We could talk, I suppose, about all Taylor Swift’s done for the economy, friendship bracelets, seismology and Travis Kelce. Nor is her show — produced as discrete segments devoted to nine of Swift’s 10 albums — the cultural gymnasium Madonna requires. Swift plays to her enhanced strengths: candied pitch, arresting stature, toothsome songwriting, winking, the very idea of play. Rapt in a movie theater, I felt the song’s heart-wrung pique in a new way. Some of that comes from watching Swift’s face register the ache, tsking recrimination.

U.S. singer-songwriter Taylor Swift performs during her Eras Tour at Sofi stadium in Inglewood, California, August 7, 2023. Taylor Swift, the cultural juggernaut known for shattering records, said on Wednesday that the documentary film from her billion-dollar Eras concert tour will offer one-day early-access showings in the U.S. and Canada. "Due to unprecedented demand we're opening up early access showings of The Eras Tour Concert Film on Thursday in America and Canada. Previously, Swift had said the movie, "Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour," would only be released in North America, but it was later announced that it would be screened worldwide. Last week, AMC's shares rose 11% after the company said that advance ticket sales for the concert film had topped $100 million globally.

U.S. singer-songwriter Taylor Swift performs during her The Eras Tour concert at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Aug. 7, 2023. Taylor Swift has sold out stadiums worldwide and now she's packing cinemas, with her sights set on a $100 million opening weekend for her The Eras Tour concert film — and that's on the conservative side. Box office analysts predict Swift's film could generate as much as $150 million during its debut this weekend, a figure that would make it the highest opening of a concert film ever, and also one of the highest openings of 2023. The film is expected to draw those who were unable to attend, as well as spark repeat viewings. "Given the unique nature of virtually every aspect of the marketing and theatrical release strategy of the Taylor Swift Eras Tour film, speculation is running rampant as to how massive the opening weekend will be," said Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst a Comscore.

But “The Eras Tour” heralds something new and potentially game-changing in the movie industry. BTS earlier this year released a concert film, with higher ticket prices and limited showtimes. But “The Eras Tour” could be the start of an expansion of what, exactly, a movie theater can be. The movie, directed by Sam Wrench, would be a way for millions more to experience the Eras Tour. “The industry needs it and, frankly, so do consumers.”Meanwhile, “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” is poised to become the biggest concert film ever in about two days of release.

Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average slid 57 points, or 0.2%. Stocks were aided by a retreat in Treasury yields. The rate on the 10-year Treasury note slipped from highs last seen in 2007 after payroll processing firm ADP said that private job growth totaled 89,000 for September. The spread between the 2-year and 10-year Treasury yields ended Wednesday at about 31 basis points. The 2- and 10-year yield curve has been inverted since March 2022 – meaning short-term Treasury rates are higher than long-term rates.

For Drock, a lobbyist who lives in Washington, DC, and his wife, the road to a $1 million net worth by 35 was littered with trade-offs. Drock told Insider there are three lifestyle tradeoffs that have had an outsized impact on his and his wife's ability to build wealth. "When I first asked her to consider moving, she literally cried," Drock wrote in a blog post. It turned out to be a "key decision for our financial life," he said. It’s too soon to tell, but there are alarm bells ringing that indicate investors should be — and are — on edge. Stocks rebounded this year after a bruising 2022, as artificial intelligence excitement led investors to fuel a powerful tech-driven surge. While shares of tech behemoths have led the market’s surge this year, the rally had begun to broaden out in early summer. High yields often mean bad news for stocks, since investors tend to gravitate toward virtually risk-free Treasury bonds when they offer high returns over stocks. Spending in the second quarter grew at its weakest pace since the first quarter of 2022, when it was flat.
