Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) for the second quarter of 2023 were $2.17 billion, versus $2.36 billion a year before. That was partially offset by higher revenues from increased volumes on its natural gas liquids, natural gas and crude oil businesses, it said. Enterprise sees natural gas liquids pricing and ethane pricing as constructive in the second half of 2023. During the quarter, the company saw operational records for natural gas pipeline volumes and natural gas liquids fractionation volumes. It brought online new projects including the 400 million cubic feet per day expansion of its Haynesville Extension of the Acadian natural gas pipeline system, and its Poseidon cryogenic natural gas processing plant in the Midland Basin.

All three major averages advanced for the week, powered by strong mega-cap earnings and favorable inflation data. Looking to next week, earnings season enters its second half with the last of our mega-caps — Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN) — set to report on Thursday. We'll get a better read on the employment picture on Wednesday with the ADP report and then, more importantly, on Friday's nonfarm payrolls report for July. Thursday after the close brings us to the main events of the week: Earnings from Apple and Amazon. For those looking to review first quarter performance ahead of these releases, be sure to keep our first-quarter earnings report card handy.

(Reuters) - Shares of gas pipeline operator ONEOK Inc fell about 9% on Monday on questions about potential synergies from its deal to acquire oil pipeline operator Magellan Midstream Partners. FILE PHOTO: A drilling rig operates in the Permian Basin oil and natural gas production area in Lea County, New Mexico, U.S., February 10, 2019. REUTERS/Nick Oxford/File PhotoONEOK on Sunday said it would pay $18.8 billion in cash and stock for Magellan to diversify its natural gas and gas-liquids transportation business into oil and oil products. “The deferral of Oneok’s corporate cash taxes seems like a major deal component,” Mizuho analysts wrote in a research note. “ONEOK and Magellan have geographical overlap among their assets, but their primary businesses are very different,” Morris said.

The biggest week of this earnings season showed us that things aren't as bad as many feared. The week ahead of earnings, including several more Club names, should tell us more. The results are always important, but it's the guidance and management commentary we will really hone in on to better understand the path ahead. In Amazon's case, a solid first quarter for its AWS cloud business was overshadowed by management seeing a material slowdown in April. ET: Nonfarm Payrolls Looking back It was the biggest week of this earnings season for the Club as several of our mega-cap holdings and industry bellwethers reported results.
Alphabet said Tuesday that Google's cloud business is profitable for the first time in the three years it's been reporting operating metrics for the division. The cloud business includes the Google Cloud Platform, which rents out cloud infrastructure and services that companies can use to build and run their own applications, as well as Google Workspace productivity software subscriptions. Amazon Web Services, the leader in cloud infrastructure, popularized the market in the mid-2000s and has been profitable every quarter since 2014. Alphabet started disclosing cloud revenue in 2020, and the following year began providing information on the scale of its operating losses. Last week Alphabet restated operating income for cloud and its other segments, resulting in lower cloud losses in 2021 and 2022.
Tax Day is upon us – but investors who have complicated tax returns may find themselves asking for an extension. April 18 is the filing deadline for your 2022 return, and on that day, you must pay any federal income taxes you owe. Last year, an estimated 19 million taxpayers asked for an extension to turn in their 2021 tax return, according to the IRS. That's because while the MLPs themselves aren't subject to federal income taxes, the limited partners who receive income distributions are responsible for taxes. You need this form in order to file your income tax return, but partnerships may not send these details until mid-March, which could lead to investors going on extension.
Energy was the second-best-performing sector of the S & P 500 last week, as investors flocked back into the stocks amid a recent dip in oil prices. Thummel also likes two energy infrastructure stocks — Cheniere Energy and Energy Transfer . He likes Viper Energy Partners , which owns a royalty portfolio of oilfield assets. "Viper Energy has one of the largest backlogs of tier-one locations in the [Permian] basin. Viper Energy is thus able to leverage improving energy prices while having "strong" downside support, according to Davolos.
Energy stocks dropped last week as oil prices fell to a 15-year low , with the banking crisis roiling markets. Amid the volatility, Goldman Sachs named the energy stocks it likes in a March 16 note. Exxon vs. Chevron For investors looking for a defensive play, Goldman analysts recommend Exxon as a top pick, adding that they prefer it over rival Chevron . Targa vs. Oneok Within midstream stocks, Goldman said it was "more positive" on U.S.-based companies Targa Resources and Cheniere Energy following the pullback. That's because lower oil prices would not hit Targa's operations as much as Oneok's, they added.
Microsoft is hosting a major event on Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET where it's expected to talk about OpenAI's ChatGPT and how Microsoft will use it in its products. While only six companies in the Dow Jones Industrial Average are reporting next week, about 20% of the S & P 500 reports, making it the biggest week of earnings this season. The Dow and the S & P 500 gained 2.2% and 2.9% this week, respectively, while the Nasdaq Composite rose 4.7%. For Microsoft, integrating the chatbot tool could make its core software products more powerful. All of the above suggestions were generated by asking ChatGPT various forms of the question, “How could Microsoft integrate ChatGPT into its products?” Microsoft, for is part, has said little on possible integrations beyond recently announcing plans to add ChatGPT features to its cloud computing service. “Microsoft will deploy OpenAI’s models across our consumer and enterprise products and introduce new categories of digital experiences built on OpenAI’s technology,” Microsoft said in a press release this week, announcing the expanded partnership. For Microsoft, that could make integrating the tool into specific products problematic. Integrating ChatGPT too quickly into Microsoft’s products could run the risk of schools rethinking their use of that software.

The Strategas Republican portfolio contains a number of energy companies including Cheniere, Centrus Energy , Enterprise Products and ConocoPhillips. The Republican portfolio contains Regeneron , up 7.5% since the end of September, and Bristol-Myers Squibb, up 10.8% in that same period. Clifton said the Republican portfolio bottomed out around Sept. 7, and in October it pulled ahead. "There's more confidence the Republican House gains are going to be quite large," he said. "If the consensus is wrong and the Democrats keep the Senate, the sector that will have the most upside is the clean energy sector," he said.
The major indexes all posted gains this week despite a Big Tech beatdown, proving the market can rally without its most valuable stocks. Indeed strength in other sectors — only communication services finished down — helped the overall market to shrug off disappointing earnings results from Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN) and Meta Platforms (META). Alphabet's results fell short of the Street's expectations, but still managed to grow revenue 6% annually off a $65 billion base. (Canada's central bank hiked rates less than expected this week, opting for a 50 basis point hike instead of the expected 75.) As a subscriber to the CNBC Investing Club with Jim Cramer, you will receive a trade alert before Jim makes a trade.
At the same time, odds for a Republican sweep on Nov. 8 have risen. Individual solar and other renewable names are also down sharply, like First Solar, which is in the Strategas Democratic portfolio. Clifton said his portfolios are pointing to a 60% chance of a Republican sweep, while betting markets are at 50/50. Among the holdings in the Republican portfolio are companies that would benefit from distribution and transportation of oil and gas, like Enterprise Products Partners. "The market is increasingly pricing in a Republican sweep.
And I think that's going to be the story of this market." In fact, his fund, the Donoghue Forlines Yield Enhanced Real Asset ETF (DFRA), is in the top 2% of its category this year, according to Morningstar. "As people get more confidence, they're not going back into what I call the 'ARKK type' stocks," Forlines said. While Linde provides investors with a dividend yield of 1.69%, BHP has a gargantuan dividend yield of 13.4%. Unlike some of its peers, it hasn't been hurt by the dollar's massive rally this year, and its dividend yield is over 4% right now.
Jefferies thinks investors need to look for income in this volatile market environment, noting that one of the best ways to do that is through high-quality dividend stocks. Jefferies data show that high-quality yield stocks have outperformed in downturn and slowdown phases. "Focusing on high-quality yield stocks has been highly rewarded over the long term," Peramunetilleke wrote in a note Thursday. The stock, up more than 16% so far this year, has a 12-month forward dividend yield north of 7%. Coca-Cola was also named a top dividend stock by Morgan Stanley, while CNBC's Jim Cramer said it was one of his 10 favorite " dividend aristocrats ."
