Fujishima said the alleged sex abuse had really happened and that she would stay on the company’s board to see through a victim compensation program. A group of men who accused Kitagawa of raping them as children said they were pleased the company apologized, but some had reservations. The three-month probe concluded that Johnny Kitagawa sexually assaulted and abused boys as far back as the 1950s and targeted at least several hundred people. The men who have come forward say Kitagawa raped, fondled and abused them while they were working for his company as dancers and singers. One man who came forward recently said he was routinely molested when Kitagawa had yet to found his company.

Much of the drama in the charming new Netflix teen comedy “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah” revolves around the pitfalls of social media, specifically the public sharing of private videos. A mild spoiler: Stacy completes the jump without injury and to great applause, until her maxi pad floats up next to her and the applause dissolves into laughter. A humiliation like this used to be confined to the memory of the kids who witnessed it, and at worst, it became local lore. They’re 10 and 7 and I don’t allow them to use social media yet, and I feel some comfort having equipped them with as much information as I can about the digital world. I’m not naïve and I don’t think they’re perfect angels — I know they’ll make mistakes, but hopefully they have enough foresight and knowledge that their errors aren’t catastrophic ones.

A photo by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) for an initiative called “No Place for Hate” has been altered to replace the word “hate” with “whites,” yet some online posts share the edited photo alongside calls to ban the nonprofit. ADL created the “No Place for Hate” initiative to provide schools and communities with a framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred. A post on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter, said: “Why does the ADL promote this overt anti-White hatred and bigotry? The photo shows four people holding balloons that read: “NO place for WHITES.”Another example on Facebook said, in part, “The ADL is an anti white hate group” and calls for a ban on the ADL (here). The signage on the balloons read: “NO place for HATE.”A cropped version of the photo can also be seen on a page dedicated to the initiative on the ADL website with the same “NO place for HATE” wording (www.noplaceforhate.org/why).

Elon Musk on Monday posted that he was against antisemitism and blamed the Anti-Defamation League for lost advertising revenue since his acquisition of X, formerly known as Twitter. "If this continues, we will have no choice but to file a defamation suit against, ironically, the 'Anti-Defamation' League," Musk wrote. An email to attorneys representing Musk and X asking whether a complaint has been drafted was not immediately returned. X filed a lawsuit last month against the Center for Countering Digital Hate (CCDH), a nonprofit organization that monitors hate speech and disinformation. The ADL also posted a report in March accusing the platform of failing to take action against hate speech.

“For almost two years, we told families that school can look different and that schoolwork could be accomplished in times outside of the traditional 8-to-3 day,” Elmer Roldan, who runs a dropout prevention group, told The Los Angeles Times. “The most fundamental thing for adults to understand is that avoidance feeds anxiety,” Damour told me. But the problem with giving in to that anxiety is that avoidance is highly reinforcing.” The more often students skip school, the harder it becomes to get back in the habit of going. And the rise in chronic absenteeism is indeed a sign that schools need help. One promising step would be to make teaching a more appealing job, Damour notes, in order to attract more great teachers.

CNN —Jim Abbott was used to dealing with uncomfortable social situations; in some ways, they were all he’d ever known. Abbott was about to pull off a no-hitter, one of the rarest feats in Major League Baseball. Baseball insiders will tell you that nobody ever sees a no-hitter coming, and that was certainly true for Jim Abbott. “I had some pretty serious anxiety about that game,” Abbott said in 2013. “That was my dream come true,” Lea Michele gushed from the stage on Sunday after her final performance in “Funny Girl,” the Broadway revival that the actress breathed new life into when its future looked grim one year ago. Michele’s sudden addition to the production, which closed with its star’s exit, stretched its run to nearly 600 performances and allowed it to recoup its capitalization costs — far from a guarantee on Broadway. “I was embraced with open arms the minute I came in.”Just as Michele reversed the show’s fortunes, “Funny Girl” appeared to have reversed hers. Three years ago, Michele’s celebrity had been clouded by a wave of criticism over bullying behavior and a prima donna attitude. Since she stepped in as the show’s lead, Michele has reassumed the role of a celebrated Broadway star, announcing Tony nominees, performing on late-night shows and booking a solo concert this fall at Carnegie Hall.

Boquete led a mutiny seeking the resignation of coach Ignacio Quereda after a woeful performance at the 2015 World Cup, the only one his teams reached in nearly three decades. The findings are part of a larger investigation into allegations of harassment within Japan’s Self-Defense Forces (SDF), including by whistleblower and former SDF member Rina Gonoi. The report, released last week, reviewed 1,325 reports of harassment. Most were “power harassment” incidents, meaning workplace bullying or other abuses of power, while about 12% were sexual harassment cases. But it paid off, eventually prompting a sweeping probe into sexual harassment across the SDF. Prosecutors reopened an investigation that found she had endured physical and verbal sexual harassment daily between fall 2020 and August 2021, according to Gonoi’s defense team.

Users of X, formerly known as Twitter, will no longer be able to block comments from unwanted followers, according to a post by X owner Elon Musk on Friday, eliminating what's long been viewed as a key safety feature. "Block is going to be deleted as a 'feature', except for DMs," Musk wrote Friday. The mute feature just keeps the individual user from seeing the undesired responses, but doesn't eliminate them from others' feeds. Twitter users have also long employed the block feature in boycotts and to avoid seeing ads from specific brands or promoters on the platform. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao, an investor in the new Twitter alongside Musk, said in a post that the company should focus its attention elsewhere.

China's economy is plagued with problems and is a "ticking time bomb," President Biden said. The president pointed to sluggish growth and high unemployment in the nation. At a Utah fundraiser on Wednesday, the president pointed to various problems plaguing China's economy, including the country's weak growth prospects and high unemployment rate. Meanwhile, China's youth unemployment rate notched a record 21% in July, due to a lack of high-skilled and high-paying jobs in the nation. That could put US-China relations on "collision course" that ends up weighing on the global economy, according to "Dr. Doom" economist Nouriel Roubini.
