Christina Applegate was met with a standing ovation when she took to the Emmys stage as a presenter. Applegate was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2021. But she says people don't need to clap every time she does something after her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. "In essence, because of her I'm going to have a better quality of life," Applegate told British Vogue. In February 2023, the actor told the Los Angeles Times that year's SAG Awards would likely be the last awards show she'd attend as an actor.

Now, the show's creator, David Chase, warns that the golden age of TV — that has seen series such as "The Wire" and "Breaking Bad" — may be over as smart shows face an existential threat. As he was working on a script with screenwriter Hanna Fiddell about a prostitute forced into witness protection, Chase told The Times that he was told "the unfortunate truth" that the script was too complicated. After being postponed because of labor strikes in Hollywood, the Emmy Awards returned on Monday night and with the ceremony came what might be the television industry’s biggest fashion show. Though the carpet was gray, there was no shortage of red, a color that also proved quite popular at the Golden Globes this month. (Ms. Waterhouse’s sat beneath her baby bump.) The ceremony was honoring television programs broadcast last year, which gave viewers a chance to catch up with casts like that of “White Lotus” season two. Amid a carpet full of feathers, beads, sequins, diamonds and plenty of well-tailored suits, the following 15 outfits stood out from the rest (for better or worse).

The Emmys Red Carpet Is Finally Here

Television’s big night is finally here. Last summer, one day after the 75th Emmy Award nominations were announced, the Screen Actors Guild voted to strike, postponing the ceremony to January. Both the Golden Globes and last night’s Critics Choice Awards mix the worlds of film and television, but the Emmy Awards gives the small screen its due. Cut to today: Will “Succession” follow its big wins from the Globes tonight? But for now, one of the best things about the back-to-back awards shows is seeing what the celebrities are bringing to the red carpet.

Mayor Fletcher Bowron of Los Angeles welcomed people to the first Emmy Awards ceremony, which was held Jan. 25, 1949, at the Hollywood Athletic Club. Before there was a Peak TV era, before there were performances from Mary Tyler Moore, Cloris Leachman or Julia Louis-Dreyfus, there was Judy Splinters. “Judy Splinters,” a children’s television show hosted by a 20-year-old ventriloquist named Shirley Dinsdale and her puppet — wait for it — Judy Splinters, was nominated for the so-called most popular program at the very first Emmy Awards. All nominated shows had to have been filmed in Los Angeles, and the award show itself was only broadcast on a local station in Los Angeles. “It was so brand-new,” Dinsdale told The Los Angeles Times in 1998.

The voluminous Burberry tote is one of the most famous props used on "Succession," the famed HBO saga of the Roy family dynasty, and it sold at auction Saturday for $18,750. It often parodied the lives of the uber-wealthy, with Logan Roy being a nod to the former Chairman of Fox News, Rupert Murdoch.
