Fast food chains say they're locked in a "value war" to win increasingly choosy US customers. As a flurry of summer deals come to an end, quick-serve chains say they're now locked in a "value war" to win increasingly choosy US customers. Between higher ingredient usage and other costs on the one hand, and a more competitive consumer economy, interim CEO Scott Boatwright said Chipotle was well-positioned to win the "value war" in fast-casual dining. "We absolutely believe that value in an environment of value-seeking consumers is not about only executing price-pointed promotions and value deals and value bundles — there's more to that." Plosch added that beyond the burger chain's creative promotions, the core menu remains essential to getting customers to come back.

It was the second piece of sophisticated Russian disinformation in a week to gain traction online that falsely asserted voter fraud in a key swing state. Easterly said she expected more attempts by Russia and foreign adversaries to spread false information before and after Election Day. The first video falsely claimed to show a person ripping up filled-in ballots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. U.S. intelligence officials said the video was Russian made and designed to shake public faith in the democratic process. Federal authorities were countering foreign disinformation by “flooding the zone with accurate information,“ Easterly, of CISA, said in her interview on MSNBC.

Last week, a video popped up on social media falsely claiming to show someone ripping up ballots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Instead of relying on flagging suspected foreign disinformation posts to social media companies, U.S. authorities are declassifying information about foreign election interference in an unprecedented way, seizing web domains and issuing indictments that have exposed the mechanics of Russian and Iranian information warfare, officials and researchers said. U.S. intelligence officials later said Russian “influence actors” were behind the false story. And social media companies, under intense legal and political pressure from Republican critics, have scaled back or scrapped teams in recent years that used to take down inflammatory or conspiratorial content. The combination of homegrown falsehoods about “stolen” election conspiracies, surging foreign disinformation campaigns and a laissez-faire approach by tech firms threatens to undermine the foundations of American democracy, experts and lawmakers said.

In the previous presidential election, more than 3 million Pennsylvanians requested mail-in ballots and 85% – just over 2.6 million – voted by mail. To date, more than 2 million people have requested mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania and so far, 71% – over 1.5 million – have returned them. In one transaction, voters apply for, complete and submit their mail-in ballot at a designated election site before Election Day. “A handful of people were allegedly turned away from early voting lines in Bucks County. CNN has reached out to Terada for comment on the R-FBI’s role in Russian disinformation efforts, and ties to the state. Storm-1516 and R-FBI network members have spread at least 54 different disinformation narratives online since August 2023, according to Clemson and CNN’s analysis. “Does anyone believe that an American would be the spearhead of what some call the biggest Russian Disinformation operation since the cold war? TelegramAnother prominent figure in propagating Russian disinformation is American Tara Reade, a former Senate staffer who in 2020 accused then-presidential candidate Joe Biden of sexual harassment. The links between Terada’s group and other Russian disinformation efforts are at best opaque, which is likely no accident.

CNN —US intelligence has assessed that Russian operatives were behind a fake video purporting to show someone destroying mail-in ballots in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, that circulated on social media Thursday. CNN reported earlier Friday that US investigators suspected that Russian operatives were behind the fake video, according to two sources briefed on the matter. The Board of Elections in Bucks County, north of Philadelphia, was quick to debunk the video on Thursday.
