China revises COVID guidelines for entertainment venues
  + stars: | 2022-11-18 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism issued the revised guidelines to travel agencies, entertainment and performance venues. A government statement said local administrators should improve the accuracy of their prevention and control measures and should not shut down entertainment venues down at will. The specific measures are mostly in line with China's latest easing of COVID rules, but could be a bright spot for entertainment and tourism firms that have been hammered by a near three-year strict zero-COVID policy. Places such as KTVs, internet cafes and offline board game venues are allowed to operate under normalised COVID prevention rules in low risk regions, which means as long as they apply certain COVID prevention rules, they can open their business as usual, according to the government. For decades, Silicon Valley tech darlings like Google, Apple, Facebook and Twitter set the gold standard of making it in the tech space. "Clearly layoffs changed the perception of Snap as a choice employer," Chen says, "and we see that same trend throughout large companies. An employer's brand reputation is a big deal for tech workers who know their skills are in-demand: Nearly 90% say an employer's brand is important when they're considering a new job, and nearly 80% wouldn't apply to a higher-paying job at a company with a bad reputation, according to a July survey of 950 people by Dice, a career site for tech workers. So far, as some companies face turmoil in recent weeks, Google, Atlassian, Salesforce and TikTok remain "employers of choice" among tech workers on Blind. Despite layoffs, tech workers still have a lot of options

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Disneyland on Friday added two new characters in wheelchairs to its iconic “It’s a Small World” attraction, saying it wanted a “more accurate representation of diversity around the world.”The animatronic dolls are among some 300 costumed dolls representing singing children from many nations featured in the attraction. Erin Quintanilla, manager of accessibility for the Disneyland Resort, said the designs sought to combine authenticity with the colorful, cheerful style of the original standing dolls. “I teared up when I saw them in the attraction.”Similar dolls will be added next year to “It’s a Small World” rides at Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland Paris. Disney has added characters to “It’s a Small World” in the past. A new “Spirit of America” scene added in 2009 included Woody and other “Toy Story” characters along with dolls in Native American dress.

Rebel Wilson announced the birth of her first child, welcomed via surrogate, on Instagram Monday“Beyond proud to announce the birth of my first child, Royce Lillian, born this past week via surrogate. I can’t even describe the love I have for her, she’s a beautiful miracle!” Wilson, 42, wrote next to a picture of baby Royce in a onesie. The Australian actor went on to thank her “gorgeous surrogate” for helping her become a mom. Wilson concluded her post by saying she can’t wait to dote on little “Roycie.”“I am ready to give little Roycie all the love imaginable. “Thanks for the well-wishes, but we are NOT engaged,” Wilson wrote in her Instagram Story, alongside a now-vanished photo of the couple at Disneyland in California.
The race in California's 45th House district has put a spotlight on its conservative Vietnamese American voter bloc in Little Saigon. Vietnamese American voters have long leaned conservative while the Asian American vote nationwide for decades trended Democratic. Westminster is the first city in the nation to have a Vietnamese American majority on the council, she added. "But what we've seen pretty clearly is that the Vietnamese community is home to diverse political perspectives." From a larger perspective, Joe said, Steel's strategy is short-sighted because it only reaches the immigrant Vietnamese conservative subgroup.

“The new political ecology also provided more incentive for local governments to impose more draconian Covid control measures,” Huang said. Chinese health officials maintain that changing tack now would risk a huge surge in infections and deaths that could overwhelm the country’s fragile health care system. Zhengzhou, a city of 12 million, imposed sweeping lockdown measures last month after identifying dozens of Covid-19 cases. On Wednesday, the Zhengzhou Airport Economy Zone, where the Foxconn plant is located, announced new lockdown measures. As the winter approaches, experts warn that China could be hit by a new wave of infections – and a new cycle of draconian lockdowns.
New Delhi CNN Business —It has been almost three years since Covid-19 first hit China, but the country’s relentless adherence to lockdowns continues to hobble business and the economy. On Wednesday, authorities imposed a seven-day lockdown of the area that houses China’s biggest iPhone assembly factory, in the central city of Zhengzhou. State media has said that many Foxconn workers are among those walking miles on the highways to escape the factory. On Wednesday, Chinese state media outlet National Business Daily said that electric carmaker Nio (NIO) shut down two factories in the eastern city of Hefei because of Covid curbs. Authorities have ramped up Covid restrictions after Xi’s sweeping power grab at the Communist Party Congress last month, and cases are rising.
Magic Kingdom guests are often there for the first time, so that's where the wild stuff happens. I started at Disney World in the fall of 2014 as part of the Disney College Program, where I worked in attractions at Epcot. That December I graduated, so I applied for the Disneyland college program and got to check out the other coast. Magic Kingdom was the only place where I saw crazy things happen. Eva KellerI think it's because Magic Kingdom is the main park.
BEIJING, Oct 29 (Reuters) - Shanghai Disneyland will operate at reduced capacity from Saturday to comply with COVID-19 measures, the resort said in a statement, in another sign of tightening curbs across China as it seeks to contain the spread of coronavirus infections. The amusement park will operate with a reduced workforce on a temporary basis, which will have an impact on the operation of certain attractions, restaurants and shops, it said on its official Wechat account. Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, Disneytown and Wishing Star Park will operate normally, it said. In Beijing, the Universal Resort theme park was shut on Wednesday after at least one visitor tested positive for the coronavirus. As a kid, Jeffrey Schiefelbein loved the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland. People ask how I got into it, and it all goes back to when I was younger and was inspired by the Haunted Mansion ride at Disneyland. I went on the Haunted Mansion ride and started taking thousands of photographs to recreate all the elements from the ride. I wanted it to look like the actual house — not a house with Haunted Mansion memorabilia in it. For the people like me who are obsessed with Disney and the Haunted Mansion.
The restaurant-and-show chain is suing its employees' New Jersey union for allegedly infringing on its trademark by using the Medieval Times name. The union also represents Medieval Times workers at a location in California. Medieval Times, which is privately owned, is seeking an injunction on the infringement and payment from the unionized castle workers for damages, attorney's fees and unjust profits made under the Medieval Times name. Medieval Times Performers United is a subset of a national performers union called the American Guild of Variety Artists. Medieval Times Performers United on Thursday called the complaint a "frivolous lawsuit" and "unlawful thuggery."
Walt Disney has raised the price of tickets to its California theme parks. Disney, like the rest of the US, is battling surging inflation amid the Russian war in Ukraine. Single-park tickets for Disney's Anaheim parks now range from $104 to $179, up from $104 to $164, Deadline first reported. Tier one passes rose from $104 to $115 while tier two tickets saw a 10-dollar increase from $119 to $129. Disney has also raised the price of some of the food and drink at its parks.
The hikes are also happening when there have been questions about how well demand at Disney's theme parks will hold up in the face of persistent inflation and worries of an economic slowdown. The popularity of Genie+ has exceeded management's expectations and helped to boost per capita spending at the theme parks. We think the market is getting this all wrong based on the strength of the company's underlying businesses, especially the highly profitable division that includes theme parks. In the near term, these latest price hikes at the theme parks may point to continued theme park-strength, based on Chapek's August comments to CNBC: "If consumer demand keeps up, we act accordingly." We'll get a more detailed look at how Disney's theme parks did in its fiscal fourth quarter when the company's official quarterly results hit the tape after the Nov. 8 closing bell.

Budgeting for a Disney theme-park vacation just became a bit more complicated. Disney raised the pricing for its Genie+ service, which allows visitors to Walt Disney World Resort in Florida and Disneyland Resort in California to skip the lengthy standby waits for popular rides. Now, the service’s cost will vary day to day, based on how crowded the parks are.
With Maple, parents can create and assign tasks like paying the bills, planning a family trip or birthday party, and doing chores. "The next Martha Stewart is going to be made on Maple," Perry said. For example, a Disney aficionado created a guide for visiting Disneyland that parents planning a trip could find within the Maple app's browser. "Planning the trips, planning for summer camp, planning for Disneyland, planning the week's meals, the college financial planning — whatever they're planning, there is a family in need of that same exact information." The Shopify App Store, which has more than 7,000 apps geared toward online sellers, also provided some inspiration for Perry.
