At least 32 civilians were killed and 63 injured in an explosion on a popular beach in the Somali capital Mogadishu late on Friday evening, police said, an attack blamed by Somali state media on the militant Islamist group al Shabaab. There was no immediate claim of responsibility by the al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab, which has claimed similar attacks in the past, including the car bomb attack in 2022. Police spokesperson Abdifatah Aden gave the death toll in Friday evening’s explosion at a beach restaurant. In addition to the civilians killed, Aden said that one of the attackers had blown himself up while three others had been killed by security forces. Al Shabaab controlled a vast area of Somalia before being pushed back in government counteroffensives since 2022.

President Biden has committed to his second major network interview since the debate debacle that has fueled questions about his continued candidacy. The president will tape an interview with the NBC News anchor Lester Holt on Monday in Austin, Texas, the network said on Wednesday. NBC plans to air the interview “in its entirety” that evening at 9 p.m. Eastern, a similar prime-time placement as ABC’s interview with Mr. Biden that aired last Friday. Mr. Holt, who last interviewed the president in February 2022, will speak with Mr. Biden for at least 15 minutes at the LBJ Presidential Library, NBC said. In June, 51 million people tuned in to watch the much-anticipated debate between Biden and former President Donald Trump. Biden later told ABC that he “just had a really bad cold” on debate night and said he was distracted by Trump “still shouting” over his muted microphone while Biden was speaking. Last November, Dr. Bruce Aronwald, Trump’s personal physician since 2021, issued a meager, three-paragraph, data-devoid note attesting to Trump’s physical and cognitive fitness for office. While the USPSTF review is noncommittal on the use of dementia screening in ostensibly asymptomatic people, there’s no ambiguity in the use of testing in adults where dementia is a concern. There are a variety of screening exams such as the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MOCA) or Mini-Mental State Examination that are used to detect signs of cognitive decline.

The salesroom at Christie’s was packed on Tuesday evening, as spectators rubbernecked to see if buyers would compete for multimillion-dollar artworks at an auction house still hobbled by a cyberattack. Could she succeed despite the headwinds of a slumping market and concerns about whether a cyberattack might have compromised the financial data of Christie’s clientele? There were only four withdrawals ahead of the evening sales, as Christie’s salespeople worked hard to assure buyers and sellers that business would continue without a glitch. If ever a Met Gala seemed primed to clash with its political moment, it was the 2024 Met.
