The remains of an unidentified missile, which Ukrainian authorities claimed to be made in North Korea, is seen at a site of a Russian strike in Kharkiv, Ukraine on January 2. China, Russia and Iran have also held four joint naval drills since 2019, and China is by far Iran’s largest energy buyer. Beijing also carefully manages its relationship with North Korea – which is almost wholly economically and diplomatically dependent on China. “Russia, North Korea, Iran is the type of grouping that China least wants to openly associate itself with,” said Tong Zhao, a senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. I told my mom about it, excited to share how advanced things had gotten since her days of feeding babies. Take, for instance, apps that don't just help parents track the minutiae of baby care but rather track the practice of parenting young children. While marketed as parent-support, most parenting apps are child-centered to the extreme, using the parent as a conduit to deliver a particular parenting approach.

The new national security memorandum, issued in the final months of Biden’s term, seeks to strike a balance between deploying AI’s powerful potential with protecting against some of its fearsome possibilities. For example, the document prohibits use of AI to skirt existing protocols around deploying nuclear weapons. Revealing the new parameters during a speech at the National War College, Biden’s national security adviser Jake Sullivan framed the stakes of managing the rise of AI. Biden administration officials believe rapidly developing AI tools will set off new competition between world powers. While largely developed in the United States, countries like China are swiftly applying the technology in military and civilian settings.

People in the LGBTQIA+ community often use the word partner to describe their relationship to other parties. ‘Boyfriend’ can sound juvenileLike many couples, Rouzer found “boyfriend” an inaccurate description of her close companion. Carey explained that “the relationship escalator” is a concept where couples are expected to follow several steps in a romantic relationship. Even the term “partner” could feel ambiguous since people might not know if you’re talking about a life or business partner. For Rouzer, “partner” is the most appropriate label for her nine-year relationship.

“South Carolina is a great state. Or would a more fitting tribute to Smalls be to recognize the statesman who served in the South Carolina House and Senate and the U.S. House after the Civil War? That’s how Republican Rep. Chip Campsen, an occasional ship pilot himself, sees honoring one of his favorite South Carolinians. While South Carolina has a monument with multiple panels honoring the struggle of African Americans from their journey on slave ships through today, it doesn’t honor an individual Black man or women among the two dozen monuments scattered around the Statehouse. I think it is important that we tell that the right way to honor him and to honor south Carolina.

Morgan Stanley is expanding the use of OpenAI-powered, generative artificial intelligence tools to its vaunted investment banking and trading division, CNBC has learned.
