The next month, that same group, the Amazon Labor Union (ALU), fell short at a smaller facility across the street. On Wednesday, workers at an Amazon facility near Albany, New York, will begin voting on whether to join the ALU and become the second unionized Amazon warehouse in the United States. It also comes as Amazon has still not formally recognized the union in Staten Island or come to the bargaining table. Chris Smalls, a leader of the Amazon Labor Union, leads a march of Starbucks and Amazon workers and their allies to the homes of their CEOs to protest union busting on Labor Day, September 5, 2022, in New York City, New York. “I think they have an uphill battle ahead,” Kochan said of the union vote at the ALB1 facility.
Hollister Co., the Abercrombie & Fitch Co. retailer popular among teens, is rolling out a new system that lets shoppers pass their carts to someone else for payment. “There was a lot of lost sales on the table,” said Samir Desai, chief digital and technology officer at Abercrombie & Fitch Co. The Share2Pay system will initially only be available to customers in the U.S. and U.K. using the Hollister app. It lets shoppers send their shopping carts to the ultimate buyer via text message in lieu of a traditional checkout mechanism. Shoppers using the Share2Pay system can send their baskets to their designated buyers along with a note.
The Grevy Zebra, the world’s rarest of the zebra species, has been the worst hit species by the drought. “If the approaching rainy season fails, Grevy’s zebra face a very serious threat of starvation,” she said. “Since June, we have lost 58 Grevy’s zebra and mortality cases are rising as the drought intensifies.”Even the most drought-resistant animals are impacted. The Grevy’s Zebra Trust says it is helping endangered species survive the drought through supplementary feeding. Subversive Capital filed a Form N-1A on Sept. 15 to establish two ETFs that will follow exactly how Democrat and Republican members of Congress are trading. Subversive Capital is working with Unusual Whales — a retail trading tool for individual stocks, options and crypto — to provide data for the ETFs. Recently, the subject of congressional members trading stocks has raised questions regarding the potential for insider trading and conflicts of interest, leading to the introduction of legislation that would restrict those in Congress from being able to buy and sell individual stocks. Here's what you need to know about the political implications of Congressional stock trading and the new ETFs that are being created to track it. It's also unclear what will happen to the two new ETFs if the congressional stock trading ban does eventually pass.
JPMorgan is preparing for a quantum futureDavid Castillo, Andrew J. Lang, and Marco Pistoia. The difference could allow users of the tech to process algorithms and execute calculations at blistering speeds. That's because quantum computing uses quantum mechanics, a kind of physics that leverages quantum bits, or qubits, instead of ones and zeros used by classic computers. But JPMorgan researchers say there are signs the industry is getting close to the point where quantum computers can process real-world problems faster than classic computers, often referred to as quantum advantage. The platform, run by Castillo, is also hardware-agnostic, meaning it can interface with quantum computers from different providers without needing to rewrite the application code.

REUTERS/Nate RaymondBOSTON, Sept 22 (Reuters) - U.S. prosecutors on Thursday said they reached an agreement to drop criminal charges filed during the Trump administration against a Massachusetts judge accused of impeding a federal immigration arrest of a defendant in her courtroom. Federal prosecutors said they had agreed to dismiss the obstruction charges filed against Newton District Court Judge Shelley Joseph in exchange for the judge referring herself to a state commission tasked with investigating judicial misconduct. Prosecutors are also dropping obstruction charges against her former courtroom deputy, Wesley MacGregor, who entered into a deferred prosecution agreement to resolve a remaining perjury count. Prosecutors claimed Joseph and MacGregor in 2018 helped a previously deported state court defendant evade being detained by an ICE agent by allowing him leave their Newton courthouse through a rear door. "I have concluded that the interests of justice are best served by review of this matter before the body that oversees the conduct of Massachusetts state court judges, rather than in a continued federal criminal prosecution," Cunha said.
The losses are mounting for Opendoor as home prices fall in previously red-hot markets such as Phoenix, Southern California, and Las Vegas. Opendoor cut the listing price three times, ultimately dropping it to $657,000 before the property sold. Opendoor has since cut the listing price five times, most recently advertising the property at $417,000. Records on Zillow indicate Opendoor has reduced the listing price six times. As for the homes Opendoor is buying today, Wu said executives "expect those to perform well and in line with expectations."
"These defendants exploited a program designed to provide nutritious food to needy children during the COVID-19 pandemic." The alleged scheme was tied to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Federal Child Nutrition Program aimed at feeding needy children. The program, which was expanded during the pandemic, allows private restaurants to run federally funded food distribution sites, as long as they are sponsored by a non-profit organization. Prosecutors said restaurant owners and others paid bribes to Feeding Our Future employees to get the organization to sponsor sham distribution sites. Defendants created dozens of shell companies to run the fake distribution sites and to launder the proceeds of the scheme, prosecutors said.

(CNN) Broadway's longest-running show, Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera," will play its final five months before closing its doors for good, a spokesperson for the show told CNN Friday. The final performance will take place on Saturday, February, 18, 2023, at Broadway's Majestic Theatre, Michael Borowski of The Publicity Office said in an email. Prior to the Broadway show's conclusion, "Phantom" will celebrate its 35th anniversary on January 26 with director Seth Sklar-Heyn at the helm, Borowski said. Ticket sales had slowed for Broadway shows during the pandemic and "Phantom" was no exception, recently dropping from 255,000 weekly attendees in May to about 180,000 attendees in September, according to The Broadway League. The show's flagship London production will celebrate its 36th year on October 9 and the recently premiered Melbourne version will likewise continue.
“Phantom” is a staple within the Broadway world with over 70 major theater wins and 13,733 performances since its debut in 1988. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera” is based on the classic novel by Gaston Leroux and was originally directed by Harold Prince. “Phantom” tells the 19th century story of aspiring opera singer Christine Daae who is taught by the mysterious Phantom to hone her vocal skills. However, things take a dark turn when the Phantom chooses Christine as his muse, and she falls in love with an arts benefactor named Raoul. As an emerging alternative to the traditional computer, JPMorgan execs believe quantum computing could upend how finance firms perform computations. Unlike classical computers, which can store only a one or a zero, quantum computers use quantum bits, or qubits. Qubits can store multiple values at the same time, which theoretically gives the quantum computers big speed advantages. Meanwhile, Fidelity has been exploring the potential of quantum computing in wealth management. Wells Fargo, too, has invested in quantum computing to process complex data structures used for fraud detection.
There's some cliché financial advice I've heard over and over that financial planners say to ignore. "Renting is throwing money away" and "a credit card balance is good for your credit score" are examples. That made me wonder if frequently passed-along financial advice always rings true. Crypto is the futureLately, all the financial advice my friends are giving me has to do with cryptocurrencies. "Since credit utilization is responsible for 30% of your credit score, it's a good idea to keep it as low as you can."

I talked to advisors about what successful strategies they saw clients use to build wealth in 2021. Using an HSA, living below their means, and setting clear money goals were some of their responses. Financial advisor Andrew Lokenauth said that a common thing he sees with successful clients is that they are living below their means.

I like to set clear financial goals every new year, which involves both creating plans and avoiding pitfalls.
