Now, one of those buildings is struggling, and equity investors risk being wiped out. Crowdfunding platform Yieldstreet, which has helped raise money for the property, recently told its equity investors that their investments could be wiped out. Flow launched in 2022 with investments in six apartment buildings, including the now-troubled Nashville property, and a $350 million check from venture firm Andreessen Horowitz. A Flow spokesperson sought to distance the Miami-based startup from the 2010 West End property, saying that Flow has never managed the building and is only the minority equity owner.

New York City has also seen a surge in bicycling since the pandemic caused many to avoid mass transit and ride shares. And the funding for the Streets Plan — more than $900 million — has already been allocated to DOT. The city streets were designed to maximize vehicle speed rather than to get as many New Yorkers around as efficiently and safely as possible. While New York City streets have generally gotten safer since the city adopted its 'Vision Zero' plan in 2014 to eliminate traffic deaths and serious injuries in 2014, progress hasn't been consistent. CNN —Voters keep telling pollsters that their economic insecurities are the biggest issue in the 2024 election. Former President Donald Trump will try to make a case against Kamala Harris’ role in the Biden economy on Wednesday in North Carolina. President Joe Biden dedicated his domestic agenda to restoring economic fairness and sought to revive manufacturing and repair the country’s crumbling infrastructure. As the effective incumbent in this race, Harris is vulnerable to any sudden shifts in the economic outlook. But with Trump seeking an opening to define her negatively — especially on the economy — Harris must act fast.

A portfolio of stocks booted from indexes would make an investor 74 times wealthier between 1991 and 2023, the research said. Authors Rob Arnott and Forrest Henslee announced the creation of NIXT, a fund that tracks deletions. The firm's founder and investing legend Rob Arnott and vice president Forrest Henslee wrote that stocks dropped by an index outperform for at least five years with remarkable persistence. After being deleted from an index, nixed stocks can outdo the market by an average of 5% a year. When an index decides to remove an asset, it's essentially creating excessive selling momentum, Arnott wrote.

CNBC's Jim Cramer on Monday reviewed what could have lead to last week's massive sell-off, telling investors the declines may have been facilitated by failed market strategies from larger institutions. Japan's stock market also declined sharply, with the Nikkei seeing its worst day since the "Black Monday" crash of 1987. To Cramer, last week's declines might have been caused by money managers from a variety of firms who used Japan's low interest rates to borrow money an invest in other global assets. "We've had so many sell-offs based on mistaken strategies by large institutions," Cramer said. "Let's remember last Monday's selloff and consider that it might've been about nothing more than flailing money managers, which is often the case with these big market meltdowns."

S & P down 5.50% here, headlines of a Nikkei crash, and another great Yen carry unwind happening. I traded for a hedge fund and served as senior technical analyst for an foreign exchange company during the great financial crisis of 2008 that saw a severe yen carry unwind. If the line is headed south the dollar is weakening relative to the yen, and the yen is strengthening relative to the dollar. I believe that the July 11th CPI print that came 0.1% below expectations was the culprit to this whole yen carry unwind. Could this yen carry unwind move further?

U.S. Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris speaks at her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, on July 22, 2024. Vice President Kamala Harris is catching up to former President Donald Trump on the number of voters who trust her handling of the economy, according to a new Financial Times/Michigan Ross poll. The monthly survey found that 42% of voters trust Harris on economic issues, one percentage point more than the Republican presidential nominee. The most recent CNBC All-America Economic Survey, for example, found voters think they will be financially better off under Trump than Harris by a 2-to-1 margin. Trump often seizes on voters' economic pessimism as a political tactic, working to turn economic danger signs into narratives of full-blown catastrophe, attributable to the Biden-Harris administration's policies.

A man convicted in the killing of Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov has been discharged from jail after signing a contract to join the military operation in Ukraine, state-run news agencies TASS and RIA Novosti reported on Saturday. In 2017, a Russian court sentenced five men to prison terms ranging from 11 and 20 years for his murder. Among them was Tamerlan Eskerkhanov, who was convicted as an accomplice and jailed for 14 years. “Eskerkhanov signed a contract with the defense ministry in March 2024, was pardoned, and then released from his penal colony,” TASS cited a source in law enforcement agencies as saying. Russia’s defense ministry has since adopted the tactic, forming its Storm-Z units partly out of convict volunteers recruited directly from prisons.
