CHICAGO (AP) — After years of hype, highlights and piles of points — so many points at every level — Connor Bedard has arrived at his first NHL training camp with the Chicago Blackhawks. Even Bedard, used to the hockey spotlight and incredibly composed at just 18 years old, knew it was a moment. He warmed up for training camp with three goals and an assist in an impressive performance in his only game in the Tom Kurvers Prospect Showcase in Minnesota last weekend. Hopefully he just continues to grow.”The biggest concern with Bedard heading into his first NHL season just might be his relative lack of size. I think he’s used to that.”___

On a warm July afternoon, Princess Mhoon, the director of the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, was sitting in a bustling cafe on the outskirts of the University of Chicago’s campus in Hyde Park. Her parents met in an African dance class, and her father was a drummer for local dance companies. So, we had cherry vitamin C — that was my candy.”Recounting her early life, Mhoon, 47, moved through a who’s who of Chicago’s rich Black dance scene. Mhoon trained in African dance with Muntu Dance Theater and learned techniques of the African American diaspora with Najwa Dance Corps, both near where she grew up on the South Side. Several of these companies are now being brought together by the Chicago Black Dance Legacy Project, an initiative that strives to help sustain Black dance makers in the city and offer lasting acknowledgment for their contributions.

There is no reason to think the Chicago Blackhawks will not use the top pick of the NHL Draft on Wednesday in Nashville to select Canadian Bedard, who has positioned himself as the best prospect since Connor McDavid entered the league in 2015. "Connor Bedard is one of those unique, elite talents who belongs in the same category as other generational talents before him such as Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby," said Dan Marr, Vice President of NHL Central Scouting. At age 15, Bedard became the first WHL player to be granted exceptional player status to enter the league at an early age. The NHL Draft, featuring 224 selections, will take place over two days starting with the first round on Wednesday. "I personally support the LGBTQ community and always will," Walsh said. "I don't think that the LGBTQ community should feel that NHL hockey players are turning their back on that community the majority of players wore the jersey." The NHL's ambition of expanding its global footprint and the massive success of the recent World Baseball Classic have increased talk of a World Cup of Hockey in 2025. "I think it is a little bit to early to talk about who is involved in the tournament and who is not," said Walsh. "We should get the tournament on paper and start the conversation going forward what it will look like."
