Student-loan borrowers who were part of a 2022 settlement are still waiting for their relief to be processed. A legal advocacy group said a student-loan company is not carrying out the settlement terms correctly. It said some borrowers within the settlement were told they have to resume payments in October. The group said that forcing borrowers with pending borrower defense claims back into repayment "violates the court-approved Settlement Agreement and applicable regulations." The federal pause on student-loan payment ended on September 1 when interest began accruing again on borrowers' balances.

Rep. Virginia Foxx and Sen. Bill Cassidy asked the GAO to investigate the student-loan payment resumption. They said they're concerned loan servicers are not adequately prepared to facilitate repayment. The student-loan payment pause officially ended on September 1 when interest began accruing again on federal borrowers' balances, and bills will start becoming due next month. Additionally, Cassidy and Foxx said that it is "unclear whether borrowers will begin repayments when billing statements resume. In other cases, there will be borrowers who will take some time to work student loans back into their household budgets."

Let’s go to work.”Tuberville’s blockade is unique because it affects hundreds of military nominations and promotions. But, while unusual, Tuberville's office notes that lawmakers from both parties have threatened holds on military promotions over the years. But if Republican leaders are pressuring Tuberville to end his holds, they are not doing so publicly. Some Republicans have suggested that Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., could hold votes on some of the most critical nominations. “I'd like to vote to rescind the policy, but I'm not going to hold the military up in perpetuity,” Graham said.

Biden formally launched the new income-driven repayment plan, known as the SAVE plan. "Just like Biden's student debt transfer scheme, this IDR rule is deeply unfair to the 87 percent of Americans who currently have no student loans and will now have to foot the bill for someone else's debt." Spokespeople for both lawmakers confirmed to Insider that they will introduce bills in the House and Senate to overturn the SAVE plan. Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday that "Biden's SAVE plan helps Americans with student debt by capping interest growth and lowering monthly payments. In addition to repayment reforms for borrowers, the Education Department is also in the process of implementing broad debt relief again using the Higher Education Act of 1965.

In October, student-loan borrowers will start making payments again. The Education Department announced a number of steps to ease the transition back into repayment. In March 2020, former President Donald Trump first implemented the student-loan payment pause, with waived interest, to give millions of federal borrowers financial relief during the pandemic. An Education Department spokesperson confirmed in June that there is no leeway with that provision. "Student loan interest will resume starting on September 1, 2023, and payments will be due starting in October," a department spokesperson said.

Wagner's aborted rebellion in Russia over the weekend was a chaotic mess that ultimately failed. That's the question anybody following the chaotic attempt by the Wagner mercenary group to stage a rebellion in Russia last weekend probably asked themselves. Prigozhin bailed on his plan, sent everyone home, and headed off to some kind of retirement in Belarus. After the Saudi government created an upstart professional golf tour in 2021 to compete with the PGA — the world’s most prestigious tour, based in the U.S. — top PGA executives set out to destroy the new venture. They banned golfers who signed up with the Saudi tour, known as LIV Golf, from PGA events and put intense pressure on other golfers not to join LIV. PGA executives also complained to members of Congress about Saudi Arabia’s human rights record. “Have you ever had to apologize for being a member of the PGA Tour?” Monahan asked on national television. It was all part of a campaign to undermine LIV, even if doing so required damaging the reputations of leading golfers.

California bank regulators shuttered SVB on Friday and the FDIC set up an intermediary bank to take over the bank's insured deposits. By Sunday, New York state bank regulators and the FDIC did the same to Signature Bank, which was a major source of lending for the cryptocurrency industry. The letter came on the heels of a joint announcement by the Justice Department and the SEC about the pending investigation into the SVB failure. Bank officials also lobbied Congress for exemptions to federal oversight regulations. "I am not prejudging this matter, and am not in position to do so," the lawmakers wrote to Gensler and Garland.

Gensler recently announced that the agency is considering adjustments to the proposal, first introduced in March 2022, after pushback from investors. Gensler told CNBC's "Squawk Box" earlier this month that the proposal simply required a clear climate transition plan from public companies. Earlier this month, McHenry formed a Republican working group on environmental, social and governance, or ESG, plans in part to target the rule disclosure. ESG platforms broadly apply to taking into account the environmental and social implications of a company's decisions, and not just its financial performance, as part of investing decisions. Many House Republicans have criticized ESG plans — but some of them have received campaign contributions from the very financial firms they are targeting.

Kurtwood Smith played Red Forman on "That '70s Show" and reprised the role for "That '90s Show." Fans who recognize him will often come up and ask him to call them "a dumbass" just like Red would. The idea of Jackie and Fez together is pretty funny. I was a little insecure on the first episode of "That '70s Show," but I got some pretty good laughs out of it, and then it just continued on. I didn't necessarily think, "Oh, I'm pretty funny" — we had great writers on that show, and we have great writers on "That '90s Show."

Remote workers are "blending it all together," in their wardrobes, Fortune reported. In recent years, athleisure brand Lululemon has spiked in popularity as more people seek comfort in their daily attire. "Gone are the days of two separate wardrobes or even three separate wardrobes," Maria Rugolo, director and industry analyst of fashion apparel at NPD, told Fortune. The change in work attire is evident in the TikTok trend of users showing their remote workwear. Such outfit choices have caused athleisure brands, like Lululemon, to explode in popularity.
To recognize the hundreds of officers who were at the Capitol on Jan. 6, the medals will be placed in four locations — at U.S. Capitol Police headquarters, the Metropolitan Police Department, the Capitol and the Smithsonian Institution. Awarding the medals will be among House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s last ceremonial acts as she prepares to step down from leadership. Officers suffered physical wounds, including brain injuries and other lifelong effects, and many struggled to work afterward because they were so traumatized. Two police officers died by suicide in the days that immediately followed, and a third officer, Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, collapsed and later died after one of the rioters sprayed him with a chemical. The Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor Congress can bestow, has been handed out by the legislative branch since 1776.
GOP Reps. Virginia Foxx and Jason Smith began oversight actions on Biden's student-debt relief. It comes as Biden's debt relief remains on hold due to rulings from two federal courts. While Democrats maintained control over the Senate in the midterms elections, Republicans managed to win a slim majority over the House — and they're likely to use that power to investigate the Biden administration. They have supported the two lawsuits that have successfully put a pause on the implementation of the debt relief. The department has also taken matters to the Supreme Court, most recently appealing the decision of the 8th Circuit Court of Appeals to continue its pause on Biden's debt relief.
