The Mumbai magician gave another clinic in range-hitting as he blasted an unbeaten 61 off 25 balls in the 71-run trouncing that booked India a semi-final against England. His strike rate of 193.96 leaves everyone in the shade, though, and will give England's bowlers plenty of food for thought ahead of Thursday's semi-final in Adelaide. It left India's huge army of supporters jumping in the terraces and coach Rahul Dravid reaching for superlatives. "Scoring at a strike rate that he does, it's not easy to be consistent," Dravid told reporters. Dravid said India could make changes for the England showdown depending on the Adelaide pitch but the team's mindset would remain consistent.
India moved to top of Group 2 with six points, one ahead of South Africa who have played one game fewer. Litton gave Bangladesh a rollicking start scoring 56 of his team’s 60 runs in the first six powerplay overs. He raced to a 21-ball fifty before rain halted play with Bangladesh on 66 for no loss after seven overs. “It’s been the story when we play India. “It was a great game, the crowd enjoyed and both teams enjoyed.
AHMEDABAD, Oct 30 (Reuters) - Hundreds of people fell into a river when a suspension bridge in India's western Gujarat state collapsed on Sunday and a number of them have been hurt, officials said. More than 400 people were on the bridge in the town of Morbi at the time and were plunged into the Machchu River, local TV channel Zee News said. "People fell in the river and there are casualties. Footage broadcast by the TV channel showed dozens of people clinging onto the cables of the collapsed bridge as emergency teams sought to rescue them. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is in his home state Gujarat for a three-day visit, said he has directed the state chief minister to mobilise teams urgently for the rescue operation.
Twitter staffers feared mass layoffs after Musk fired several top execs. It also didn't take long for speculation to begin about possible layoffs at the company — and for far-right trolls to celebrate with racist tweets. The world's richest man and Tesla CEO tweeted "let the good times roll" on Friday, his first full day as Twitter owner. Needless to say, the first day of Twitter's Musk rule was chaotic. Musk didn't rein in far-right response, nor were fears of mass layoffs tempered within the company.
"I felt there was something left in me to build a zero-to-one startup," said Sukemasa Kabayama, the co-founder and CEO of Uplift Labs. The opportunity to work for not just one but two tech giants was "very rewarding" for Sukemasa Kabayama. I was thinking, it would be much more exciting to really build something from scratch, from the ground up. “The Gandhis today are completely dwarfed and overshadowed by Narendra Modi,” said New Delhi-based political commentator Arati R. Jerath. Bettmann Archive/Getty imagesShe was elected prime minister from 1966 to 1977, and again in 1980. But with the ascendance of a new wave of right-wing politics, their party now lurks in the political wilderness, analysts say. Prime Minister Narendra Modi gives a victory speech after winning India's general election, in New Delhi on May 23, 2019. But it seems unlikely he will ever become prime minister of the country, like his father, grandmother and great-grandfather before him.
NEW DELHI, Oct 19 (Reuters) - India's opposition Congress party on Wednesday declared veteran leader Mallikarjun Kharge its new chief, the first person from outside the influential Nehru-Gandhi family to hold the beleaguered party's presidency in 24 years. Kharge, an 80-year-old from the lowest rung of India's caste system, is seen as a Gandhi family loyalist. "This symbolic change of the president is a very powerful moment for the Congress," Sircar said. Rahul Gandhi, speaking shortly before the party election result was announced, told reporters the new leader would call the shots. "The Congress president is the supreme authority in the Congress party ... Every member reports to them."
BALLARI, India, Oct 17 (Reuters) - Members of India's opposition Congress party voted on Monday to elect its first head in nearly 25 years from outside the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty of leaders, with a veteran loyal to the family expected to win. "We are strongly supporting Kharge and expect he will get 80% to 90% of the votes of party delegates," Ajay Kumar Lallu, a Congress delegate from the most populous state of Uttar Pradesh, told Reuters. "Kharge represents the ideology of the party, has the support of the senior leadership, and is likely to work by taking along party workers," Lallu added. He was speaking as Congress's Bharat Jodo Yatra, or march to unite India, arrived in the district of Ballari in the southern state of Karnataka. Kharge has said he was seeking the "support of the delegates to strengthen Congress for a better India".
BALLARI,India, Oct 15 (Reuters) - India's main opposition Congress party held a huge public rally in the southern Indian state of Karnataka on Saturday, accusing the government of not doing enough to contain inflation and create promised jobs for young people. GUWAHATI, India—One of the most powerful political figures in the northeastern state of Assam spent two decades rising through the ranks of the Indian National Congress. But now Himanta Biswa Sarma governs his home state as a member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. Mr. Sarma says he left Congress after losing faith in the party’s direction under Rahul Gandhi , the scion of the country’s once powerful political dynasty. In the seven years since he left, Mr. Sarma has ascended to the state’s top job—the role of chief minister—and has helped the BJP gain control of the state.
There has been evidence that the omicron variant tends not to burrow deeply into the lungs as much as previous variants. How quickly do omicron symptoms appear? What is the duration of omicron symptoms? Although much about the omicron variant remains unknown, some experts say it could lead to long Covid, even with mild cases. The BA.5 omicron subvariant accounted for nearly 80% of new Covid cases as of Oct. 8, according to the CDC.
Hundreds of University of Florida students held protests this week criticizing the anticipated appointment of Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., to lead the school. Sasse has said that as university president, he would do his best to represent the views of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer students. But for some, his candidacy has called to mind the university’s anti-LGBTQ history and the extent to which many of them feel it continues to sideline their needs and experiences, four LGBTQ students told NBC News. The university’s LGBTQ+ Affairs office, for example, has a high staff turnover rate, he said. He said a “silver lining” of the protests was that many LGBTQ students made their concerns more widely known.
As interest rates rise, big tech companies are being pushed to cancel projects and rearrange staff. Rising interest rates have focused investors on short-term profitability and companies like Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Snap are responding. This trimming signals the start of a new era for Big Tech, one where runaway spending on tomorrow gives way to unrelenting attention on today. In this era, Big Tech will become more efficient and profitable, but also more vulnerable. These startups' funding sources are drying up and many don't yet have good business discipline, taking some heat off Big Tech.

REUTERS/Anushree FadnavisNEW DELHI, Sept 26 (Reuters) - India's main opposition Congress party is likely to elect a new party president from outside the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty for the first time in nearly 25 years, as it looks for a reset ahead of the next election to compete with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Many senior Congress leaders have quit to form their own party or to join the BJP, blaming the weak Congress leadership of Rahul Gandhi, the son of ailing party president Sonia Gandhi, who took charge temporarily in 2019. Sonia Gandhi, the widow of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, led the party uninterrupted for nearly two decades until 2017. Rahul Gandhi, who took over from her but resigned in 2019 following the drubbing by Modi's party, has declined to stand in the party election.
A Cataldo Ambulance medic holds used doses of naloxone after medics revived a man in his 40's who was found unresponsive from an opioid overdose in the Boston suburb of Salem, Massachusetts, U.S., August 9, 2017. REUTERS/Brian SnyderWASHINGTON, Sept 23 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden will announce on Friday nearly $1.5 billion to fund access to medications for opioid overdoses, sanctions against traffickers, and increased funding for law enforcement, the White House said. The Biden administration is keen to show it is taking action on a worsening nationwide opioid crisis, which according to U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data fueled more than 107,000 drug overdose deaths in 2021, a nearly 15% increase from the previous year. Biden will announce nearly $1.5 billion in grants from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to states, tribal lands and territories, said Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary for mental health and substance use. The funds will go toward treating substance-use disorders and removing barriers to key tools like naloxone, a medication that can reverse opioid overdoses, Delphin-Rittmon said.

Not only does it come in three sizes, but it is also exceptionally adjustable (think seat height, seat tilt, lumbar support and armrests). It’s an especially chic white ergonomic office chair option, but if you’re not loving the leatherette, spring for Italian leather instead (about $200 more). So Via, a Las Vegas-based manufacturer of commercial office furniture, introduced a handful of their made-in-the-U.S. ergonomic chairs to the home market. “It has been the greatest decision,” the designer says of her Herman Miller ergonomic chair. In a perfect world, you’ll find an ergonomic chair with adjustable armrests, but your desk can provide that arm support too.
