Investors may want to keep an eye on Marvell Technology , as it is poised for artificial intelligence success, according to Wall Street analysts. The commentary comes on the back of the chipmaker's AI event on Thursday, where it announced a new compute customer many speculate could be Microsoft. On the back of the event, Wells Fargo analyst Gary Mobley lifted 2025 revenue and earnings per share estimates to account for a quicker ramp in AI sales. While Morgan Stanley continues to view the stock as an AI winner, analyst Joseph Moore noted he still favors Nvidia. That is in part due to the "sideways" action Marvell has experienced over the past year and its elevated multiple.

American chip giant Intel in December 2021 said it will invest more than $7 billion to build a chip packaging and testing factory in Malaysia, with production expected to begin in 2024. Malaysia holds 13% of the global market for chip packaging, assembly and testing services, said the Malaysian Investment Development Authority in a Feb. 18 report. Exports of semiconductor devices and integrated circuits increased by 0.03% to 387.45 billion Malaysian ringgit ($81.4 billion) in 2023, amid global chip demand weakness. Malaysia Semiconductor Industry Association president Datuk Seri Wong Siew Hai said many Chinese firms diversified some of their production to Malaysia, calling the country China's "plus one." In the same month, the world's largest contract chip maker TSMC opened its first Japan factory as it diversifies away from Taiwan amid U.S.-China tensions.

If recent history is any guide, snatching up shares of Marvell Technology (MRVL) ahead of its upcoming AI presentation could potentially pay off for investors, according to Citi. Given this setup, analyst Atif Malik opened a positive catalyst watch on the semiconductor stock ahead of its April 11 event, with its $91 price target implying 33% upside from Tuesday's close. MRVL YTD mountain Marvell shares in 2024 Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD "moved up into their respective AI days and the setup appears similar for MRVL after the recent pullback," he wrote. While Marvell shares have underperformed in recent weeks following a weak current-quarter guide, Malik noted that shares trade at an 18% valuation discount to many AI peers. The stock is down about 5% in march but up more than 13% on the year.
