Nov 10 (Reuters) - Chicago police are investigating a noose that was found at the construction site of the Obama Presidential Center on Thursday, an act the Illinois governor condemned as a symbol of racist hatred. The incident led to a temporary halt in construction, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing the construction consortium that is building the center. The noose was reported to police by the Lakeside Alliance, a construction team of Black-owned companies that is building the Obama Presidential Center, which will be a museum and public gathering space commemorating Barack and Michelle Obama, the first African-American president and first lady. The Lakeside Alliance is offering a $100,000 reward to help find those responsible, the Chicago Tribune reported, citing an alliance statement. Construction on the site began in 2021 and the center is due to open in 2025.
An Indiana Catholic school teacher was arrested on Thursday after officials said they found she kept a "kill list" and threatened her students, according to NBC Chicago. Carrasquillo-Torres also told the students about the "kill list," adding that they were at the bottom of the list. Carrasquillo-Torres was escorted to the principal’s office following the student’s report, in which the teacher admitted to making the statements to the student and having a kill list. She did not provide the list to the principal, but did name a specific student on the list, NBC Chicago reported. East Chicago police arrested Carrasquillo-Torres Thursday morning at her home after an emergency detention order was approved, according to NBC Chicago.

The collapse occurred just before 9:30 a.m. on West Washington Boulevard and North Central Avenue, the Chicago Fire Department said in a tweet. A building collapsed following an explosion in Chicago on Sept. 20, 2022. Aerial footage of the building showed debris from the collapse strewn over the sidewalk, street and on top of a parked car.
