According to a May Zumper report, the national median rent for a one-bedroom apartment is $1,487. The New York-Newark-Jersey City metro area saw the average rent for a one-bedroom apartment go from $1,991 in 2023 to $2,008 in 2024, an increase of only $17 or 0.9%. Connecticut has the most metro areas with the biggest rent increase for one-bedroom apartments — four out of the top five. This includes one statistical area that covers part of northeastern Connecticut and a swath of Massachusetts including Worcester. Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange who was convicted of fraud and conspiracy, was transferred out of a Brooklyn detention center on Wednesday morning, his spokesman said. Before the transfer, Mr. Bankman-Fried, 32, told people close to him that he expected to be moved to a federal correctional facility in Mendota, Calif., a person with knowledge of the matter said. A representative for the Bureau of Prisons declined to comment on Mr. Bankman-Fried, citing “privacy, safety and security reasons.” A spokesman for the prosecutors who oversaw Mr. Bankman-Fried’s case did not immediately respond to a request for comment. In a court filing on Wednesday afternoon, Lewis A. Kaplan, the judge overseeing his case, said the court “recommends” that the Bureau of Prisons keep Mr. Bankman-Fried at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn. The power outage stopped Amtrak and New Jersey Transit trains, an Amtrak spokesman, Jason Abrams, said in an email. The power outage started at 5:05 p.m., Mr. Abrams said, adding that crews were working to restore power. Riders on New Jersey Transit will have their tickets and passes honored on PATH trains, which are running between Manhattan and New Jersey, according to a spokesman for New Jersey Transit. To avoid Penn Station, travelers also may take a ferry to Hoboken, where six New Jersey Transit lines offer service.

CNN —An off-duty police officer was shot at and injured Monday while en route to work in Washington, DC, and two suspects have been taken into custody, the police chief said. The police officer is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith said in a news conference Monday afternoon.
