WeWork managed to renegotiate 590 leases before filing for bankruptcy, saving about $12.7 billion in future rent payments. WeWork said it is seeking to renegotiate terms on other leases with 400 landlords. U.S. bankruptcy laws gives debtors enormous leverage to walk away from leases, according to Ann Chandler, a real estate attorney. Trump's testimony wrapped up in midafternoon. Over roughly four hours on the witness stand, Trump often avoided direct answers, instead bragging about his properties and his wealth. New York state lawyers said in their lawsuit that the estimates misled lenders and insurers, earning him more than $100 million and exaggerating his wealth by $2 billion. At one point when Trump was on the stand, Engoron asked Kise to take Trump to the back of the courtroom and "explain the rules."

Former President Donald Trump is expected to testify Monday in the $250 million civil fraud trial that threatens to torpedo his family's business empire. New York Attorney General Letitia James seeks to permanently bar Trump and his two adult sons from running a business in the Empire State because, she says, they have engaged in years of financial fraud. Trump insists the financial statements at the heart of the case were never meant to be definitive. Legal experts say that unlike a criminal case, where a defendant opting to take the Fifth cannot be held against them, in a civil case, a judge can draw an adverse inference from a witness' refusal to testify.

In 2016, I was a very broke writer living in New York, mostly stitching together a living through side hustles. When I reached out to RSR about forthcoming work, they told me they were working with Manhattan-based storage space company Manhattan Mini Storage on a series of billboards. They wanted quippy slogans connecting outer space and storage space. The turnaround time was so quick and I needed to keep making money — ideally more than $45 at a time. At that point, I had picked up a summer babysitting gig and was walking toward the subway on Manhattan's West Side Highway when I noticed a billboard from Manhattan Mini Storage.

"The threat of, and actual, violence resulting from heated political rhetoric is well-documented," Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron wrote in a fiery court order Friday afternoon. Trump has violated that gag order twice since the trial began last month. Veralto , the water and packaging quality company, has some interesting long-term prospects as a standalone company that may be worth revisiting down the road. However, Veralto is currently experiencing headwinds due to weakness in China for water quality and lower demand for consumer packaged goods. Systematic long/short hedge funds, as the computer-led strategy is known, posted 4.97% in gains last month, while fundamental long/short went down 0.66%, the bank's prime services team wrote. The systematic funds' performance was driven by asset selection, volatility and some crowned trades. In the case of the fundamental long/short funds, the detractor was their exposure to stock indexes. In the year through October, systematic long/short gained 15.06%, outpacing the 3.14% in profits that fundamental long/short posted. Last month, hedge funds also placed bets that stocks in energy, financials, consumer discretionary and information technology will fall.

The Best Places to Watch the New York City Marathon

The New York City Marathon is a big race for more than 50,000 runners each year, but it is also a community celebration for the New Yorkers who line up along the five-borough course to cheer for the participants. Chris Tempro, a retired New York firefighter, had prepared for the crowds before he ran the marathon in 2021, including writing his name on his shirt so everybody could see it. But the energy and the excitement along the course was beyond anything he had imagined. “As I came down off of the Verrazano Bridge, and into Brooklyn,” Tempro said, he encountered an “incredible party atmosphere, with like thousands and thousands of people cheering and chanting and then calling my name, like for the whole eight miles, nine miles, through Brooklyn.”When the weather, like 2022’s unseasonable warmth, is less than ideal for runners, the crowd support can be even more important. The YouTuber Casey Neistat’s recap of his race last year touched on the importance of a vibrant crowd.
