Now she has lost the primary in her home state of South Carolina, where she was a two-term governor. Fellow Floridian Jeb Bush, a former governor, dropped out earlier, after a disappointing finish in nearby South Carolina. Former Rep. Dennis Kucinich also made an argument about influencing the agenda when he refused to drop out of the 2004 Democratic primary race. Could Haley win delegates without winning states? CNN —Same-sex unions are now legal in 35 countries and parts of Mexico after Greece became the first Orthodox Christian country to establish marriage equality for all. While Mexico does not have a national law on same-sex marriage, more than half of its states regulate, allow, and recognize it. Here are the countries where same-sex marriage is legal:Since 2001, when the Netherlands became the first country to legalize same-sex marriage, there have been ramped-up efforts worldwide to pass similar legislation. Taiwan, for instance, became the first Asian country to make same-sex marriage a reality in 2019. Marriage equality is still, however, largely limited to countries in the Americas, Europe and Oceania.

CNN —Anonymous reporting systems used by schoolchildren to report concerning behavior among their peers has resulted in the prevention of numerous instances of suicide, school violence and planned attacks, according to a study published Wednesday. The firearm-related tips received by the anonymous reporting system included potential school shootings, observing someone in possession of a weapon, bullying, and harassment or intimidation, according to the study. The Sandy Hook Promise’s Say Something Anonymous Reporting System serves more than 5 million students in sixth through 12th grade in 23 states, according to the study. Other areas use the StopIt anonymous reporting system or unique apps for students in a particular school district for students to report threats. While the topic of gun control can be politically polarizing in the US, improving mechanisms for anonymous reporting of threats by students has been met with bipartisan support.

Filmmakers Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin have given audiences thrilling and sometimes terrifying front-row seats to incredible feats of human ambition in their documentary work. Political Cartoons View All 1233 ImagesIn fiction, she found creative collaborators in their decorated core cast: Annette Bening, who plays Nyad, Jodie Foster as her friend and coach Bonnie Stoll, and Rhys Ifans as the ship's navigator. Vasarhelyi wasn’t without any experience working with actors, either, and in fact learned from the best. With their other films, the filmmakers had loved watching their subjects get to see audiences respond to them and their work.

The search continues for a minivan-sized submersible, called the Titan, that was carrying five people who were traveling to view the wreckage of the Titanic in the North Atlantic. The vessel lost contact with its mother ship Sunday morning, about 1 hour and 45 minutes into the trip down to nearly 13,000 feet. The Titanic lies around 12,500 feet below sea level. For perspective, the world’s deepest scuba dive reached 1,090 feet in 2022, while the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, would only go down 2,717 feet into the ocean – still roughly 9,700 feet short of reaching the Titanic wreckage. See just how deep the Titanic tourist submersible was headed before it went missing.

A new terminal at New York's JFK will be partly powered by a microgrid, batteries, and fuel cells. John F. Kennedy International Airport's $9.5 billion New Terminal One will be partly powered by a microgrid with 11.34 megawatts of electricity from rooftop solar, gas fuel cells, and battery storage. A system that captures waste heat from the fuel cells will chill and warm water. The rooftop solar array — made up of more than 13,000 panels — will be the largest in New York City and at any US airport terminal, AlphaStruxure said. Installing fuel cells, instead of diesel generators, is estimated to reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide, a toxic air pollutant, by 98%, Macias added.
