Under Trump, the U.S. Department of Education is likely to abandon its efforts to deliver wide-scale student loan relief , experts say. It has done so mostly by improving existing student loan relief programs that had long been plagued by problems, including the Public Service Loan Forgiveness initiative and income-driven repayment plans. In June, U.S. District Judge Daniel Crabtree in Wichita, Kansas, described student loan forgiveness as having an "irreversible impact," in his decision to block one of the Biden administration's relief measures. For example, in February, some borrowers saw their debts reinstated under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. In a new report, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau cites, among the errors reported by student loan borrowers, "balance reinstatements," in which a loan servicer tacks a loan balance back on to one's account.

Beware of legal and tax complications for common assets such as houses and retirement funds. You can also liquidate the business, which will convert business assets into cash. Like a family business, these assets might have a lot of sentimental value but might not be easily passed down. Donating collections can be an effective way to circumvent capital-gains and estate taxes. Confront disagreements about assets like a house early on, and provide details about complex assets like a family business.

The fee turned up in September 2019, after Trump placed 25% tariffs on steel, and hasn't gone away since. Small-business owners have already been facing tariffs on billions of dollars of goods, most of them from China, implemented by Trump in 2018. So far, the tariffs in force under both White Houses have cost Americans $79 billion, the nonpartisan Tax Foundation estimated this summer. The nation's roughly 33 million small businesses employ nearly half the nation's workers and generate more than 43% of the gross domestic product, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce estimates. "Whether we like it or not, Asia is the bike manufacturing hub of the world," said Zagata, who raised prices by between 18% and 22% after the Trump tariffs took hold.

Considering that the average annual cost of homeowners insurance for a $300,000 mortgage has increased 23% to $2,230 in the last year, it makes sense why some homeowners are foregoing insurance or letting their policies lapse to save money. "The question isn't, 'Can I afford homeowners insurance?'
