There were just 57 confirmed unprovoked shark attacks last year, out of a global population of 8 billion, five of which were fatal. However, some places around the world have much higher rates of shark attacks than others, with the numbers rising with the passing years. Let’s take a look at the locations worldwide with the highest rates of shark attacks between 2012 and 2021 and the reasons they’ve become hot spots. South Africa (29 bites)South Africa had 29 unprovoked shark bites between 2012 and 2021, of which six were fatal. South Carolina (45 bites)None of the 45 unprovoked attacks in South Carolina in the decade-long time frame were fatal.

"The most recent pulse from April shows that the world energy system is no longer fit for purpose," Wilkinson told CNBC's "Squawk Box Asia" Wednesday, in reference to the findings from her organization's Energy Pulse reports which offer snapshots of trends across the energy ecosystem. The council's most recent report forecasts that around half of the global energy system will still not be electrified by 2050, which would mark a blow to many governments' net-zero pledges. The report cited 64% of global energy leaders sharing their concerns.

SAO PAULO, May 19 (Reuters) - Brazil is investigating another four new potential cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) in wild birds, according to authorities from the state of Espirito Santo, where Brazil's first ever cases were confirmed this week. Detection among wild birds does not spark bans under WOAH guidelines. Espirito Santo is Brazil's third biggest egg producing state and Brazil is the world's biggest chicken exporter. The birds whose samples are now being processed were captured in the municipalities of Nova Venecia, Itapemirim, Linhares and Vitoria, Espirito Santo authorities said. Ipram is where the weakened shore birds were taken before Brazil announced its first cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza on Monday.

Insect proteinSingapore-based Insectta uses black soldier fly larvae to convert organic food waste into fertilizer and animal feed. The maggots are fed food waste, such as the byproducts of soybean factories and breweries. Don Emmert/AFP/Getty ImagesMadramootoo says that a wholescapes approach can also be applied to food production in urban and peri-urban areas – the spaces immediately surrounding a city. “In congested peri-urban areas, we can use vertical farms in warehouses or abandoned buildings, for example, to produce food.
