The other tier comprises mainstream vessels that use Western services for legal oil shipments, including from Russia under the terms of the price cap. In the short term, available ghost vessels could be in particular demand, making chartering them more expensive. Even so, some analysts say removing the price cap could be the way to really punish Russia. But he said that was very unlikely because the price cap at least allows Russian oil to flow, thereby moderating international prices. "The Biden administration is already reeling from higher oil prices compounded by the unrest in Gaza, potentially spreading to a wider Middle Eastern conflict.

Ackman said on Monday on X, "we covered our bond short" some 12 weeks after he announced the bet on the messaging platform formerly known as Twitter. "The economy is slowing faster than recent data suggests," Ackman said in the post, adding "There is too much risk in the world to remain short bonds at current long-term rates." The yield on the 30-year Treasuries was around 4.16% when he announced his bet against them. He said the Treasury yield, which moves in the opposite direction of prices, could rise to 5.5%. But the conflict between Islamist group Hamas and Israel is unnerving investors and suggests Treasuries could become a safe investment option.

HONOLULU (AP) — All of West Maui except for burned-out sections of historic Lahaina will reopen to tourism on Nov. 1 following the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than century, the mayor of Maui County said Monday. Mayor Richard Bissen said he made the move after talking about it with his Lahaina advisory team, the Red Cross and other partners. West Maui has about 11,000 hotel rooms, or about half of Maui's total. Josh Green last month declared West Maui would officially reopen to tourism on Oct. 8 to bring back badly needed jobs and help the economy recover. Residents who have been staying in West Maui hotels and other short-term accommodations after losing their homes in the fire won't lose their lodging, the mayor said.

Some are bouncing from hotel room to hotel room, in some cases to make way for the return of tourists who are crucial to the local economy. That’s trickier on Maui, an island of about 150,000 people that's a 30-minute plane ride from the nearest major city, Honolulu. America’s Debt Crisis Burns While Congress Fiddles

Last month, the Penn Wharton Budget Model from the University of Pennsylvania came out with an analysis of the debt crisis entitled “When Does Federal Debt Reach Unsustainable Levels?”Their answer? The concern is that punting the problem into the future, continuing to raise debt even as interest rates rise further or hold at higher levels for longer, the debt will grow even faster in a “snowball” scenario. Similar proposals have been offered over the years but at the same time they seem to lack political support – indeed, Republicans have recently voiced the idea of cutting Social Security. The debt crisis is rapidly worsening at a time when the bond market is having its own set of problems. A recent government auction of debt, an occurrence that is becoming more common as the U.S. borrows more, saw weak demand.

The airstrikes have killed over 1,100 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry. The Israeli military says more than 1,200 were killed and dozens more abducted, and the government declared war, promising a punishing campaign to destroy Hamas' military capabilities. This time, Israeli airstrikes are rapidly laying waste to vast swaths of Gaza, and casualties are mounting too fast for anyone to keep up. In many cases, residents say, the Israeli military has bombed apartment towers without the usual warning shots, wiping out families in their homes. The Israeli military rarely comments on individual airstrikes.

Five hotels in West Maui were accepting reservations again, according to their websites and the Maui Hotel and Lodging Association. WASHINGTON, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Two U.S. senators said they were investigating short video sharing app TikTok's reported decision recently to hire several high-level executives from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. Republican Senator Josh Hawley, who sought unanimously consent to win approval for legislation to ban TikTok in May, plans to force a vote on the issue later this year. "We need to come back to it and we need to ban it," he told Reuters last month. "(TikTok) has hired lobbyists by the bazillion, they are in the halls constantly and they have been able to stop progress." Here's how a SPARC differs from a SPAC:DEAL VISIBILITYOne of the biggest differences is a SPARC doesn't require up-front money from investors like a SPAC does. SPAC investors are then given the option to vote down an acquisition or redeem their shares once a deal has been announced. SPARC will only ask for money from investors once it has clinched and disclosed a deal to buy a company. CAPITAL FLEXIBILITYUnlike a SPAC, the amount of money SPARC seeks from investors will vary based on the size of the deal it pursues. This means that SPARC investors will not be diluted by such warrants and will get to keep more of the company.
