CNN —Detroit Lions star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson was carted off the field with a broken tibia in the team’s 47-9 blowout victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Early in the third quarter, Hutchinson injured himself after sacking Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. As he went to wrap up the QB, his leg collided with a teammate’s leg and he immediately fell to the ground. The Lions would rule him out for the rest of the game with a lower leg injury. Lions running back David Montgomery called Hutchinson’s injury an “unfortunate loss” for the team.

Frustrated small cap investors are turning to companies with profits as the bull market in big cap stocks starts its third year. Not so with the small-cap Russell 2000 : it didn't bottom until October 2023, and is only 35% off the low, still 9% shy of its historic high in November 2021. Including 2024, the S & P 500 has outperformed the small-cap Russell 2000 in 12 of the past 15 years. A similar fund that also tracks the S & P SmallCap 600 Index is the iShares Core S & P Small-Cap ETF (IJR). Other small cap funds with a profitability tilt have also seen strong inflows recently, including the Dimensional U.S. Small Cap ETF (DFAS) and the Avantis Small Cap Value ETF (AVUV).

CNN —Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel says he expects Tua Tagovailoa to play football this season after suffering his latest concussion earlier this year. But after his most recent head injury, McDaniel told reporters on Monday he hopes to see Tagovailoa return to the field this season. There’s still information that he’s seeking this week,” McDaniel said. The Dolphins have struggled in Tagovailoa’s absence, losing twice and winning their most recent game in Week 5 against the New England Patriots. After guiding the Dolphins to the playoffs last season, Tagovailoa agreed to a four-year contract extension in the offseason, reportedly worth $212.4 million.

Close elections always come down to turnout. So the bipartisan polling team behind the NBC News poll, Public Opinion Strategies and Hart Research Associates, devised an experiment. What happens to the ballot test in NBC News’ brand-new national poll when you assume a turnout model that benefits the Democratic Party versus one that favors the GOP? Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are tied on the head-to-head ballot in the new October NBC News poll results, at 48% each. Assuming a turnout model that’s more favorable to Republicans puts Trump ahead by 2 points, 49%-47%.

Ryan Williams’ extraordinary 75-yard touchdown with just over two minutes remained was the decisive score in No. Former tennis superstar Serena Williams even jokingly remarked at how “impressive” her 17-year-old “cousin” has been doing at Alabama. “Whether Ryan ever catches a ball again for the rest of his career, he’s already entrenched himself in Alabama tradition for that play,” Kelly told CNN. It was when the pair reversed roles – Ryan Williams now catching passes – that Kelly, whose office was overlooking the practice field, realized the young athlete’s potential as a receiver. And with Saraland in need of a receiver, Kelly decided to throw Williams in, a decision which ultimately paid dividends.

— In their first and only debate of an unusually competitive Maryland Senate race Thursday, Prince George's County Executive Angela Alsobrooks and former Gov. Larry Hogan sparred over the issue of abortion and whether the deep blue state would be best represented by a staunch Democrat or an anti-Donald Trump Republican. Hogan distanced himself from the former president and current GOP presidential nominee, framing himself as someone willing to put "country over party." Alsobrooks dismissed that frame, arguing that a vote for Hogan would mean a vote for a Senate Republican majority that would threaten abortion rights and support for Ukraine. Hogan criticized Alsobrooks and "both sides" of the aisle for "trying to change the rules so they can pack the court."

A major part of the fears is that the US’ influence with Israel has appeared to be steadily waning over the last year. Israel’s security cabinet has not yet reached a decision on how to proceed, an Israeli official told CNN on Friday. As of last week, Israel had not given any assurances that it would not target Iran’s nuclear facilities, CNN reported. Propagandists seeking to influence elections around the globe have tried to use ChatGPT in their operations, according to a report released Wednesday by the technology’s creator, OpenAI. OpenAI said in its report that this year it has stopped people who tried to use ChatGPT to generate content about elections in the U.S., Rwanda, India, and the European Union. They also used ChatGPT to create social media posts in support of those sites, according to the report. They were part of a larger campaign that repeatedly spammed pro-party posts on X, a documented propaganda campaign that posted messages — often the same few messages — more than 650,000 times. According to OpenAI’s report, they also tried to get ChatGPT to tell them the default login credentials for other companies that provide industrial control systems software.
