Its online statement described the situation as an "escalation of tensions and violence between Palestine and Israel." "We call on relevant parties to remain calm, exercise restraint and immediately end the hostilities to protect civilians and avoid further deterioration of the situation," the Chinese foreign ministry said. BEIJING (AP) — U.S. Senate Majority Leader Schumer criticized China on Monday and told Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi that he was very disappointed by China's statement on the recent Hamas attack because it didn't show any sympathy or support for Israel. Schumer is leading a delegation of six senators to China this week. “I urge you and the Chinese people to stand with the Israeli people and condemn these cowardly and vicious attacks,” said Schumer. The Korean Embassy has asked local police to investigate the incident, per local reports.
