamas' attacks. AdvertisementAdvertisementLast week, Israel's right-wing National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir loosened Israel's previously tight restrictions on gun permits, allowing thousands more Israelis to purchase firearms in the aftermath of the attacks. The changes automatically qualify residents of Sderot, Israel, the city that was attacked by Hamas, to buy a firearm, Ben-Gvir said.

Opinion: Uncomfortable reality for Biden

We’re looking back at the strongest, smartest opinion takes of the week from CNN and other outlets. He didn’t live to see the allies’ victory in World War II that year or the conference in San Francisco that month that established the United Nations. But his diplomatic efforts to meet with Arab leaders came undone after a devastating explosion at a hospital in Gaza. Biden himself initially supported the US 2003 war in Iraq only to end up as the president who ordered the US pullout of Afghanistan. “This is the politics that Donald Trump’s rhetoric has wrought among his supporters in the Republican Party,” wrote Avlon.

Prosecutors raise Trump’s recent attacks on MilleyIn the filing, prosecutors say Trump continues to make remarks that could hurt the integrity of his trial, including in how he has recently attacked Milley. The judge is set to consider the prosecutors’ request for a limited gag order at a hearing October 16. They are asking for Chutkan to limit Trump’s ability to speak about witnesses and others involved in the case against him. The prosecutors also said a limited gag order, as they propose, wouldn’t be a “contempt trap” as Trump’s team has said. Instead, it would be an even more limited speech restriction than others granted previously in high-profile, politically charged cases in DC’s federal court, the prosecutors argued.

Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston questioned whether a lower-court judge wrongly concluded that a U.S. law barred Mexico from suing Smith & Wesson Brands (SWBI.O), Sturm, Ruger & Co (RGR.N) and others. A new study on YouTube's recommendation algorithm found it pushed violent videos to children. Researchers from the Tech Transparency Project created four accounts for fictional nine and 14-year-olds. Accounts that watched recommended videos received hundreds more violent videos than the ones that didn't. For the following month, researchers tracked hundreds of videos recommended daily to the fictional children on YouTube's homepage. One of each pair of the accounts chose to watch at least 50 of the recommended videos, while the other accounts did not interact with the violent recommendations.
U.S. Voters Want Limited Government

They claim Republicans have used culture-war “wedge” issues to win over the public even though Democrats are more popular on the core pocketbook issues Americans really care about. Many so-called national conservatives have embraced this consensus and argued that the Republican Party needs to adopt a more interventionist economic model to win mainstream and working-class voters. One of Republicans’ most consistent electoral advantages in recent years has been the economy, which voters have ranked as their most-important issue. This success owes to the widespread belief among Americans that government is too large and taxes too high. Contrary to the reigning arguments both for and about big-government populism, the actual populist position in America is for limited government.
Mexico launches appeal in suit against U.S. gun makers

MEXICO CITY, March 15 (Reuters) - Mexico has filed an appeal in a civil lawsuit against U.S.-based gun manufacturers, it said on Wednesday, looking to crack down on the trafficking of weapons to powerful drug cartels. A U.S. judge in September dismissed the $10 billion lawsuit seeking to hold U.S. gun makers responsible for facilitating the trafficking of deadly weapons across the border. The issue of gun violence in Mexico has drawn new scrutiny on both sides of the border in recent days following the cartel-linked kidnapping of four Americans in the northern state of Tamaulipas, during which two of them and a Mexican bystander were killed. Mexico is not the only country in the region to be plagued by gun violence. Reporting by Sarah Morland; Editing by Robert BirselOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
REUTERS/Bing GuanNEW YORK, March 9 (Reuters) - A federal judge on Thursday blocked 10 companies from selling certain gun components in New York while the state pursues a lawsuit against them aimed at ending sales of illegal, untraceable "ghost guns." The preliminary order by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan adopts an agreement reached between New York Attorney General Letitia James and the companies last month, court records show. "Today's court order will help protect New York communities and save New Yorkers' lives," James said in a statement. The lawsuits claimed that the companies were creating a public nuisance by selling gun frames and receivers without serial numbers to consumers. Three defendants have settled with New York City, agreeing to stop selling guns there.
Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan martial ruler in 9/11 wars, dies

Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf has died in Dubai aged 79 after a long illness, the army said on February 5, 2023. By Sept. 12, then-U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell told Musharraf that Pakistan would either be "with us or against us." They regrouped and the offshoot Pakistani Taliban emerged, beginning a yearslong insurgency in the mountainous border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Though Pakistan under Musharraf launched these operations, the militants still thrived as billions of American dollars flowed into the nation. Born Aug. 11, 1943, in New Delhi, India, Musharraf was the middle son of a diplomat.

She said the company didn't protect her from a male colleague who she alleged sent her death threats. Instead, she was demoted after switching to part-time remote work and eventually fired, she said. She alleged that the reorganization decisions showed "discriminatory animus against non-Caucasian and female employees," according to her complaint.

What Guns Did to My Childhood

Isn’t a part of childhood feeling insecure and divining ways to resolve those feelings or else abide them? From Mitchell S. JacksonThe presence of gangs — mind you, a predictable symptom of poverty and neglect — led to the prevalence of guns that shaped much of the normal childhood maturing around me as a kid. It surprises me little to none that Black boys are the likeliest to die by guns. These guns alter their lives in significant ways, not in the least by nullifying the childhood grace of feeling the greatest distance from death. Amen, I’ve never had to sit him down for a stern talk on guns or the violence and grieving they reap.
