The billionaire Frank McCourt has put up his hand. Mr. McCourt said Wednesday he was working to put together a group of bidders to buy the social media app. His goal in doing so is to rethink how TikTok, and the internet overall, use data and consider privacy. “This seemed like a great opportunity to actually create the alternative to the current internet, which has been colonized by large platforms and including TikTok,” Mr. McCourt said in an interview. Frank McCourt, a real estate billionaire and the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers, said Wednesday he is laying the groundwork to acquire TikTok as part of a broad initiative to make a healthier internet. Still, McCourt said, the potential opportunity to acquire TikTok is a chance to rewire how social media works. “We can, and must, do more to safeguard the health and well-being of our children, families, democracy and society,” McCourt said in a statement. McCourt joins a host of other would-be suitors angling to pick up a platform used by 170 million Americans. Throughout the week, US officials had urged Israel not to retaliate for Iran’s unprecedented attack five days prior, when hundreds of missiles and drones were fired from inside Iran at Israel. US intelligence has long assessed that neither Iran nor Israel has any appetite for an outright war. Iranian officials have stated publicly that Iran’s policy toward Israel has changed. Then, on April 1, an Israeli strike on what Iran claims was an embassy in Syria killed seven officials, including two senior Iranian commanders. “Israel and Iran are going to be starting higher on the escalatory ladder for every future moment of conflict and that is incredibly dangerous,” said Panikoff.

For the last six years, Finland has been ranked the happiest country in the world. I've lived here most of my life, and as a psychologist and happiness researcher, I'm often asked: what exactly makes people in Finland so satisfied with their lives? However, research has shown that those most desperately seeking happiness tend to be less happy. 'Who has happiness should hide it'In Finland, we tend to believe that if you've found happiness, you shouldn't show it. 'The pessimist will never be disappointed'This is an old Finnish saying without any clear origin.

Malachy McCourt, who fled a melancholic childhood in Ireland for America, where he applied his blarney and brogue to become something of a professional Irishman as a thespian, a barkeep and a best-selling memoirist, died on Monday in Manhattan. His death, in a hospital, was confirmed by his wife, Diana McCourt. In 1952, when he was 20, the Brooklyn-born Mr. McCourt reunited with New York. Frank would also become a late-blooming author, whose books included the Pulitzer Prize-winning autobiographical work “Angela’s Ashes” (1996). The family, Malachy would write, was “not poor, but poverty-stricken.”

The 18-year-old impressed during his debut in a grand slam main draw. However, the effort it took to temporarily take the lead against the Serb looked to take its toll as Prizmic’s level began to drop as the match wore on. Djokovic, who had picked up a minor injury ahead of this year’s Australian Open, began to click into gear and recovered to win the third set. “He deserves every applause, every credit he got tonight,” Djokovic added.
