Slick Bournemouth outclass struggling Everton again
  + stars: | 2022-11-12 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +3 min
BOURNEMOUTH, England, Nov 12 (Reuters) - Bournemouth thumped Everton for the second time this week as goals from Marcus Tavernier, Kieffer Moore and substitute Jaidon Anthony gave them a 3-0 win at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday in their final Premier League game before the World Cup. The result lifted Bournemouth up to 13th on 16 points and piled the pressure on Frank Lampard, with his Everton side hovering one point above the relegation zone in 17th after an alarming slide in form. The boys maintained it for 90 minutes," interim Bournemouth manager Gary O'Neil said. Seven minutes later, Pickford parried Philip Billing's volley and Tavernier nodded the rebound back across goal, where Moore out-muscled Everton defender Vitaliy Mykolenko to power it over the line. Biden is trying to reassure Beijing but also trying to deter them from using military force to coerce Taiwan." Biden, however, has gone further, repeatedly asserting that he would respond to a Chinese invasion by committing US troops. For China, the Taiwan threat gives them negotiating leverage with the US and influence over Taiwan's domestic politics. If Congress passes the Taiwan Policy Act, Taiwan will get $6.5 billion in taxpayer money to buy more US-made weaponry. The sanctions that would likely follow an invasion of Taiwan would quickly and severely restrict the country's supply of meat.

Her company creates skincare products for chronic conditions that can be difficult to treat and contribute to lower self-esteem. That means she provides more context to give investors a deeper understanding of the market for skincare products, especially within communities of color.
GOP Rep. Lauren Boebert is locked in a razor-tight race for her political survival, trailing her opponent by just 64 votes. Meanwhile, Boebert shared a meme on Twitter on Thursday and said 'Jesus is Lord.' Frisch, who is a businessman and former city councilman, leads Boebert by a mere 64 votes, according to data from Insider's elections partner Decision Desk HQ. ET Wednesday night, the most recent update, Frisch leading Boebert by just .01%. But we need resources to get the ballots cured, get us through to the end, and defeat Lauren Boebert."
Rakoczy then pressed him, asking if he'd tapped into Oath Keepers funds "quite a bit" to cover personal expenses. Rhodes, who remained outside the Capitol, testified that he thought it was "stupid" for Oath Keepers members to enter the building. From the Oath Keepers' founding, the group was focused on "forceful opposition to the government, isn't that right?" In her questioning, she also noted that the Oath Keepers provided ammunition for AR-15 rifles during the 2014 standoff at the Bundy Ranch. For Rakoczy, Rhodes' preferred image of the Oath Keepers was belied by his own messages with fellow members.
A second-half goal by Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Mikel Arteta's side their 11th win in 13 league games and they have now beaten Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Chelsea. Gabriel's 63rd minute toe-poke by Gabriel was enough to lift Arsenal to 34 points from 13 games. "We're not in a fantastic moment as we speak and in the end Arsenal deserved to win because they were the better team overall," Potter said. But despite constant pressure they could not equalise as Liverpool held on for their first away league win of the season. Tottenham are in fourth place with 26 points from 14 games while Liverpool rose to eighth with 19 points.
Gabriel goal at Chelsea sends Arsenal back to the top

LONDON, Nov 6 (Reuters) - A 63rd-minute toe-poke on the goal line from Brazilian defender Gabriel earned Arsenal a 1-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and lifted them back to the top of the Premier League. Gabriel, lurking at the far post, got on the end of a Bukayo Saka corner that flew past a line of Chelsea defenders. Arsenal, pressing hard and moving the ball at pace, had the better of a highly-charged London derby but were profligate in front of goal, with Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli and Ben White missing chances against Graham Potter's side. Chelsea's best efforts came on the counter-attack but they could produce only half-chances for Kai Havertz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling. A Republican is going to win the Alaska Senate race, but that hasn’t stopped Mitch McConnell from plowing millions of dollars into the deep-red state. Herschel Walker, the Senate candidate in Georgia backed by both Trump and McConnell, also says he would back McConnell. Apart from Tshibaka, Senate Republican candidate Don Bolduc in New Hampshire has said he would vote against McConnell for leader. (The Republican senator who requested anonymity voiced surprise at McConnell’s prediction and thought it betrayed some nervousness on his part. Although he voted to acquit Trump, McConnell called him “practically and morally responsible” for the assault on the Capitol.

Twitter’s new “Chief Twit” spent the weekend tweeting — and it’s still not much clearer what Elon Musk will do with his new company. He denied a report from The New York Times that he planned to make major layoffs Monday ahead of a date when many Twitter employees receive stock grants. Musk has surrounded himself with Silicon Valley veterans, some of whom have criticized Twitter’s moderation work. Later, he appeared to poke fun at his deleted tweet while also taking a swipe at The New York Times. “This is fake — I did *not* tweet out a link to The New York Times!” Musk wrote alongside a screenshot of the Times’ coverage of his deleted tweet.
On Jan. 6, 2021, Young said he entered the U.S. Capitol with a group of fellow Oath Keepers with the aim of trying to disrupt proceedings to certify Biden's win. Young's testimony was the latest evidence presented by federal prosecutors in the criminal trial against Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes and his four co-defendants - Jessica Watkins, Thomas Caldwell, Kenneth Harrelson and Kelly Meggs. Young is the second Oath Keeper member so far to testify for the government after pleading guilty, in the hopes of winning a reduced prison sentence. I haven’t heard you articulate an actual agreement with anybody to commit a crime,” Rhodes' attorney, James Lee Bright, said. Reporting by Sarah N. It is hard to imagine anything more central to the House’s constitutional role than thoroughly investigating an attempt to overthrow the government by force. The Trump subpoena clearly aids that function. In other words, simply by going to court, Trump can most likely ensure that he never has to comply. If Trump is allowed to sue to quash the subpoena, the courts in effect substitute their judgment for Congress's. That is not their constitutional role.
Anyone on his team who agreed to a debate should be fired, or never work again, because that debate may have tanked his campaign,” said Chris Kofinis, a veteran Democratic campaign strategist. And Fetterman’s campaign, eager to project strength, said Wednesday that it had raised $2 million since the debate ended“There’s always second-guessing,” Sen. But another top Pennsylvania Democrat, who believes Fetterman’s debate performance was devastating and requested anonymity to offer candid thoughts on the party’s nominee, fears the race is over.
Homuth had to find a brand new fiber and build her own supply chain to create Sheertex tights. At least that's what SRTX founder and CEO Katherine Homuth, whose core product line is Sheertex tights, thought back in 2017. Before founding SRTX, Homuth had gained tons of supply chain experience starting another company in 2011 called ShopLocket, which focused on ecommerce sales support. It took another year-and-a-half, but by the end of 2019, Sheertex tights were finally as comfortable as Homuth had originally intended. These days, Homuth is focused on expanding SRTX's product line, so that the company is known for more than just making Sheertex tights.
Tim Cook got the honor of waving the checkered flag at Formula One's United States Grand Prix Sunday. People across the world of F1 were quick to roast for his apparent lack of enthusiasm however. "Possibly the worst checkered flag-waving in Formula One history," one prominent commentator said. Cook became the latest in a long line of well-known figures to signal the end of an F1 race by waving the checkered flag, joining the likes of David Beckham and Serena Williams. Sky Sports commentator Ted Kravitz also chimed in, calling it "possibly the worst checkered flag-waving in Formula One history."

LEEDS, Oct 23 (Reuters) - Leeds United sank to a 3-2 defeat at home to Fulham in the Premier League on Sunday, leaving them in the relegation zone and heaping more pressure on coach Jesse Marsch. Leeds, who are without a league win since August, are 18th in the standings on nine points after a fourth consecutive defeat. Fulham also wasted two clear efforts but took the lead in the 74th minute when full-back Bobby Decordova-Reid headed in another cross from Pereira. The goal led to Leeds fans quickly turning on American coach Marsch, some chanting "You're getting sacked in the morning". CNN —Closing arguments are underway in the civil sexual misconduct trial against Kevin Spacey, stemming from allegations made by actor Anthony Rapp. Attorney Richard Steigman began by presenting a closing argument for Rapp in the New York courtroom on Thursday morning. Spacey, who finished testifying earlier this week, told the jury Rapp’s allegations were not true. “I was being encouraged to apologize and I’ve learned a lesson which is never apologize for something you didn’t do,” Spacey testified on Monday. Before ending his time on the stand last week, Rapp’s attorney Peter Saghir asked the actor if he had been lying about his allegations against Spacey.
As in Danchenko’s trial, Durham failed to convict Sussmann of making false statements to the FBI. And therein lies the reason underlying Durham’s losing trial record. On Monday, during Durham’s closing argument against Danchenko, the special prosecutor made a point of rebuking the FBI’s 2016 investigation. The Hartford Courant reported her concern about “pressure from Barr ... to produce results before the election.”Durham, however, stuck with Barr. And Barr’s energetic attempts after Jan. 6 to rehabilitate his image cannot erase his sad final legacy as a Trump enabler.

CNN —Actor Kevin Spacey will testify in the sexual misconduct trial against him, his attorney said in court Monday. Earlier Monday, attorneys for actor Anthony Rapp finished presenting their case against Spacey. He is suing Spacey for assault, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Spacey’s attorneys have attempted to poke holes in Rapp’s claims by pointing to discrepancies, including dates Rapp alleged to have run into Spacey at industry events. Before ending his time on the stand, Rapp’s attorney Peter Saghir asked the actor if he had been lying about his allegations against Spacey.
In an old clip from 2009, Oz told late-night host Jimmy Kimmel about his "fascination" with needles. Oz said he tried to stick a needle in his sister's head when they were children. "I have to say, you might be one of the craziest people we've ever had on the show," Kimmel told Oz. It's unclear which of Oz's sisters the senate candidate was referring to in the old Kimmel clip. Kimmel also called Oz a "testicle fondler" for touching his crotch during a segment on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!"
Those kids are now young adults, and that state of South Asian comedy looks far different than it did 10 years ago. “The South Asian people I grew up with, we were all collectively embarrassed of our culture and background,” said Ayaon Yadav, 21. CNN —Jennifer Keller, a lead attorney representing Kevin Spacey in the sexual misconduct lawsuit filed by Anthony Rapp, has tested positive for Covid-19. Keller tested positive Thursday morning and is symptomatic, US District a judge Lewis Kaplan told the court. Clinical and forensic psychologist Lisa Rocchio is on direct examination by Rapp’s legal team and is expected to be their final witness. Spacey’s attorneys have attempted to poke holes in Rapp’s claims, among them, that Lupita Nyong’o’s New York Times op-ed is what inspired him to come forward with his allegations to Buzzfeed in 2017. Spacey’s legal team has also pointed to discrepancies between Rapp’s claims, including dates he ran into Spacey at industry events.
The Real Asian-American Race Issue
  + stars: | 2022-10-11 | by ( William Mcgurn | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: 1 min
In a key California House race, the Republican and Democratic candidates have each accused the other of anti-Asian racism. That may not be surprising in a district where the Los Angeles Times says Asian-Americans enjoy a slight plurality (37%). What is surprising is that the candidates accusing each other are Asian-Americans. The Republican is Michelle Steel , who was born in South Korea after her parents fled communist North Korea and spent part of her childhood in Japan. Her campaign accused her Democratic opponent, Jay Chen , of racism after he appeared to poke fun at her accent during a campaign stop in April.
CNN —It’s not that Steve-O wants to die. And I say he was young, he looked great, he’d never been in any financial distress, he was on top of the world,” Steve-O explains. And I was mad at the idea of dying – like, not only am I gonna die young having failed, but like, everybody’s gonna die,” he says. “It’s a book of wisdom, which I’ve gleaned from clearly a lifetime of terrible decisions,” he says, laughing. The idea at work in the book, he says, is to help, but also poke fun and the ridiculousness of him being a self-help author.
