As a travel reporter, I have sailed on four ships each from separate cruise lines. Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas could be different from any vessel I've been on. I've sailed on my fair share of cruise ships during my tenure as a travel reporter with Insider. That’s the highest number of norovirus outbreaks on cruises recorded since 2012, with almost half of the calendar year left to go. Still, to prevent the spread of norovirus, Schaffner recommends that cruise passengers take extra precautions and wash their hands thoroughly with soap and warm water. According to data from the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program, the number of norovirus outbreaks on cruise ships docking at U.S. ports had years of steady decline after 2015. CNN —A Princess Cruises ship crashed into a pier in San Francisco as it was preparing to dock after a 10-day Alaskan cruise, officials said. The 113,561-ton Ruby Princess “made unexpected contact with the dock at Pier 27” at the port of San Francisco Thursday morning, Princess Cruises said in a statement obtained by CNN. Princess Cruises said it was still planning to board passengers onto the Ruby Princess, but it was not clear when the ship would leave for Alaska.
