CNN —On Monday July 3, Italian tennis star and Men’s Singles contender Jannik Sinner arrived on the center court at Wimbledon with a custom Gucci duffle bag slung across one shoulder. Sinner became a brand ambassador for Gucci last year. The next generation of tennis players are even experimenting with jewelry: Russian player Andrey Rublev is known to layer several silver pendants, while Nick Kyrgios is rarely seen without his double hoop earrings. The lower of those figures would make Messi the highest-paid player in Major League Soccer (MLS) by over $40 million, according to sports salary tracker Spotrac. According to that site, Xherdan Shaqiri currently earns the most in the league with an annual wage of $8,153,000. June 12 (Reuters) - European shares edged higher on Monday at the start of a week packed with major central bank policy meetings, while shares of Swiss drugmaker Novartis rose after it agreed to buy U.S.-based Chinook. The pan-European STOXX 600 index (.STOXX) rose 0.3% by 0715 GMT. Meetings from the U.S. Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are lined up for the week. The European healthcare sector index (.SXDP) was up 0.6%, while the personal & household sector index (.SXQP) led gains with a 0.9% rise. German sportswear maker Adidas (ADSGn.DE) jumped 3.1% after Bernstein raised its rating on the stock to "outperform" from "market perform".

The multi-trillion dollar fashion industry contributes significant greenhouse gas emissions, between 8% to 10% of total global emissions, according to the United Nations. With the majority of textiles in the fashion industry blended, it is harder to recycle one fiber without harming another. Spinnova partnered with the world's largest pulp and paper company this year, Suzano, to turn wood and waste into recycled textile fiber. Textile waste, by some measures, is a bigger issue than plastics waste, and it has a similar problem. Late last year it worked on a limited collection with fast fashion clothing giant — and consumer consumption flashpoint — Zara, using its recycled textile waste material.

Nike is striking new deals with retailers as brands realize the DTC model isn't all it's cracked up to be. Designer Brands, Macy's, and Foot Locker have each announced expanded relationships with Nike. But, more recently, Nike has expanded partnerships with retailers, including Macy's and DSW owner Designer Brands, the Wall Street Journal reported. In a May presentation, Daniel Heaf, vice president of Nike Direct, said, "People always ask me: Are you a direct business or a wholesale business? Nike's wholesale business grew faster than its direct business between September and November, showing it's still key to the overall business.
