Tiger Global Management, which has offices in Midtown Manhattan, had been shrinking its exposure to Chinese equities, concentrating on a smaller set of companies. Longtime China investor Tiger Global Management has hit pause on investing in Chinese equities, said people familiar with the matter, as the firm reassesses its exposure to the world’s second-largest economy after President Xi Jinping cemented his control over the country. Tiger executives, including founder Charles “ Chase” Coleman , have told others that Mr. Xi’s reelection and his stacking of the Communist Party’s leadership with loyalists at the recent party Congress could increase geopolitical tensions and means the country’s Zero-Covid policy will likely continue, the people said.
NEW YORK, Nov 2 (Reuters) - Donald Trump and his namesake company have settled a lawsuit by protesters who said his security guards violently attacked them while they were demonstrating outside Trump Tower in September 2015 over his statements about immigration. Trump, the Trump Organization and the plaintiffs agreed to dismiss the seven-year-old lawsuit over the alleged assault in a joint filing on Wednesday with a New York state court in the Bronx. The Sept. 3, 2015, incident at Trump Tower in midtown Manhattan occurred 2-1/2 months after Trump, while announcing his first White House run, complained about immigrants being sent to the United States by Mexico. "They're bringing drugs, they're bringing crime, they're rapists," Trump said. Like some other lawsuits against Trump, the protesters' case was delayed in part because Trump was president.
How to Survive on New York’s Subways

For my dad, a common one is “always keep your head on a swivel,” meaning be aware of your surroundings. Since moving to New York City this fall, it’s one I’m hearing more often. Last week two officers from the New York City Police Department standing by the turnstiles at a Midtown Manhattan station handed me a pamphlet. It was titled “Personal Safety Tips,” issued by the NYPD’s Community Affairs Bureau. Inside, it had several categories, like “PURSE/WALLET SAFETY” and “WALKING—BE STREET SMART,” with corresponding guidance.

Workers at the Starbucks and Amazon Go store in midtown Manhattan filed a petition for a union election on Friday. It's the first cafe that uses Amazon's cashierless technology to try to unionize under Workers United and just the second of its kind. The store, which is located next to Port Authority and on the ground floor of the New York Times building, generates high volume but also has high employee turnover, according to Starbucks Workers United. Amazon Labor Union won its first election this spring, unionizing a warehouse on New York's Staten Island.
I started at CNBC in September 2020, and like everyone else on my team, I was working remotely. I interacted with my coworkers over Slack and Zoom, and it was months before I saw any of them from the shoulders down. For another, NBCUniversal asked that their employees begin returning to the office — three days a week in the case of my team. "The fear is out of sight, out of mind," says Stacie Haller, a career expert at ResumeBuilder.com. "You want to make sure you're in the mix and on an even playing field with your co-workers."
Actor Cuba Gooding Jr. resolved his New York City forcible touching case Thursday with a guilty plea to a lesser charge and no jail time after complying with the terms of a conditional plea agreement reached in April. Gooding, 54, faces no additional penalties and, by replacing his misdemeanor plea with a plea to a noncriminal violation, he will not have a criminal record. Gooding pleaded guilty in April to a misdemeanor charge that he forcibly kissed a worker at a New York nightclub in 2018. Judge Curtis Farber earlier had ruled if the Gooding case went to trial, prosecutors could have called two additional women to testify about their allegations that Gooding also violated them. Along with the criminal case, Gooding is accused in a lawsuit of raping a woman in New York City in 2013.

Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan asked an appeals court in Washington to weigh in on whether the laws of that district shielded Trump from liability. Carroll sued Trump in November 2019, and had been hoping to go to trial as soon as next February. On Sept. 20, Kaplan said Carroll planned to sue Trump for battery and inflicting emotional distress even if the defamation claims were thrown out. 'WE DO NOT PASS JUDGMENT'Trump claimed he was shielded from Carroll's lawsuit by a federal law immunizing government employees from defamation claims. That would have ended Carroll's case, because the United States had not waived its immunity from defamation claims.

REUTERS/Jonathan Ernst/File PhotoNEW YORK, Sept 27 (Reuters) - A federal appeals court on Tuesday stopped short of declaring Donald Trump immune from author E. Jean Carroll's defamation lawsuit, saying it needed guidance on whether Trump was acting as U.S. president when he denied raping her. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan asked an appeals court in Washington to weigh in on whether the laws of that district shielded Trump from liability. The Manhattan court also handed Trump a victory in declaring he was a U.S. government "employee" when he allegedly defamed Carroll, a condition underlying his immunity claim. Roberta Kaplan, a lawyer for Carroll, said in a statement she was "confident" the District of Columbia court would let the case proceed.
AB CEO Seth Bernstein spoke with Insider recently about the active asset manager's plans. Portfolio managers of active ETFs are actively overseeing a basket of securities, while typical passive ETFs track indices. Branded black water bottles promoting the new products read: "AB ETFs. Its first two ETFs are fixed income products — the AB Ultra Short Income ETF and the AB Tax-Aware Short Duration Municipal ETF. "We will continue to diversify the platform into private alts," Bernstein said during the Morgan Stanley conference in June.
Bridgewater Associates founder Ray Dalio said on Wednesday that stocks are likely to fall further. Given his down outlook, Dalio was asked how investors should approach the current environment, and gave two answers. The former shields investors from rising or falling inflation rates, while nominal bonds can lose money when considering inflation. Dalio also recommended that investors keep their portfolios well-balanced and diversified, and avoid timing the market. "The most important thing that you can do is have a well-balanced portfolio, not to market time, but diversify," Dalio said.
The reality-TV star rose to fame on "Million Dollar Listing New York" as an agent to the wealthy. It's a habit he's had since the early days of "Million Dollar Listing New York." These "gray market" sellers aren't paying taxes like regulated cannabis companies. On the streets of New York City, it feels as if the cannabis market is already in full swing. While cannabis is legal to possess and consume in New York, businesses need licenses to sell cannabis in the state. Unlicensed cannabis sales continue to compete with regulated cannabis companiesIn states and countries that have already legalized cannabis for recreational use, regulated cannabis companies have struggled to compete against their illicit counterparts. In Canada, which legalized cannabis in 2018, the rollout of the legal market was plagued by supply-chain issues and persistent illicit sales, as Insider reported.

With the term “personal taxes,” however, Mr. Garten appears to be conflating income taxes with other federal taxes Mr. Trump has paid — Social Security, Medicare and taxes for his household employees. Fragments of Mr. Trump’s tax returns have leaked out before. Mr. Agalarov’s father, Aras, a billionaire who boasts of close ties to Mr. Putin, was Mr. Trump’s partner in the event. Mr. Trump’s avoidance of income taxes is one of the most striking discoveries in his tax returns, especially given the vast wash of income itemized elsewhere in those filings. When they got to line 56, the one for income taxes due, the amount was the same each year: $750.
Murdoch family, 1987: Lachlan, James, Anna and Rupert. The second season of HBO’s “Succession,” whose fictional media family, the Roys, bears a striking resemblance to the Murdochs, airs this summer. ‘A press dictatorship’To understand how the Murdoch empire works, it is essential to return to its origins. The bigger Murdoch’s empire became, the more power he had to clear away obstacles to further its expansion. Like his father, Lachlan considered the idea of meddling with such an important profit driver a form of madness.

Tucker Carlson is remembered as a provocateur and gleeful contrarian by those who knew him in his early days. It was Tucker Carlson. (Note on style: Tucker Carlson and the members of his family are referred to here by their first names to avoid confusion.) In 1979, Richard Carlson married Patricia Swanson, heiress to the Swanson frozen foods empire that perfected the frozen Salisbury steak for hassle-free dinners. Tucker Carlson attended St. George’s School, a boarding school starting at age 14.
