LONDON — King Charles III has expressed “deep love and affection” for Australia, a former part of the British Empire. Charles, 75, is Britain’s first reigning monarch to visit Australia in 13 years. The royal visit to Australia includes a Monday reception at Parliament House in Canberra, the capital, where the king will meet with Albanese. King Charles and Queen Camilla are greeted upon their arrival at Sydney International Airport on Friday. King Charles is projected on the Sydney Opera House ahead of his official visit on Friday.

A Texas man accused of strangling his pregnant wife is being held on $1 million bond in the capital murder case. Houston officials say Lee Gilley, 38, killed his wife, Christa Gilley, 38 at their home on Oct. 7. Police were called to the couple’s house on a report of a suicide and found the woman “unresponsive," officials said. The autopsy also revealed Ms. Gilley was about eight weeks pregnant,” police said. Lee Gilley was arrested Oct. 11 and remains in the Harris County Jail on $1 million bond, according to jail records.

Like Texas, Georgia spent much of the last 30 years boasting a past national championship and a campus in a recruiting-rich part of the country, with little modern success to show for it. The quarterback of the Bulldogs’ back-to-back championship teams was not a former high-star recruit but he did grow up in Georgia. In the decade before Sarkisian’s hiring, Texas recruiting classes finished with an average rank of 10.8 in the country; in three recruiting classes under Sarkisian, Texas has averaged a ranking of 4.6. In the eyes of Texas fans, the Longhorns won’t qualify as fully back until they win the program’s first football national championship since 2006.
