New York CNN —In a radical rebranding, Twitter owner Elon Musk has replaced Twitter’s iconic bird logo with X.Musk made the shock announcement of his plans early Sunday. “Interim X logo goes live later today,” he wrote, shortly before sharing a photo of Twitter’s headquarters lit up by a giant new X. Increasing the pressure, earlier this month rival social media platform Threads launched from Facebook (FB) parent Meta. Twitter had 238 million active users prior to being taken private by Musk in October 2022. Musk explained his approach to free speech by saying: “Is someone you don’t like allowed to say something you don’t like?

Twitter's new "X" logo was projected over its San Francisco headquarters two hours after midnight. Some of Musk's other big product launches have been riddled with misfires and blunders. In a strange nocturnal display, Twitter's new logo lit up the facade of the company's San Francisco headquarters a few hours after midnight. At around 2 a.m. EST on Monday, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino gave the world the new X logo: "Lights. And Twitter's cash flow has been negative as a result of that and its heavy debt load. Mike Proulx, research director at Forrester, said on Sunday that the move would further alienate Twitter's original, and once fiercely loyal, user base. The billionaire Musk said in a Sunday post he wanted to change Twitter's logo and polled his millions of followers whether they would favor changing the site's color scheme from blue to black. Twitter has responded to all press inquiries with a single poop emoji since March. Elon Musk tweeted that going forward, Twitter would instead respond with a "We'll get back to you soon" infinite loop. It's the end of an era: Twitter no longer auto-replies to press emails with a single poop emoji. Twitter started the poop emoji auto-reply in March, months after Musk took over the company and executed widespread layoffs that included nearly the entire communications department. Musk tweeted that the new response would be played on an "infinite loop."

Across the country, in Silicon Valley, the situation isn’t quite as good. For decades Silicon Valley has been a dominant contributor to the US economy and an integral part of the country’s culture. Bankruptcy filings…less so.”Pitchbook and The National Venture Capital Association’s most recent report on the industry also takes a pessimistic view of the situation. What it means: While startups are certainly far from extinct, there has been a serious culling in Silicon Valley that will likely continue on for some time. Just 19% of venture capital deals were made with startups based in the Bay Area this year; that’s down from 22% in 2020.

Walter Isaacson said Elon Musk uses multiple tactics when it comes to selecting leaders. He also likes to use skip-level meetings to chat with workers lower on the corporate ladder, Isaacson said. Elon Musk has a special intuition or "neural network" when it comes to picking leaders at his companies, the billionaire's biographer Walter Isaacson said. The biographer said Musk is likely to use skip-level meetings during big projects or ahead of major company events, like a SpaceX Starship test. Elizabeth Warren asks SEC to investigate Tesla

New York CNN —Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren asked the SEC to investigate Tesla and its board of directors to determine whether they violated securities laws after CEO Elon Musk took over Twitter last year. Warren wrote that that disorder has spilled over into Musk’s management of one of the most influential electric car companies in the United States. “Tesla is publicly owned, and Mr. Musk and the Board have responsibilities to shareholders and the public in their management of the company,” Warren wrote. “These close relationships may explain the board’s persistent inability or unwillingness to address the concerns posed by Mr. Musk’s actions,” Warren wrote. Last December, the Democratic senator wrote Tesla shareholders may be hurt by its CEO’s ownership of Twitter in a letter to company chair Robyn Denholm.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., sent a letter urging the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to investigate Tesla and its board of directors over possible "conflicts of interest, misappropriation of corporate assets, and other negative impacts to Tesla shareholders" related to CEO Elon Musk's Twitter takeover. The take-private deal included $13 billion in debt, and Musk reportedly sold billions of dollars worth of his Tesla shares to finance the transaction. In recent weeks, Musk appointed Linda Yaccarino, who previously ran global advertising for Comcast's NBCUniversal, to the role of Twitter CEO. Her hiring stirred hope that Twitter's beleaguered advertising business would soon recover and that Musk would return to focus on Tesla and SpaceX. Tesla is scheduled to report its second-quarter earnings after the bell on Wednesday of this week.

New York CNN —Elon Musk disclosed on Twitter Saturday that, due to a 50% drop in advertising revenue and a “heavy debt load,” the platform still has a negative cash flow. Ad revenue has been a contentious issue and an uphill battle for the site, after hordes of advertisers fled after Musk took over. The New York Times reported that Twitter’s US advertising revenue from the five weeks from April 1 to the first week of May was down 59% year-over-year, citing an internal presentation. “It’s definitely been extremely difficult,” Musk said in Twitter Spaces livestream event Musk hosted with Robert F. Kennedy, Jr last month. On Thursday, Twitter announced content creators would be able to get a slice of the site’s ad revenue, seemingly to encourage more creators to join the site.

July 15 (Reuters) - Twitter's cash flow remains negative because of a nearly 50% drop in advertising revenue and a heavy debt load, Elon Musk said on Saturday, falling short of his expectation in March that Twitter could reach cash flow positive by June. "Need to reach positive cash flow before we have the luxury of anything else," Musk said in a tweet replying to suggestions on recapitalization. It is unclear what time frame Musk was referring to by the 50% drop in ad revenue. He has said Twitter was on track to post $3 billion in revenue in 2023, down from $5.1 billion in 2021. On Thursday, Twitter said that select content creators will be eligible to get a part of the ad revenue the company earns in an attempt to draw more content creators to the site.

"Need to reach positive cash flow before we have the luxury of anything else," Musk wrote in response to a tweet. Musk took over Twitter in October of last year in a deal valued at around $44 billion, including about $13 billion in debt. He also claimed at that time that the company was "roughly breakeven," and expected to become cash flow positive within the next quarter. A number of widely followed accounts on Twitter posted that they were dismayed they did not qualify to earn income from the program yet. It's not clear how much Twitter paid creators in total in this first round of payments.

Advertisers are eagerly watching how Meta's new Threads messaging app develops over the next few months as they look for a new social channel to reach consumers while Twitter continues to struggle. Meta is currently more focused on building the core Threads product as opposed to monetizing the app, Instagram head Adam Mosseri has said in various interviews and a post on Threads. "It's the most instant onboarding experience I've ever experienced in the history of my career, and my entire career has been in social," Tipograph said. Although it was easy for current Instagram users to create Threads accounts, he said, it's unclear how active they will be on the service. Since Threads is so new, it's unclear which kind of audience Threads is attracting, Tipograph said.

Twitter is facing competition from Meta's new Twitter clone called Threads. Elon Musk might be starting to feel the heat of Mark Zuckerberg's new Twitter clone, Threads. According to Platformer's Zoë Schiffer, the Tesla CEO sent an email telling staff that Twitter needs to launch better features faster than ever. The Twitter clone has benefitted from its link to Instagram, which allows it to access the app's 2 billion-plus user base. Over at Twitter, Musk and new CEO Linda Yaccarino have been trying to play down reports that Twitter's traffic has taken a recent hit.

It's been less than a year since he bought it, and Elon Musk's Twitter is already well on its way to suffering a fate worse than death — irrelevance. How you do a turnaroundIn the early days of Musk's Twitter takeover, I told you he was overpaying for the company. Unfortunately for Twitter, Musk is not a traditional turnaround guy. Maybe, to Musk, that's a crusade worth sacrificing the very thing that makes Twitter special. Maybe this is the site Musk wanted in the first place.

Meta employees had relatively low expectations for Threads, the text-based Instagram offshoot that was released Wednesday evening to compete with Twitter. Even Twitter employees were not particularly worried about yet another competitor showing up. He said in his Threads post that the growth was "insane." Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino said the platform had its "largest usage day" in five months. The Twitter higher-ups appear to be concerned by the rapid popularity of Threads. Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino said Monday that last week saw the platform's "largest usage day" since February. That appeared to be a taunt aimed at Threads, the Twitter competitor app released by Meta last Wednesday which is estimated to already have reached 100 million users. This week, Musk tweeted "Zuck is a cuck" and proposed a "literal dick measuring contest."

Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg remain at each others' throats following the launch of Threads. The squabble has ramped up a notch after Twitter threatened to take Meta to court over Threads. It's getting a bit pitiful for Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg as their feud continues to escalate, following the launch of Threads. In Musk's case, Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino should bring a level-headedness that her colleague is clearly lacking. These include hashtags, a "following" feed, and a messaging function, which means Threads is still a skeletal project.

New York CNN —Facebook-parent Meta on Wednesday officially launched its Twitter competitor, Threads, after first confirming its plans for the app just three months ago. And for Meta, Threads could further expand its empire of popular apps and provide a new platform on which to sell ads. Similar to Twitter, users can reply to, repost and quote others’ Threads posts. Frequent technical issues and policy changes have sent some noteworthy Twitter users heading for the exits. For Meta, Threads could be a way of eking additional engagement time out of its massive existing user base.
