WASHINGTON — Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., is pushing for more transparency from social media applications amid privacy concerns about China-based apps like TikTok. App stores would be charged to warn users of the risks of downloading foreign applications and provide a filtering method by country of origin. Four out of 5 of the top most popular apps in March are of Chinese origin, according to The Wall Street Journal. "Requiring app stores to display an app's country of origin is a commonsense solution that can help them do just that." "The Know Your App Act would bring much-needed transparency to app stores, empowering Americans to safeguard their families from exploitation," he added.
Likely Republican presidential candidate and U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina filed paperwork Friday to run for president in 2024, officially throwing his hat into a growing Republican primary lineup that former President Donald Trump has so far led. Scott is expected to announce his presidential campaign on Monday morning in North Charleston. Scott's brand of politics, marked by optimism and gestures toward stitching a divided nation back together, has been mostly absent from the Republican presidential conversation. "There's no question that special interests are celebrating as Tim Scott throws his hat into the 2024 race for the MAGA base."

"That was a rigged election," Trump said, adding that anyone who thought otherwise was "stupid." Trump and Collins frequently spoke over each other with Collins challenging a number of the former president's false claims. "It was classic Trump - it was Donald Trump from 2015 right up until now: the Big Lie, the outrageous style, demeaning individuals, mocking them," said Rothenberg, senior editor at the Inside Elections newsletter. New Hampshire is an early nominating state that could prove critical in Trump's bid to win the November 2024 election.

REUTERS/Russell CheyneMay 10 (Reuters) - Former President Donald Trump again refused to acknowledge that he lost the 2020 election and said he would pardon many supporters convicted for their involvement in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol in a contentious CNN town hall on Wednesday. Trump declined to express regret for the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol when supporters sought to prevent Congress for ratifying the election result, and he repeated his plan to pardon individuals involved if voters return him to the White House in 2024. I can't say for every single one because a couple of them probably they got out of control," Trump said. Trump and Collins frequently interrupted each other with Collins challenging a number of the former president's false claims about the 2020 election and the attack on Jan. 6 which followed a speech he gave outside the White House that day.

Photo: Justin Lane/EPA/Shutterstock/Jeff J Mitchell/Getty ImagesDonald Trump, appearing in a live CNN town hall a day after a federal jury in New York found him liable for sexual abuse and defamation, blasted the decision, repeated his false claims about the 2020 election and defended his behavior during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot by his supporters. “They’re doing this for election interference,” Mr. Trump said, nodding to his claims of a vast conspiracy to stop his political career. “This woman, I don’t know her, I never met her,” he said of columnist E. Jean Carroll on Wednesday night from St. Anselm College in New Hampshire, where the nation’s first Republican primary will be held early next year.
CNN —Former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination, will take questions from New Hampshire Republicans and undeclared voters in a CNN town hall Wednesday as myriad legal issues loom over his 2024 White House bid. New Hampshire, home to the first-in-the-nation GOP primary, is also home to many swing voters. That’s a view many GOP voters share, according to recent surveys. Ron DeSantis, has not yet officially launched a bid – Trump has maintained a healthy lead in early GOP primary polling. Wednesday’s live town hall audience will be made up of Republicans and undeclared voters who plan to vote in the GOP primary.
[1/3] Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie speaks at the Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College in Manchester, New Hampshire, U.S., March 27, 2023. REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File PhotoApril 18 (Reuters) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie joined former U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday in criticizing a fellow Republican, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, over his feud with the Walt Disney Co. (DIS.N). "I don’t think Ron DeSantis is a conservative based on his actions towards Disney,” added Christie, who is also said to be considering a run for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. Trump, who could be DeSantis' top rival for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, has called the Florida governor's war with Disney a "political stunt" and suggested it could backfire on the party. DeSantis and the Florida legislature have been working to eliminate the virtual autonomy the company has enjoyed over the Disney World resort and amusement parks for more than 50 years, saying that constitutes an "unfair advantage."

REUTERS/Brian Snyder/File PhotoWASHINGTON, April 6 (Reuters) - Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a lawyer and vaccine skeptic, will make a bid for the White House in 2024, becoming the second long-shot Democratic candidate to challenge President Joe Biden in his expected run for re-election. Senator Robert F. Kennedy, filed papers with the Federal Election Commission on Wednesday. Marianne Williamson, the self-help guru who warned of the "dark psychic force" unleashed by Republican President Donald Trump, launched a Democratic presidential bid for 2024 in March, calling for "justice and love." The environmental lawyer, a member of the storied American political dynasty, was a nephew of assassinated President John F. Kennedy.
"Donald Trump right now is a distraction for the Republican Party in trying to go forward. Yet the willingness of Republican party members to criticize Trump in conversations with Reuters is striking. She worked on his New Hampshire primary campaign, knocked on doors for him, urged anybody she met to vote for him. Despite signs of weariness with Trump, he will still be a formidable candidate in the New Hampshire primary, some party strategists said. His influence is still fairly significant," said Jim Merrill, a veteran New Hampshire Republican strategist.
Larry Hogan of Maryland criticized President Joe Biden and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis during a recent speech in New Hampshire, amid growing speculation that he'll seek the White House in 2024. The Florida governor is up for reelection in November and hasn't said he's seeking the White House, but polling shows he's been edging onto Trump as a GOP favorite. Neither the White House nor the Florida governor's office responded to a request for comment before this story's publication. Should Hogan run for president he would join what is becoming a crowded field of GOP potential contenders.
