London AP —British writer Samantha Harvey won the Booker Prize for fiction on Tuesday with “Orbital,” a short, wonder-filled novel set aboard the International Space Station that ponders the beauty and fragility of Earth. The prize is open to English-language writers of any nationality and has a reputation for transforming writers’ careers. De Waal praised the “crystalline” writing and “capaciousness” of Harvey’s succinct novel — at 136 pages in its UK paperback edition, one of the shortest-ever Booker winners. Harvey is the first female Booker winner since 2019, though one of five women on this year’s shortlist, the largest number in the prize’s 55-year history. Founded in 1969, the Booker Prize is open to novels originally written in English published in the UK or Ireland.

Something wicked this way comes on the packaging of Mattel‘s “Wicked” dolls. There’s a website listed on the toy box, but instead of linking to the webpage for the movie adaptation of the Tony-winning musical, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, Mattel has mistakenly listed the URL to a pornographic website. “Hey @Mattel whoever is responsible for your marketing/packaging for the new official Wicked dolls have made a HUGE mistake,” one person wrote on X. “What a dream come true to be realized as Elphaba and Glinda in the form of Sweet Little dolls,” Erivo captioned the post. “Little Cynthia and little Ari are pleased.”Universal Pictures is owned by NBC Universal, the parent company of NBC News.

CNN —Toy manufacturer Mattel has apologized after mistakenly printing the web address of a pornographic site on the packaging of its newly launched “Wicked” dolls. “Mattel was made aware of a misprint on the packaging of the Mattel Wicked collection dolls, primarily sold in the US, which intended to direct consumers to the official WickedMovie.com landing page,” the company said in a statement sent to CNN on Sunday. People who have already purchased the dolls are advised to discard the packaging or obscure the link, Mattel added. The highly anticipated two-part “Wicked” movie starring singer Ariana Grande and Oscar-nominated actress Cynthia Erivo is an adaptation of the famed Broadway musical. The story is a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz” and tells an alternate version of events before Dorothy Gale’s arrival.
