CNN —Canadian world champion pole vaulter Shawn Barber has died at the age of 29, his agent Paul Doyle told CNN on Thursday. Barber set the Canadian world record for the men’s pole vault in January 2016. Shawn Barber competed in the men's pole vault final at the 2015 IAAF World Athletics Championships in Beijing. His best vault was 6 meters, which is still the Canadian record, according to Olympics.com. AKRON, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio man accused of abducting and beating a woman while she was confined for four days in a residential garage last month pleaded not guilty during a court hearing Thursday. William Mozingo, 33, was arraigned on charges of kidnapping, felonious assault, abduction and unlawful restraint. Authorities have said the woman knew Mozingo but not very well. The alleged abduction and attacks occurred after he offered to drive her home but instead took her to the garage. It shows officers using a ladder to help the woman climb down from a partially hidden hole in the ceiling.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The eight Ohio police officers who fired scores of shots that killed Jayland Walker, a 25-year-old Black man, after a car and foot chase last year are back on active duty, officials said. Michael Miller, in a statement, cited a state investigation and an Ohio grand jury's decision against indicting any officers in the June 2022 shooting death of Walker. Some of the officers first used Tasers to try and stop Walker, but he reached toward his waistband and raised a hand as officers were chasing, Yost said. The officers, whose identities haven’t been released, were put on leave following the shooting and then reinstated to desk duty in October 2022. Attorneys for the eight officers released a statement earlier calling the shooting a tragedy for the entire community, including Walker’s family and all of the officers who were involved.

Smucker has an RTO policy that requires workers to be on-site only during 22 "core" weeks. The Smucker model appears to be a hit with workers, who can live anywhere as long as they return for "core" weeks. Amazon's CEO Andy Jassy just told employees it was "past" time to commit to its return-to-office mandate of three days a week. Last week, Goldman Sachs told more of its workers to start coming into the office five days a week. ☆ Choreographers Make Their Own Kind of Administrative Dance

The Creative Administration Research program pairs choreographers with what it calls thought partners, collaborators who might be business-minded arts administrators, funders or presenters, but who are also often working artists. The program has also hosted two summits, bringing several dozen artists and leaders to the center’s University of Akron home to share their insights into creative administration. (And to dance together — or to “physicalize their administrative thinking and dreaming,” as a news release said.) Banning Bouldin, who uses they/them pronouns, formerly ran their Nashville organization, New Dialect, as a conventional dance company, though their goal was to create a dance hub for the city. “We’re serving more artists and more of the community in a way that’s financially sustainable.”Rosie Herrera, the director of Rosie Herrera Dance Theater, found that Creative Administration Research affirmed many of her existing ways of working.
