A new piece of music believed to be penned by Frédéric Chopin has been discovered in the vault of a New York museum nearly 200 years after it was first written. HONG KONG — A key piece of a little-told chapter of World War II history almost ended up in a landfill. That diary is now believed to be the only known primary source documenting the involvement of Chinese naval officers in the D-Day landings at Normandy. The 24 British-trained Chinese naval officers were forced to choose between the two sides, with many of them going on to have distinguished careers in the Chinese or Taiwanese militaries. CNN —The North Carolina Court of Appeals on Tuesday unanimously rejected a Republican bid to have election officials segregate overseas ballots cast by people who have never resided in the state for additional checks of the voters’ eligibility. The court’s decision is the latest blow to Republican efforts to attack overseas ballots in critical battleground states. Earlier Tuesday, a federal judge in Pennsylvania dismissed a challenge to the vetting procedures for overseas ballots in that state. And last week, a state judge in Michigan sided against the GOP in a case targeting ballots cast by people who had never lived there but were eligible to vote in the state because of familial ties to it. Though North Carolina’s policy of accepting ballots from overseas voters has been on the books for several years, starting in 2016, civilian voters abroad began outnumbering the military vote overseas – which itself is not as conservative as it once was.

The U.S. Federal Reserve won't cut interest rates as much as markets expect because "embedded inflation" is too high, Blackrock CEO Larry Fink said Tuesday, speaking at a CEO-studded panel in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Biden administration's legislation, such as the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, have pushed those efforts forward. "Today, I think we have governmental policies that are embedded inflationary, and, with that being said, we're not gonna see interest rates as low as people are forecasting," Fink said. Bezos's Blue Origin is working with NASA and the Pentagon as it plays catch-up with Musk's SpaceX. CNN —Dwyane Wade’s status as a Miami Heat legend was further cemented on Sunday as the franchise unveiled an eight-foot statue of the three-time NBA champion. The 42-year-old played 16 seasons in the NBA and was selected as an All-Star 13 times before retiring in 2019. One comment on an Instagram video of the unveiling said that the statue better resembled Laurence Fishburne as ’Morpheus’ from the movie ‘The Matrix’ than Wade. Fans criticized the likeness of the statue although Wade himself didn't seem too bothered and was relishing the moment. Tyrese Haliburton led the way for the Pacers with 22 points but still looks a long way off last season’s form.

It was exactly the kind of rhetoric that the Harris campaign believes could prompt moderate voters and disaffected Republicans to choose the vice president. Harris was in red-state Texas on Friday to highlight hardline GOP abortion policies she warns could spread countrywide if Trump wins. The CNN Poll of Polls shows no clear leader nationally with Harris at 48% and Trump at 47%. Harris’ rally will provide an emphatic exclamation point for an increasingly important theme of her campaign — that Trump represents an existential threat to American democracy. Both Trump and Harris are targeting strategic sectors of their core electorates in the final days.
