A group of more than a dozen Republican lawmakers is urging a collegiate athletic conference to ban transgender women from competition after reports of a trans student competing on the s women’s volleyball team of a participating university. “Under these guidelines, it is only fair that biological males play men’s sports and biological females play women’s sports.”“Clearly, the Mountain West Conference has dropped the ball,” it continues. Up until Monday, the 2025-26 FAFSA was only available to limited groups of students in a series of beta tests that began on Oct. 1. Now, the form is open to all and the Department of Education has said it will be out of testing entirely by Nov. 22 — which puts the official launch ahead of schedule. This year, the plan was to be available to all students and contributors on or before Dec. 1. Students who submit a form during this final "expanded beta" phase before Nov. 22 will not need to submit a subsequent 2025–26 FAFSA form, the Education Department said.

CNN —After the suicide of a nonbinary student last February spurred a monthslong federal investigation, the US Department of Education found Title IX violations in an Oklahoma public school district including multiple failures to respond to notices of sexual harassment. The DOE’s Office of Civil Rights announced a resolution Wednesday with the Owasso Public School District to remedy Title IX violations linked to sexual harassment in district schools. The OCR investigation began last March, weeks after the death of nonbinary teen, Nex Benedict. The investigation also identified several other instances in the last three years when district staff failed to properly respond to sexual harassment complaints. The agreement between the DOE and the school district requires the district to implement new policies and procedures and additional training for staff and students.

A pig in Oregon has tested positive for the H5N1 bird flu virus, the Agriculture Department said Wednesday. The update comes as the H5N1 virus continues to spread rapidly among dairy cows across the country. The bird flu outbreak in dairy cows has infected 387 herds across 14 states so far, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last week, the CDC released results of a monthslong investigation that found no evidence of bird flu spreading from human to human. A supermajority of UAW members at Stellantis' Los Angeles Parts Distribution Center voted to request strike authorization from the International Executive Board if the company and union can't reconcile, the union said Friday morning. The lawsuit argues that if the union does strike, the court "should award Stellantis monetary damages" that result from a breach of contract. UAW President Shawn Fain has routinely said the union will strike if needed, however Stellantis has argued that would be unlawful under the contract. The lawsuit came the same day Fain and union members held their latest rally against Stellantis in suburban Detroit.
