Bjørn Gulden was chosen to be the chief executive of Adidas. Adidas AG said it tapped Bjørn Gulden to take over as chief executive of the sportswear giant, luring the executive away from crosstown rival Puma SE as it grapples with issues ranging from the future of its popular Yeezy sneaker brand to sliding market share in China. Adidas said last week it was in talks with Mr. Gulden as a possible successor to incumbent Adidas CEO Kasper Rorsted . Puma had earlier announced Mr. Gulden’s departure after nine years in charge.

Bjørn Gulden is a former professional soccer player who had led Puma since 2013. Struggling sportswear giant Adidas AG said Friday it is in talks with Bjørn Gulden , the departing CEO of Puma SE, to succeed its own chief executive. The news came minutes after Puma said it had appointed a new CEO to succeed Mr. Gulden, a former professional soccer player who had led Puma since 2013.
“When something comes up that requires a fast, human, unambiguous action, very few companies are prepared,” said Mr. DiMassimo. “If the talent retains some ownership, then you have to stop making the product entirely instead of just taking their name off,” said Mr. Chase. The offensive behaviors may be specific to the company in question; alcohol brands commonly include contractual clauses forbidding D.U.I. arrests or drunk and disorderly behavior among their representatives, said Mr. Chase. And that is not just because such behavior could occur again, according to Mr. Chase.
Adidas put the tie-up, which has produced several hot-selling Yeezy branded sneakers, under review this month. "Adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other sort of hate speech," the German company said on Tuesday. Forbes magazine said the end of the deal meant Ye's net worth shrank to $400 million. The magazine had valued his share of the Adidas partnership at $1.5 billion. On Tuesday, Gap, which had ended its partnership with Ye in September, said it was taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from its stores and that it had shut down YeezyGap.com.
Oct 26 (Reuters) - Skechers USA Inc (SKX.N) said on Wednesday its executives escorted Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, out of a Los Angeles corporate office, after the rapper and fashion designer "showed up unannounced and uninvited". Skechers' comments come a day after sportswear brand Adidas AG (ADSGn.DE) ended its partnership with West, following a series of antisemitic comments from the celebrity. "We condemn his recent divisive remarks and do not tolerate antisemitism or any other form of hate speech," Skechers said. Apparel company Gap Inc (GPS.N), which terminated its tie-up with West in September, is also taking immediate steps to remove Yeezy Gap products from its stores and shut down YeezyGap.com. Shares of California-based Skechers were up nearly 1% in extended trading, after closing down nearly 10% on Wednesday.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - As corporations around the world including Adidas AG (ADSGn.DE) cut ties with Kanye West, music streaming service Spotify Technology SA(SPOT.N) said it would not remove the rapper's music unless his label requested it. Music from the artist now known as Ye did not violate anti-hate policies, Spotify chief Daniel Ek told Reuters. The music also can be found on Apple Music and YouTube Music. Since the remarks, Ye has lost high profile and lucrative partnerships. If Ye's label asks for the rapper's catalog to be removed, Ek said, "Obviously we'll respect their wishes."
BERLIN—Adidas AG said it would end its partnership with Kanye West following a string of controversies including a recent anti-Semitic outburst by the musician and designer. The move, which ends a lucrative arrangement that has produced the popular Yeezy collection of sneakers, comes after weeks of pressure on the German sportswear company from human rights advocates and after other businesses severed their ties with the rapper.
Oct 25 (Reuters) - German sporting goods maker Adidas AG (ADSGn.DE) plans to end its partnership with American rapper Kanye West, following a rash of offensive behaviour from the performer and designer, Bloomberg News said on Tuesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Adidas may announce the move as early as Tuesday, the report added, saying the rapper, who now goes by the name Ye, has made controversial statements, including anti-Semitic social media posts, in recent weeks. Adidas on Oct. 6 said it was reviewing its business partnership with the rapper and fashion designer. West which has been partnering with Adidas since 2013 had been publicly critical of Adidas and its CEO, adding that the sporting goods maker were copying his ideas, CNBC had earlier reported. Ye recently has agreed to buy Parler, the social media platform popular among U.S. conservatives.

Adidas put the partnership under review earlier in October "after repeated efforts to privately resolve the situation." Ye has courted controversy in recent months by publicly ending major corporate tie-ups and due to outbursts on social media against other celebrities. His Twitter and Instagram accounts were restricted, with the social media platforms removing some of his online posts that users condemned as antisemitic.
Kanye West’s breakup with Gap Inc. reflects a broader trend of celebrities seeking more control over the brands they create or back. But in this instance, Mr. Shabelman said the friction between Mr. West and Gap fits into a larger development in the world of celebrity marketing. Mr. West “doesn’t need those corporations,” said Anjali S. Bal, an associate professor of marketing at Babson College. Mr. West formally notified Gap on Thursday that his Yeezy LLC fashion brand was terminating his partnership with the apparel chain. More recently, tennis champion Naomi Osaka last year began a media company called Hana Kuma in partnership with SpringHill Co., an entertainment firm co-founded by LeBron James.
