How much should you tip your barista?

There’s also often an option to leave a custom tip or no tip at all. Although consumers are accustomed to tipping waiters, bartenders and other service workers, tipping a barista or cashier may be a new phenomenon for many shoppers. Others feel guilty if they don’t tip or embarrassed if their tip is stingy. One barista in Washington State said that he understands if a customer doesn’t tip for a drip coffee order. Nearly 60% of Uber customers never tip, while only about 1% always tip, a 2019 University of Chicago study found.
Dec 8 (Reuters) - General Electric Co's (GE.N) healthcare division is aiming to have a medium-term organic revenue growth in the mid-single-digits, the unit's Chief Executive Officer Peter Arduini said at an investor day conference on Thursday. China, which accounts for about 15% of total GE Healthcare sales, would also help drive growth as there is a pent-up demand in the market, Arduini said. GE Healthcare also expects medium-term adjusted core earnings margin to be close to 20%. Zodl highlighted challenges such as macroeconomic factors, supply chain challenges, restructuring action undertaken in 2022 along with planned investment in research and development which may weigh on its core earnings margin. The healthcare company had revenue of around $18 billion last year, with about half of it from recurring sources, GE Healthcare said in a presentation.
DOHA, Dec 2 (Reuters) - Switzerland reached the World Cup knockout phase for the third straight time after prevailing 3-2 over Serbia on Friday to finish runners-up in Group G and set up a last 16 showdown with Portugal. But Switzerland resolutely saw out the win, and finished second in Group G behind Brazil on goal difference. Switzerland have now reached the last 16 of every World Cup and European Championship since 2014 and will meet Group H winners Portugal on Tuesday for a place in the quarter-finals. Serbia, who needed a win to give themselves a chance of advancing, finished bottom of the group with only one point. They have never moved past the World Cup group stage since the break-up of Yugoslavia.
Many who backed the GOP in other races voted for Democrats when the Republican was an election denier. The cynical bid paid off: Literally all the extreme GOP candidates that Democrats boosted failed in the general election. Many people who would otherwise happily vote Republican were unwilling to vote for Trump or those he endorsed. And Trump’s sexist and misogynistic rhetoric alienated Republican voters, men and women alike. Women, for their part, moved toward the GOP, with women of color shifting more than white women.
WASHINGTON, Nov 29 (Reuters) - Top U.S. Democrats said on Tuesday that securing more funding for Ukraine and COVID-19 and passing a full-year spending bill are priorities before Republicans take control of the House of Representatives early next year. Later in the day, top Senate Democrats said passing a full-year spending bill, known as an omnibus, was vital for national security. A commonly floated alternative, known as a continuing resolution, or CR, would effectively freeze spending at current levels. Republicans are split on whether to support an omnibus spending bill or a CR, top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell told reporters. On Ukraine, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy, who attended the talks with Biden, gave a taste of what to expect if he takes over as House speaker as he hopes.
Protests are erupting across China over the country's restrictive zero-COVID policies. Public-health experts say the policies are unsustainable, ineffective, and unnecessarily severe. Without vaccination campaigns targeting older adults, China's lockdowns may only delay a catastrophic COVID wave. Tyrone Siu/ReutersThere is no easy way forward for China, but constant 2020-style lockdowns are not the solution, according to public-health experts, who called the policies unsustainable, ineffective, and irrational. As a result, Huang thinks the zero-COVID lockdowns are completely unwarranted.
The food-tech startup Sauce allows restaurants to use dynamic pricing to raise delivery prices. Piada, a fast-casual restaurant chain, is testing dynamic pricing using the tech startup Sauce. Novak, whose VC firm Rackhouse invested in Sauce last year, said price-lowering features are often overlooked when discussing dynamic pricing. Sherri Kimes, a professor emeritus at Cornell's Hotel School, echoed Novak, saying dynamic pricing can give consumers "some control" over how they spend their money. For restaurants, dynamic pricing is still worth a shot.
Some chief financial officers in the retail sector say markdowns are necessary to start the new year without the drag of excess stock on their shelves. Other CFOs say their companies view the promotional environment as an opportunity to attract more customers. Below is a roundup of retail CFOs’ remarks on this topic during recent earnings calls. All the surveys that we’ve seen would indicate that the value is going to be an important driver for the customer. Historically, we’ve managed a collection of four basic inventory levers: cancellations, [return-to-vendors], push outs and vendor allowances, or VAs.
But as he faces a decision over whether to run for president in 2024, DeSantis shares far more similarities with two other ex-GOP frontrunners: Former Govs. Like DeSantis, Walker and Christie once seemed like inevitable frontrunners for the White House. Walker seized the moment, while Christie let his moment pass. "That's a huge difference in my opinion in terms of that moment," DuHaime said. "There was a moment for Christie in 2012 and there is a moment for Ron DeSantis in 2024.

Home prices could tumble 20% in some of the hottest US markets, top investor Peter Boockvar said. He cited the surge in prices during the pandemic, and soaring mortgage rates pricing out buyers. The Bleakley Advisory boss warned a housing slump could hit consumer spending and the wider economy. "It's an extraordinary rise, and now you have 7% mortgage rates, which are 15-year highs," he said. Paul Krugman, a Nobel Prize-winning economist, has also predicted a housing slump.
Despite Republican hopes for a "red wave" of support in the Nov. 8 elections, they failed to reverse Democrats' razor-thin Senate majority. They appear to be on course to win a narrow House majority, having won 217 of the 218 seats they would need, with 10 still uncalled. Former NFL football star Herschel Walker trailed Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock in Georgia, as the two headed to a Dec. 6 run-off election. But Trump-backed Senate candidates J.D. The populist priorities of his "America First" agenda and his combative political style also helped shape the overall Republican campaign. Save America contributed close to $30 million to political allies and Republican Party accounts, including $20 million in October to a group that ran television ads supporting Republican Senate candidates in Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Arizona and Nevada. But Save America's contributions paled in comparison to spending by the Senate Leadership Fund, or SLF, a leading political action committee aligned with top Senate Republican Mitch McConnell.

Thirty-five Senate seats and all 435 House of Representatives seats are on the ballot. A Republican-controlled House would be able to block bills addressing Democratic priorities such as abortion rights and climate change. A Republican Senate, meanwhile, would hold sway over Biden's judicial nominations, including any Supreme Court vacancy. However, some Democrats in tough races have deliberately distanced themselves from the White House as Biden's popularity languishes. "Democracy is literally on the ballot," Biden said on Sunday at a rally in Yonkers, New York.

On Monday, the city commission of the nearby town of Hobbs is expected to take up a similar measure. Mitchell participated in the city commission meeting by phone. A new Northwestern Mutual study showed that Americans are expecting to save more and work longer to retire comfortably. Respondents to the survey said they'll need at least $1.25 million to retire, according to the report. The study, based on polling of 2,381 American adults, also said that the expected retirement age is up from 62.6 in 2021 to now 64.
