CNN —Nearly a hundred aid trucks were looted in southern Gaza on Saturday in what UNRWA, the UN agency for Palestinian refugees, has described as “one of the worst” incidents of its kind. Of the 109 trucks carrying food supplies for UNRWA and the World Food Programme from the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza, 97 trucks were “lost” in the looting, UNRWA told CNN in a statement Monday. Drivers were forced to unload trucks at gun point, aid workers were injured, and vehicles were damaged extensively, it said. In a report Monday that cited Gaza’s interior ministry, the Hamas-run Al-Aqsa TV channel claimed Gaza security forces had killed more than 20 people involved in looting aid trucks, though it did not specifically mention Saturday’s incident. Israel insists however that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has risen and that it is “working tirelessly” to get aid into the enclave.

Trump has said he wants to lower gas prices — which currently average $3.07 per gallon — to below $2 a gallon. But the American oil industry is already booming and increasing output doesn’t mean gas prices will drop. After oil prices shot up in 2022 in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the sanctions on Russian oil imposed by western countries, major oil companies reported record profits. But are we going to increase oil production by another 50%? OPEC+, a group of leading oil-producing countries, even delayed plans to increase production because of concerns about excess supply.

.SPX 1M mountain S & P 500, 1 month The S & P is still about 3-4% above levels where chart readers would start to get more concerned about the underlying trajectory. Even in Friday's 1.3% slide in the S & P 500, only two-thirds of all stocks were down on the day and the equal-weight S & P was off a modest three-quarters of a percent. It makes sense that the market wasn't able to summon a sustained thrust of exuberance after the election anxiety evaporated, given the somewhat demanding starting point. A more mature economic and risk cycle and vulnerability to higher rates among smaller, lower-quality stocks mean they aren't likely to lead from here, Pies says. Part of the reason is due to a tax credit program that the Cybertruck has been largely left out of. Tesla is offering the Cybertruck for lease a year after the EV company made its first deliveries to customers. However, leasing an EV offers buyers another way to take advantage of the tax credit program without meeting every requirement. Through what's known as a "leasing loophole," dealerships can receive the tax credit and choose to pass those savings on to the buyer or lessee. But Tesla's Cybertruck has largely been left out of the federal incentive program.

Last week, Israeli soccer fans were attacked in the streets, Palestinian flags ripped off walls and antisemitic slurs yelled during riots. But the timeline of how tensions ignited in Amsterdam is different depending on which community you ask. “It’s really so, so manipulative… It only makes everything worse,” Jaïr Stranders, a local theater director and a board member of the Liberal Jewish Community of Amsterdam told CNN. But in Amsterdam, many local Jewish officials as well as the mayor have urged against using that description. “They are Dutch youth,” he noted, adding that Amsterdam is a city of many nationalities and many values that can peacefully coexist.

At the time, Hochul said congestion pricing at that rate would be a hardship on New Yorkers struggling to make ends meet in the post-pandemic economy. Now the race is on to get congestion pricing approved before President-elect Donald Trump, who opposes it, takes office in January. The revised congestion pricing plan is expected to go before the Metropolitan Transportation Authority board for approval next week. After the expected MTA approval, the state and city will then ink an agreement with transportation officials in the Biden administration, who have been supportive of congestion pricing. They also predicted that congestion pricing would generate $15 billion that could be used to modernize subways and buses.

Gold prices extended their decline to a near two-month low Thursday amid risk-on sentiment and as the dollar continues to strengthen following Donald Trump's election victory last week. He elaborated that gold prices are likely to trade lower as U.S. equities rally on prospects of lower tax and regulations. In spite of the slide in gold prices, market watchers are still optimistic on the fundamentals of the bullion. The underlying drivers of the gold market are still in place, Layton said. A mix of rising debt, geopolitical tensions and central bank demand are expected to support higher gold prices, said Canaccord Genuity.

New York is once again moving to adopt the nation’s first-of-its-kind congestion pricing program to ease traffic and raise money for mass transit. That means drivers may have to pay to enter the most congested parts of Manhattan as soon as early January. Kathy Hochul had revived the tolling plan, which she abruptly paused in June over concerns that it could slow New York City’s post-pandemic recovery. But now, five months later, Ms. Hochul has brought back the program with reduced tolls. Mr. Trump has vowed to kill the program in his first week in office.

CNN —Ford is being fined up to $165 million after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ruled the company moved too slowly in recalling cars with faulty rearview cameras. The agency’s consent order says Ford failed to issue a “timely recall” and did not submit quarterly reports on time. The models covered by the Ford recall included the 2020 Ford Edge, Escape, Expedition, Explorer, F-150, Mustang, Ranger and Transit, as well as the Lincoln Corsair and Nautilus. Of the $165 million civil penalty fined by NHTSA, Ford must immediately pay $65 million up front. Ford and the NHTSA will meet quarterly to ensure its compliance with the terms of the consent order.

"We are seeing [deflation] to some extent," said Stephen Brown, deputy chief North America economist at Capital Economics. Energy prices and electronicsGasoline prices are also "way down," Zandi said. Consumers "could get more relief there because global oil prices are soft," Zandi said. Food prices are also generally underpinned by their own unique supply-and-demand dynamics, economists said. Lower energy prices can also take pressure off food prices, as it costs less to transport and distribute food to grocery store shelves.

London CNN —King Charles III has marked his 76th birthday on Thursday by opening two food distribution hubs, as part of his Coronation Food Project that he launched a year ago in the hopes of bridging the gap between food poverty and food waste. Charles visited one of the new hubs in south London, which is hosting a “surplus food festival” where meals will be made using food that might otherwise have gone to waste. Since it was launched, the food project has worked with local charities FareShare and the Felix Project, and saved 940 tons of surplus food - the equivalent of 2.2 million meals. Charles speaks with staff at the new distribution center, designed to save and circulate surplus food and to support communities in need. King Charles treats his actual birthday in November like a normal working day, but the bonus of being the monarch means that he actually gets two.

With some of these pressure points softening, food prices have cooled to rates comparable to before the pandemic. “Grocery prices have skyrocketed,” he said. “Until we can — if we can — fix climate change, there’s no way that food prices can come down,” he told CNN. In the past, grocery prices have come down primarily when “the economy is under duress” and people don’t have enough money to pay for groceries. Absent these kinds of scenarios, Trump is unlikely to get the actual food prices we pay back to where they were during his first term.

Then, less than six hours after giving birth, O’Neil was wheeled through the labor and delivery unit to go home. Racial disparities persist, she added; for Black people, the preterm birth rate is 1.5 times higher than the rate among all other babies. Many of the regions with high preterm birth rates are maternity care deserts, Williams said. The US cities with high preterm birth rates also are “areas where there are many chronic conditions and patients living with a greater number of things like hypertension, diabetes, obesity – those are all drivers of preterm birth as well,” Williams said. “Every pregnant woman who lives in a maternal health care desert should be provided with access to a health care app that is monitored by remote providers.
